@@cygnusx-3217America has had drones since world war II. Just in smaller quantities. It started all the way back then. And of course they were different types of drones, and not the ones you think of today. They literally turned giant bombers and fighter planes into drones. They would fly them remotely while trailing the drone in another plane.

That was "Operation Aphrodite". The US Navy's participation was called "Project Anvil". JFK's older brother, Joe Kennedy Jr. was the pilot chosen to fly the first Navy mission. He was flying a remotely controlled BQ-8 (converted B-24 Liberator) bomber. Kennedy and his co-pilot were at the controls during take-off. Once in the air, the bomber was intended to be flown by radio control from another plane. The target was a German fortress on the French Coast. Kennedy and his co-pilot were killed when the bomber exploded prematurely before they could bail out over England.

One of my buddies would pretend he was just playing Counter Strike when they were under fire so he wouldn't freak out under fire. The Army put out a very popular first person shooter called America's Army that "trained" players how to strip down, aim, and fire various guns issued to the Army with an achievement program where you would work up through the ranks. One of my friends who is not a "gun guy" shot really well because of all the FPS games he had played since he was a teen. He said, "It's just like playing a video game. I just put the red dot on the target." Some of the fps games are so accurate, you can apply real world shooting experience to the game with wind and other atmospheric conditions.

Actually, torpedoes are "drones". They can be guided manually or they can steer themselves toward enemy targets since WW2 (during WW1, they were "fire and forget" which meant they aimed at a ship or port and hoped they hit because they couldn't steer them after they left the sub or ship that launched them). Remote controlled aircraft and ground vehicles were used as soon as radios were invented. Remote controlled aircraft were commonly used as targets and the Germans had the Goliath remote controlled tank that would drive underneath enemy tanks and blow up where the armor was weaker.

There was a drone in ww1. Called the Kettering Bug it was an unmanned aerial torpedo. Basically a very early radio control biplane made of cardboard and wood, full of explosives. It wasn't quite ready for primetime in 1917 being mostly able to fly in a straight line, so it didn't see any use in the war. Radio as a concept was still pretty new at the time and these things were top top secret technology until ww2, because of that the military didn't really have a doctrine for how to use them by the second war so they were mostly used for target practice. The fuselage of an RCAT which was the ww2 target practice evolution of the concept washed up on the beach near me not too long ago.

@@corpusDit's a reference to their premise. V1 operated more like a cruise missile admit would take off, level flight, hit. V2 operated more as an ICBM as it launched, reached its max ordinate then dropped into a planned area of impact (obviously with mixed results).

    • @corpusD
      @corpusD 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@raymarshall6721 that is why I said the V2 was ballistic. It did not have enough range though. Intercontinental implies a very long range, ie Russia to the USA, or Cuba to Washington DC, or Turkey to Moscow (Hello Kennedy-Khrushchev). I didn’t mention the V1 buzzbomb which was really the largest number of cruise missile type used by the Germans in WW2. I saw the results of a V2 near my grandparents house in Antwerp. It was in an area with many row houses except one large cleared newer apartment complex. A V2 landed there during WWII after the Allies had taken it over. My grandparents were at the market, so they were away from the blast, and all windows and a garden wall fell down. No one heard it come in. My grandfather said they did not worry as long as they could hear the V1 buzzing. If it stopped then it was coming down.

