Awesome review my friend. This is the best one to date for me. I’m stuck between the Baja Boss and the AT4W for my taco and you definitely threw some eggs in both baskets with this one video.
I will attempt to settle a question you had. I believe the design around the bead is for heat dissipation. I have heard a couple of guys say that about the AT3W. Please look into that, though, I would trust that you would give me an honest answer. 😅
      Again, great review.

      Great review as always
However I believe you talked me out of this tire
I'll either strap on the MT Baja Boss AT or quickly get the atw3 before they sell out.
Based on your review I can't help but think Falken messed up here. Meaning they should market the Atw4 as a completely new tire (with a different damn name) while also working to subtlety update and improve the atw3.
I think this is a HUGE missed opportunity for them
      But what do I know

I got the AT3W's on my Jeep XJ and they been great for everything I've thrown at them. Kinda want them on my new Maverick too, especially for the (now) legendary wet traction, since in all honesty, it will spend the majority of time on roads. However, the new '4's' seams to be a worse choice for the latter... It's a pretty light truck and like said, mostly on-road, so the changes isn't looking good!

Absolutely great for our Wyoming weather and commuting (She doesn’t off road or overland in hers). I ran General Grabbers for 5 yrs on my Titan and had almost 50k on them (on/off road) and we’re still holding a good tread. Now I’m shopping for my RAM 2500 and may just have to give these A/T4w’s a shot. The pros to running a diesel 3/4 ton is the tires will have almost no effect on my mpg. Thanks Nate.

I just picked up a set in this exact size because it is the only good AT available in that size. Coming from 285/75r16 KO2s and my immediate impression is they are a lot quieter and smoother on the road. Less resistance when I turn the wheel too. Good review , I will have to see how many sizes my wholesaler has in stock right now. Well, looks like quite a few in stock! I am running a 255/80R17 on my dually and my current set is Toyo R/T trail and they aren't bad. Not great on ice, but can't say that I have found anything without studs that is. You are correct on this being a fairly heavy tire. It is the second heaviest in this size lagging behind the BFG KT commercial tire that weighs 58.77, Ridge Grappler 54.96, Toyo A/TIII 52.70, Cooper ST Max 57.0, Toyo R/T Trail 51.70 and the Falken A/T4W is 58.10 and the Falken A/T3W is 52.50. My wholesale cost is about 13.00 more for the A/T4W compared to the 3W and about the same price as the Toyo A/TIII. I might have to consider this tire for my second set of wheels. The stock 235/80R17 Michelin AS are pretty wimpy and pretty worthless off of the pavement.

Maybe not even 30k miles. Now there's still good tread on them but this content along with the fact I have really liked the Falkens I had installed on my wife's Subaru, gives me good reasons to change it up on my diesel truck.

I was on a fence after reading a few comments about how heavy it feels and losing mpg that won't buy them again, etc. But after riding AT4w(285/70/17) for a little over a month, I love these as much as my previous AT3w's. AT4w is about 2.5LBS heavier per tire but didn't feel heavier at all and drove as good as before, if not better. In fact I get about 8 to 10 more miles out of a full tank(3 fill ups so far). This is only in dry and wet condition so far but can't wait to test them out in the snow next winter. I have a 2023 Rav4 xse hybrid for commuting but I've been on my gas hungry lifted Tacoma for a month since it's fun to drive again with these new sets of tires. I will switch crappy and dangerous when wet oem tires on Rav4 to these when time comes.

I keep trying to explain to people that even though the siping is a tiny bit less snow aggressive it is still a VERY great snow tire... I think people are just in shock that, THAT was one of the things Falken took a tiny step back from... but the truth was it was so strong in snow it compromised other things and they trie to make a more balanced tire... I am going to run them on one of my trucks for sure... great tire.

I got my Lt275/70r18 Toyo AT3's 4 years ago and have 50,000 miles on them. I still have 7/32nds on them and they still have the sipes. They have been great. They are starting to slip a little bit while turning on to roads from a stop in the rain. Easily manageable with a light foot. The OEM Goodyear's they replaced had half the miles and were downright dangerous in the rain.
I've narrowed my next set down to these two or MT BajaBoss A/T.

Great review. You stated that the AT3W was "almost leading the pack" for wet road and ice traction. Those two attributes are important to me in the PNW. Can you tell us who the wet road / ice leader is in the AT segment? I usually switch to a true winter tire in deep winter, but for safety wet road traction is key, and ice/packed snow traction is important for the "shoulder seasons" (or if you don't get around to switching to winter tires).

    • @OutdoorAuto
      @OutdoorAuto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

to get better traction then the At3w in wet you have to branch into the super specialist stuff like Nokians... and even though they make "AT" tires... I don't really consider them that... as I would never off-road any of them... they aren't tough enough for the really rough rock and stuff.... but they are better in ran and snow.

Great review! I was going to try the AT3 on my 5th gen 4Runner, but went with the Goodyear Wrangler Ultra Terrain AT instead. Just an absolutely amazing tire! The absolute best AT tire I have ran on packed snow and ice, in the sand, on the rocks, and on the street. It does it all while wearing like iron. Loved it so much that I put another set on my Tundra and they again are amazing.
I was tempted to try the new AT4, but here in the Northwest, snow, ice, and wet traction is king, and Falken decided to market to heavier trucks in the South. The AT3 was THE tire in the Tacoma and 4Runner community. Sad to see it go. But seems there are a lot of great choices out there.

I had these installed last Friday on my '97 4Runner. I was coming from $90 Costco tires. By comparison these are like riding on a cloud and the grip in the rain is incredible. Here in California it's been flood conditions. I feel a lot safer on these vs. my old A/T car tires. The amount of power these sap from my little engine is comical. The 3rd gen was already quite slow, and now it's a challenge to accelerate onto the freeway and it doesn't like going over 70-75--too much rolling resistance. I'm glad I got them because they are awesome but it's something to think about.

These are hands down the best AT's on the market. I have them on all of our vehicles that see hard use here in the mountains in snow, mud, fields, creek crossings, climbing rock service roads and more. We've never had a stuck vehicle or issues with flats and punctured sidewalls like other brands are notorious for. Go heavy on the and get a size with the 3-ply sidewall rating.

I live in the PNW so when shopping for a new AT for my 4Runner I got the AT3Ws BECAUSE of their market lead in Wet and Ice since that is what I experience mostly here. Immediately loved them after moving on from my (slippery for here) Nitto Terra Grapplers. 18k miles on and still love them. When it comes time to replace them I'll probably go with the AT4Ws but will also likeky shop the market to see what tire is the best in wet and hard packed snow/ice conditions. Interestingly, the 275/70/R17 I run only increased 1 lb from the AT3Ws to AT4Ws, while also decreasing 0.2" in Diameter.

Starting to shop for tires, looks like the AT4W is going to be the clear choice for me. This is my second set of AT3Ws that i've gotten 70k out of (yes I do quite a bit of driving), at this point its going to be pretty difficult to sell me something other than a AT4W or AT3W. For a factory Ram size, 275/70r18 I have found the AT4W already to be performing even better than the last set of AT3Ws. Theyre lighter in my size and handle even better in the rain.
