My Parents Canceled My Engagement Party For My Sister’s Breakup. Now I’m Refusing To Let Them Be Part Of My Wedding Until They Apologize.

Two weeks ago, my boyfriend of 5 years Caleb, 27M, proposed to me, 27F, and I said yes. When we told our families about it, they were obviously overjoyed, and my parents told me that they were going to throw an engagement party for us. But a few days ago, they just cancelled the party without even consulting me first because my sister, Penelope, 25F, was going through a breakup. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have had any issues paying for my own engagement party and hosting it myself, but my parents had promised something to me and they ended up not delivering on those promises and that's why I was upset. If they had at least spoken to me before cancelling everything, I would have been more understanding, but what they did was just weird. They just called me up and informed me that Penelope and her boyfriend had broken up a day before my parents had decided that it would be best to avoid even talking about the wedding in front of her until she was in a relationship again because she was pretty much devastated.

It’s not fair for your parents to prioritize your sister’s feelings over your significant milestone. Your happiness matters just as much! ❤✨
I have a very strong feeling that she told us only half of the story and that some crucial information is missing.
It wasn't for you to fix things between your father and aunt.
Your feelings are valid, but maybe it’s worth considering how this affects your sister too. Breakups are hard, and perhaps your parents were trying to keep the peace? 🥴
Tbh, I can see both sides here, but still…
