In the Routine Feat, there are several phrases in Russian you can read on the walls - "money isn't everything", "your dreams will come true", - which only further support the hopeful reading of the game's purpose. And serve as an everyday reminder for the person making it, probably.
I genuinely really appreciate these videos as they bring a spotlight to those games that are lesser known but are hidden gems that are overlooked. Amongst this series and your Love Letter series, to Monsters of the Week, and your videos in general, they're all thoroughly enjoyable ! Looking forward to this video and keep up the amazing work Ragnar !
I discovered your work when I was still unemployed. Trudging through re-learning excel, attending career counseling classes in a self-hating fear based daze. I felt so inspired and even though I don't make video games (visual artist here) I got a little spark back. Thanks!
« Hey today I’m presenting relaxing and chill games » « First one is about being a poor underpaid worker, lost in a megalopolis and oh he is literally cursed and a floating skull head is constantly screaming at him for no apparent reason » Yeah this looks like a grade A ASMR gaming experience to me 😎👌🏻
I think Its relaxing because there isnt like a clear objetive you just play and Also there isnt like something you have to care of you cant die for example
New video, YEEEY!!! "Turning hobbies into professional responsability...." - oooown, thank you so much for doing it, tho. This is such a great way to discover new stories, games and content! I love how you go through each point with such patience and admiration, it's really insipiring. ps: have i ever said that your voice is incredibly soothing and calming?
I loved the Haunted Island. The characters are hilarious in such an earnest way, there’s not a trace of sarcasm or edginess in it’s humour. I’m going to check out Bird of Passage.
Oh holy shit. I played It's Winter a few months ago and fell in love with it completely. I didn't realize the creator had made a summer complement to it with Routine Feat.
The way he smiles when he talks about playing indie games at the beginning is just so heart-warming. It makes me, as the viewer, happy, and I enjoy the videos even more.
Love this video ! Super under rated - I feel like I never get enough relaxing / simulation game but people usually cycle through the same harvest moon, stardew, rune factory, etc. These are amazing takes on the genre! Thank you for the reccs
This guy hits every one of my buttons when it comes to TH-cam content and I feel like I've watched his videos more times than some of my favorite films...
A flying disembodied skull screaming in your face isn't exactly what I'd call "relaxing". One game always comes to mind when talking about these types of games, The Stanley Parable. It's a perfect mix of mystery, comedy and existential dread. This is a neat idea for a series, especially with the seperate themes for each episode. Keep 'em coming!
" A flying disembodied skull screaming in your face isn't exactly what I'd call "relaxing"." You missed the point, it's when you accept your fate it becomes relaxing.
There is so much more about the way you show this games and projects, like a good old story with some great hidden meaning and atmosphere. You are doing a great job! And the games you show are fantastic in their own special way, so glad I found this channel!
Thanks for these videos. Your stuff always introduces me to new, awesome works of art which, even though I'm not really satisfied playing video games anymore, I still love watching and learning about them. The games you pick and the way you explain them along with your touches of video editing are very mesmerizing. Even if I'm not playing these games, I still feel like I'm gaining something, even from just the telling of their existence. And it's always nice to know that handfuls of people are making games out of passion, and not catering to mass appeal. So again, thanks for doing the research and work to bring these stories to us.
One of my favorite series of horror indie games is Hello Charlotte, made by someone named etherane. I would describe their games as being heavily influenced by psychology and philosophy, as Hello Charlotte is all about an innocent young girl named Charlotte as she wanders the world. And then it just gets more and more confusing. I don’t know why this game rings with me so much but I believe I connected to the idea that we all perceive the world differently. And the characters we made might be more real than we thought they were. It makes the game literally feel alive. Very chilling to play at some points.
I think I’ve watched this video about 3 times now. Any time I feel drained from work I start up this video, your calming voice and the games you chose make me feel better.
This was an absolutely fantastic video! There’s so many interesting indy games out there. Veritable hidden gems. Thank you for bringing this to us. I like your style! Will be visiting your channel more often. 😉 Stay safe.