You should tell Leah about the historic Pakt just signed last week between the US, UK Australia and by default NZ. It’s called the AUKUSA Pakt & came out of the blue as UK & Australian leaders proposed the Pakt to US Leaders in response to Putins threats agasint the UK and Australia for their increasing aid to Ukraine & stepping up the packages with more advanced offensive weapons. The Pakt states ANY attack on any soil of any of these 4 counties is an attack on all and an act of war, like a NATO agreement between our 3 countries. uK/AU leaders knew if they could get the Pakt approved & signed that Putin will NEVER attack them. When Ukraine was trying to get into NATo Putin invaded before they could to block their assention , the UK/AU we’re concerned feeling a bit vulnerable and worried he might attack so they pushed this quickly and quietly and it was signed last week so it’s official, if Putin fired a single missle into Australia ; NZ or the UK, ALL of us including the full force of the American military declare war on that nation which has just given your 3 countries the largest level of security they’ve ever had. Putin will NEVER do anything that would have America declaring war of them. They’ve suffered humiliation of still no progress in Ukraine 3 years in , he knows if they’ve been unable to defeat the tiny Ukrainian military , he’s not engaging the largest military super power on the planet , a superpower that is the defacto nation in NATO and now this Pakt so America going to war with Russia would enact Article 5 and ALL would go to war with Russia that means we’d be putting massive force numbers in Ukraine and wiping Russia out of there. The Pakt os actually a really big deal as America is sending a large number of air defense systems to these countries , additional US troops will be stationed in your countries with additional US bases being built in your countries that will be joint bases with your military. Leah can rest assured she’s safer now than New Zealander has ever been. You should tell her about this Pakt , it should help her feel safe.
Bless her heart, but she can rest assured seeing Americas weapon systems , they are the best, most advanced weapons on earth and the American Military is the greatest super power in history which is alied to New Zealand & this groundbreaking Pakt, the AUKUSA Pakt had literaly made Putin stop his threats to your counties & the US just this week announced that US weapons sent to Ukraine can now be used to strike inside Russia offensively after a number of cruise missiles were fired from inside Russia at civilian targets in Ukraine instead of what Russias been doing firing from inside ukraine. Putins threat to NATO nations and America to not give F16’s to Ukraine also just pushed us to do it quicker announcing the first wave of graduates from the F16 training of pilots and maintenance crews and the first F16’s are on their way to a Ukraine. Putin has been threatening the UK very seriously & been flying Nuclear Bombers into UK air space illegaly regularly , almsot weekly. Putin hs also threatened Australia for sending weapon systems to Ukraine , so those 2 proposed to the US this pakt to discourage Putin from attacking them. Putin now knows if he fires a single missle into the UK or Australia , it’s an act of war and the United States is now bound that we would declare war on Russia if they do this. I say this becasue Putin /Russia has been very disappointing in their military night being unable to make any progress agsisnt Ukraine thst has NO friendly forces in country , we just supply them out advanced weapons & they’ve held off Russia to the shock of the world. This is important for your daughter to know becasue Putin KNOWS in 3 years he’s been unable to defeat the much much smaller Ukraine military ,..there’s no chance he will ever start a war with America , he knows it’d be suicide , so now as of last week knowing the UK & Australia /NZ have a new Pakt , he knows he CAN NOT launch any type of aggression towards the UK or your countries or America declares war of Russia along with Australia , the UK and NZ and by default an attack on either of these countries or America would set in motion the NATO Article that says an attack on one is an attack on all which would have ALL NATO nations declare war on Russia as well. He’d have to pull out of ukraine and the west would take that opportunity to invade Russia & remove Putin & all problematic leaders from power . Putin promised his people he’d take Ukraine in 2 weeks, it’s been 3 years and no progress, he he will never attempt to take on America and all of NATO as he’d be removed from power and tried for his war crimes. Leah doesn’t hve to worry about his Nukes either, the US and Russia have an understanding called Mutual Destruction , the moment Russia launches a Nuke , our thermal satellites will detect the heat plume before it even lifts off , it & space force can then determine its trajectory & target within seconds & once confirmed it’s a nuke, Mutual Destruction promises we’d launch a larger volley of Nukes back at Russia . Russi would have started Nuclear war & America , the UK , Australia and France would launch their nukes to wipe out as many launch sites as possible , it would be the end of Russia, and potentially send us into nuclear winter , he may be agressive but he’s not stupid no one wants nuclear war with America as it’d be the end of their country , literally & possible humanity if enough were launched. The Nukes are now just kept to keep enemies from using theirs. With the new AUKUSA Pakt , the US is sending a large number of our Patriot Air Defense/Intercontinental Ballistic missile defense mobile battery’s to the UK, Australia & stationing several in NZ as a self defence and also an additional defence for Australia. The Patriot Missile batteries are connected to the US Space Force via Link 16 so they will be manned by both UK, Aussie, NZ & American soldiers but connected the USSF so that Space Force can actually fire the Patriot missiles remotely when they detect a threat. The Pakt now has as raised level of monitoring these 3 counties for air threats & the Pakt not only allows America to intercept a threat headed to either countries but also guarantees we will act. The Pakt just gave Leah, Australia, the UK and NZ essentially a guarantee Russia will not attack any of them, and Leah can rest assured, aside from that guarantee , even IF Putin ever launched something your way, the US is the largest and most advanced military in history , nothing would ever get to your soil. We spend more on military than the next 10 highest spending militaries combined, have the by far largest Air Force or nearly 20,000 jets , the largest Navy , we have 19 Air Craft carriers, 11 are Nuclear powered , the rest of the world has 6 total combined and only France is nuclear powered , we have over 600 military satelites , Russia has 11, China has 6 , these satelites monitor the planet , , 9 carrier strike groups , over 700 military babies outside of the US , the largest nuclear sub ballistic missile force in the world. You can tell Leah, she is safer now than New Zealand has ever been before.
Also no need to fear the US advanced weapons as they are ALL on New Zealand’s side and would never be used on your country as we are close Alies.
I’m a dad of 3 daughters and my 16 year old used to worry about war , specifically nuclear war becasue of movies , I explained all this to her & the lack of actual threats to the US /mainland. An invasion is impossible & our military is an average of 20 years more advanced technologically than China and 30 years ahead of Russia so there’s nothing to worry about. Leah should be able to watch the military videos as she should view all the weapons as on her side for her protection & I hope she’s able to understand how actually superior the US is to all of our enemies combined and our enemies know that .

