Hey dude, i really like your videos. I'm starting in this hobby, I just bought the paint +tool set to start, I was thinking in painting the space marine red instead of blue. Can I do that with the paint included? Thanks and keep up with the good content.
@@alejandrocastro5613 Hi, thanks for the feedback :) The Citadel 40K Starter Paint Set? If so Mephiston Red is included so yeah, you have all the basics there to paint Blood Angels!
You could not even worry about angling by using blood angels red contrast through the air brush. It also can give you natural shading into recesses at the same time
@@TallManMinis interesting, I didn't think they fit anything other then intercessors Thankyou, you seem quite experienced in air brushing, have you thought about doing a video on tips and techniques on that? looking forward to other BA painting videos 👍

@TallManMinis any advice on what pressure to use with the varnish? I have the Vallejo one you recommended as I'd like to try pin washing my Blood Angels. Do you normally thin the varnish down or put any flow improver in?
In this video I used blue-tac to cover the helmets. However I have just discovered Silly Putty! It's much more malleable, conforms to a shape easier and is much more reusable! I have tried Vallejo liquid mask on helmets but it's very difficult to remove if it gets into any seams or is left too long.
It depends on what stage you are using the varnish. I usually give a mini a gloss varnish near the start, to protect the base colour, and help wipe away mistakes. This usually takes about 3 hours to cure into a hard shell so it can withstand friction and not wipe away. For a final varnish when it is complete, matte or gloss, you can apply multiple layers once it is touch dry, but to cure them fully and protect the mini it is best to leave it overnight.
@TallManMinis i just bought vallejo polyutherane varnish and it says on the bottle that drying time between layers should be 24 hours. Do you really think it needs to be so long? Doing 2 coats of gloss before trying the oil wash will take forever:/
@@SinglemSolis Oh, when applying it for the oil wash, I don't think so. I usually wait until it is touch dry when spraying on a 2 light layers (because trying to spray on 1 full coat evenly can lead to it pooling and dripping). But before I apply the oil wash, I usually leave the varnish to sure for 3 hours. The longer you leave it the harder a shell it will create and it will be fully dry in all the tight crevice's. But if you apply the oil delicately into the armour like I do and don't rely on wiping it off, you will be fine. Only time I leave varnish to cure for 24hrs is when it is completely finished. That helps protect them being handled and dropped etc.
@@SinglemSolis Also, i tended to paint in batches, so waiting for a few hours between varnish drying wasn't an issue. If you have a couple of squads to paint, while waiting for varnish to dry you can start on another squad. Once they reach the varnish stage, you can swap back to the first group etc. or use the time to stretch and get some fresh air, my back loves me when I do that lol :)

Great Blood Angels guide, thank you! I'm considering an airbrush and was wondering what you do for ventilation/safety (mask?) when airbrushing? Do you have a dedicated ventilated space for airbrushing? Noticed the gloves and you mentioned a few things when doing the oil wash, so thought I'd ask.
Thank you for the feedback! I use a 3M A3P3R re-useable respirator mask, the kind used for spraying cars etc. The paint isn't toxic but you don't want to be breathing in the particles over a long period of time, so it's best to be safe. I'll link to it on Amazon below, but you may get it cheaper elsewhere. I dont have a dedicated space but I make sure I spray next to an open window and have a fan to disperse and direct the particles out the window. I do have a spray booth but it's a pain to setup sometimes and I use it more in Winter time when keeping windows open isn't ideal.