I feel like lately I'm becoming more and more endeared to your style of video making- not that I wasn't to begin with but now they're really so genuinely earnest and funny whilst also being educational and oddly soothing. Really great work and I can't wait to see what you come out w next!! 👻👻👻
Spaceport janitor hooked me in really well. I dove in head first and i took note of your issues in your playthrough and i ended up beating it in 8 hours.
dude, first time I actually get to see you and I'd love your physical persona to be a protagonist in a new Silent Hill game. Your looks scream Silent Hill all over the place
Loving this series. Also loving how you end your videos, blending the supporters into the game you just talked about... it's so damn good! I always wonder: How is he going to do it this time? when I start watching one of your videos. So nice. Yeah. Just wanted to say that.
Knew 2 out of the 4 so I have some street cred I guess. The ending to Spaceport is here on youtube if you're interested in that kind of fun. The dev for Frog Detective did a talk for GDC that was posted to youtube too. Both are interesting.
thank you for this ragnarrox, I love all your videos. the themes of these games are things I've been thinking a lot about lately, watching this video feels like having a conversation with a close friend.
Diaries of Spaceport Janitor is one of my favourite games (next to Night in the Woods, GNOG, and some others). I often end up standing next to a bunch of aliens playing musical instruments and get hypnotized xD
I made the mistake of taking an accelerated accounting class this summer to finally be able to top off my requirements and get my degree. Always a fan, and always keeping your channel on my playlist for background as I continued to get swept up in a wave of Credits and Debits, this video hit me at just the right chain-smoking, stressed-out moment. Thank you so much for your content as always and using your notoriety to get the word out about indie developers. I was able to set the thrilling world of financial statements down for a bit and play the fantastic Frog Detective game, I donated and I hope that this evolves into a franchise. It gave me a brief respite from a summer mostly spent toiling away to wrap up my degree and working, Thank you for the work you do on your channel to produce such unique content, your skills at touching on such a diverse array of topics in video games as well as your fantastic writing have made sure that anytime I play one of your videos during schoolwork, it doesn't stay background noise for long.
20:14 “You can choose to accept your fate...” As you stand on the edge of a building looking down... Maybe it’s the depression talking, but I don’t feel like that was intentional.
That skull keeping up the scream in yo face routine left me puzzled concerning wether I found it hilarious or frightening and I didn't know anymore what I felt after letting out several initial laughs... I think I laughed because of the editing and timing within the video but quickly realizing that in the context of playing this game, it would make me feel ways I cannot describe in words. Love it!
Hey man. I feel like we're cut from the same cloth esp the types of games that interest you. I really appreciate all of your work and can't wait to watch your next video! ❤️❤️🖤🖤
Spaceport Janitor and Frog Detective would be fantastic switch games. I find handheld games really comforting, maybe because of all those childhood nights under my blankets playing pokemon gold with a flashlight. Those two games have the perfect asthetic for a handheld.
Wow, this video alone made me reflect, and I got curious about Routine Feat which also led me to another game called Northbound and although you didn't directly mention Northbound I still give you credit for finding me it (it seems similar to Routine Feat in a way so if anyone is interested go check it out). Thank you so much I'm downloading them both right now and can't wait to play them I needed new and relaxing, reflecting games. Have a nice day and thanks again >.< Oh and forgot to mention you have a very relaxing voice Edit: Ok that Northbound game was fun until it wasn't, ended pretty depressing tbh
Also, this channel stands firmly in the "you absolutely have to turn off adblock while watching" category. And leave comments for the algorithms. Can't patreon, but gotta help out in the small ways available to me.
I love this series your doing! I've played all the indies you've recommended, especially loved the horror episode. Looking forward for future indie titles and genre themes you will recommend :)
Bird of Passage reminds me a lot of Three Fourths Home, which is a dialogue puzzle VN-type game where you're a girl driving home in a rainstorm, and you're on the phone with your mother.
In the Routine Feat, there are several phrases in Russian you can read on the walls - "money isn't everything", "your dreams will come true", - which only further support the hopeful reading of the game's purpose. And serve as an everyday reminder for the person making it, probably.

