"Stairway to Heaven" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in late 1971. It was composed by the band's guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant for their untitled fourth studio album (often titled Led Zeppelin IV). The song is widely regarded as one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

It’s actually not by them it’s originally from a homeless hippie guy in the 60’s or 70’s who was living in the bay of California at the time. Led Zeppelin had heard him play it and used or stole it from him and now everyone knows the song, and the dude who made it wasn’t mad when he heard they had made his song and turned it onto the whole world so he was happy that it did become famous and there’s the real story for all y’all who don’t know.

Having watched their Glastonbury set on the BBC a number of years back, my friend and I ordered tickets (while high as kites) to see them at the Barrowlands in Glasgow. One of the best gigs I've been privileged to attend.

I remember the first time I ever heard this. I was (and still am) a big Led Zeppelin fan. I always got Classic Rock magazine (UK) and they always had free CD with the issue with various tracks. One was a special Led Zeppelin edition and it had a CD with bands from all over the world doing Led Zeppelin covers and this one was one of the last tracks. Hard to believe must be almost 20 years ago now. It says 2006 on the track.. I could have sworn it was maybe even a year or two earlier I got the magazine. Possibly it was included on the demo CD early or something.
This is so perfect, SWTH is a fabulous song but it's been played to death so no one ever wants to hear it again, unless this.
I will never ever, not want to hear the original. It is beautiful. You must understand that no one musician, not one band, can ever touch this song the way Led Zeppelin performed it in the studio at the time of recording. The mysticism and magic that the words alone summon out, take me, as it did over 40 years ago, some place else. A place in between all things. Yeah, kinda weird, but true.
This interpretation though, is by far one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard. 🏰🔮🔭🛌💫