Greetings from Texas. I love the Fat Electrician for all the reasons everyone else probably does. Just a thought for you Jono. I do applaud your and your wife's parenting style. Y'all both strike me as very great parents who definitely take an active and positive interest in both of your children's lives. There are so many other parents who have lost the plot on why responsibly raising their children should be their number one priority over everything else in their lives including their careers and personal aspirations.
However. I get it that you don't want Garon to curse or to think cursing is a good thing for him personally. But those are values I'm positive you two have already instilled in both of your children. But spoiler alert! I can all but guarantee both of you that both of your children More than likely hear the F word multiple times a day everyday when it's just them and their mates around. And the F Word is not the worst thing in the world that older kids can hear in a video or movie.
So my point is that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to just sit down with Garon and explain to him that you trust him enough to be able to watch a video, with either of you two present mind you, that contains some adult language. He's a really great kid and I'm sure he could handle that as long as you are there with him to reinforce your morals, and and social values with him. While at the same time giving him the benefit he's earned as a responsible person. To be trusted to handle some colorful language in video's and movies.
But of course it's you and your wife's call. Just putting in my two cents as a father myself of a grown daughter and a grandfather to a beautiful 18 year old granddaughter. And my many years of working as a counselor with teens and pre teens. There was not really some magical age where I felt it was just okay for them to watch anything. But I always based my decisions on each individual child's level of maturity and reasonableness in their behavior and character. Not every kid was allowed to watch rated R movie's at the same age. Nor were they exposed to anything that included bad language only after a certain age. Because maturity and understanding don't often coincide with any particular age. But that's just experience. They are both lovely and intelligent children who both seem to project intelligence and kindness. You both should be very proud.

Also consider drone pilots that were gamers are used to just killing everything on the screen. Now think how a enemy solider going to surrender to a drone. There already have been combat videos of both situations from Ukraine shown on social media. The most recent was a solider wanting to surrender and begging not to be hit and still being hit by the drone.

What do you think you are sheltering your kids from when you don't let them watch a video because someone might say some curse words ? They probably hear way worse at school.

Before the first bombers were made. They used small hand dropped bombs, that was shaped like a football, with fins. I found a 5 pounder, in a 2nd hand store. The scary was when I found out it was still, LIVE!!

The US drone program was initiated under president Bush but massively expanded under Obama. From their consoles in Nevada, US drone operators were striking people in the Middle East. Obama assured us that these people were 'terrorists' and collateral damage was low. Fortunately a whistleblower came forward and spilled the truth. In most of the strikes, the drone operator didn't even know the person he was targeting. The whistleblower also provided documents showing that 90% of the casualties from the strikes were civilian. It's known that drone operators have a high suicide rate. It turns out the murd---ing people who appear merely as blips on your computer screen is not good for your psyche.

These switchblade drones are killing women and children in Gaza. They're horrific and terrifying weapons. I saw a video of a man being hit by one of these devilish devices. His leg was instantly sliced off. He screamed in absolute horror as he bled out in the street. I will never forget that video.