Me too. The indie scene is a great place to find new concepts in an industry that's feels like it's been stagnating lately.
Loved the Boris part! HAHAHAHAHA
Good list, Rag
Ih a lá, vc por aqui
Is it me or ragnar Rox looks like he still lives in 2000 and shops at hot topic
What year is it again?
Ye Neon Traveller, he's going for a classic style since the 70s/80s
That's because he's a vampire.
Pretty sure he's got eyeshadow on.
Dudes wearing makeup for sure
I never thought I'd love this series so much! As an aspiring indie game dev I hope my work will be on here one day
I wish you all the best with your future game projects!
Your work is underrated and honestly deserves so much more attention!
I like how your captions refer to the skull as Shaun.
I discovered your work when I was still unemployed. Trudging through re-learning excel, attending career counseling classes in a self-hating fear based daze. I felt so inspired and even though I don't make video games (visual artist here) I got a little spark back. Thanks!
Hearing Boris' voice made me lose it. Love the work you're doing here. ♥
ACAB bit legitimately made me snort tea out of my nose, good job
Routine Feat sounds like my dream life. Owning a house, stable job, food that magically appear in the fridge, free time to pursue hobby writing.

Really loving these kinds of videos. When I’m not playing video games or watching videos I’m browsing Steam to look for indie games.
11:43 I like how when he said about accepting the curse, the skull is now Shaun in the subtitle.
Diary of a Space Port Janitor was one of my fav games I played last year, this might be the first time I'm seeing someone mention it on yt.
New video, YEEEY!!!

I was just thinking yesterday about the first entry in this series. Keep em up! We live for these gems.
Ok Lobster Cop being unavailable is the funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life

You know you're at the right place when there is a Camus quote casually thrown into the video.
I always get hyped up when I see a new upload from you! You're the best dude, keep it up.

Man discovered your channel hours ago and I’m loving it and all thanks to Silent Hill
Please do keep this series up. Some amazing content, Ragnar 👍🏻
thank you for recommending East Shade Ragnar, it was so surprising how good it is.
You truly have neck to find hidden gems of games

I love this games from underground so much
Awesome video, I might have to check some of these out.
Yes, RIP Rutger Hauer!
I have the strong urge to check EVERY SINGLE reference in your description
You always get me with your sophisticated words and poetic like conclusions. I'm considering these games now thanks to you
Diaries of Spaceport Janitor is one of my favourite games (next to Night in the Woods, GNOG, and some others). I often end up standing next to a bunch of aliens playing musical instruments and get hypnotized xD
So many criminally underrated stuff here
Ragnar: Relaxing games
Games: are literally all about accepting futility and lack of purpose
except for frog detective. thats just wholesome
Love your videos! I love horror but I'll always have a soft spot for wholesome things.
These videos themselves are so relaxing and you are an awesome speaker

Equilinox is the best game of this genre, so relaxing and calm.
Rutine Feat’ s graphics look soo charming, would love to see more of that art style in old school RPG games homages
Lovely list. Much needed. Gracias Ragnar.
Feeding the algorithm and also stopping in to say I adore your videos. You're so darnedably soothing to listen to.
The Boris part was an unexpected delight.

Gotta comment because TH-cam demands it, your channel is a hidden gem of TH-cam itself.
I love these introspective videos about life and other things
I love this series so much. I am excited to play birds of passage now
Also Umurangi needs some loving too, a lovely photography simulator. :) love the vids

Helge Schneider in a RagnarRox video... I can die now XD
Love this series! Keep it up!
[Shaun screaming]
Oh myyyyyy that second game is totally like my childhood!!! Thanks for sharing this games. Please make a new episode in the future
I will!
I did not expect Freckle in this vid! I love your references
Love the Camus paraphrase at 11:25!
I wasn’t expecting an appearance by Aunt Freckle, but I’m by no means disappointed ! Another great video Ragnar 😄

I adore this series keep up the good work
In my eyes we need to learn to see the everyday magic of live we experienced as a child so we can get thought life with joy ❤️
This is simply, very simply, splendid.
The second game is making me really nostalgic for my childhood
Games to Chill and Relax To
Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor is one of my favorite games, and you pretty much nailed exactly why lol
It is _so good_
I've been waiting for this !!! ❤️
please continue this series.
These are the greatest patreon end-credits ever.
I always have cc on and "Shaun screams" is an excellent joke to hide right before the Hello Everyone afterwards :P
Ragna looking like one of the NPC from Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines 😂 I'm loving it!!!
Amazing stuff, thank you lots Ragnar
When you started with the fake Russian accent then suddenly Boris happened, that got me so good. Wonderful work!
he looks like one of the people dancing at the abyss in vtmb
in other words im in love
Bird of Passage reminds me a lot of Three Fourths Home, which is a dialogue puzzle VN-type game where you're a girl driving home in a rainstorm, and you're on the phone with your mother.
Love this channel, my guy!
Excelent video, good mood, loved your voice and your style.
Omg a New video!!! My day just got better :D
