What Perry is doing at 3:08 is heavenly majestic. He is harmonizing. At that point he is in another stratosphere.
Years ago I played that part for a friend and asked him what that sound was, he had no clue. He thought it was for sure a keyboard type sound for how long it went on when I told him it was Steve doing that with his voice, it floored him.

Steve Perry in all his glory with journey a band that recently was inducted into the Hall of fame.... My mom love this band when I was a girl in the eighties... and years later when I was in my thirties and went back to college and was in medical school I went to live in North Dakota where I found a large obsession for Journey... hell they even have Journey cover bands! But this is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Funny thing, some what like the Twins, I saw this video on MTV about 40 years ago for my 1st time and immediately fell in love with Steve Perry's Voice...and that white outfit sure piqued my 13 yr old interest. It was Journey's very 1st video to air on MTV. I'd watch for hours just waiting for them to show it again. Thank goodness for TH-cam and the internet!
Stone in Love is my personal favorite Journey song, (followed closely by -Separate Ways, and as far as vocals go -Faithfully but y'all already done those two)

Most people only hearing this song on the radio or record didn't realize that was his voice. Thought it was a second instrument. Several of my friends saw the video and it blew their minds when they saw it was Steve Perry.
yeah, that is Steve's real voice...I call it "the electronic dolphin". he uses his second set of vocal chords for this!! What a talented singer...and has passion!!

Steve Perry was definitely one of the most soulful white singers of the Rock 70s/80s. There are so many white vocalists who shoot for that but keep coming up short, whereas with Steve, it seemed almost effortless. Having Neal Schon on guitar definitely helped things, too.

Journey’s Lights, slower than most, but is great: Perry’s voice as always kills it and there’s a good guitar solo - such a San Francisco song. Another great is I’ll Be Alright Without You
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' as well. Trivia: "Lights" originally went: "And the sun shines on LA," until Steve got invited to join the band in SF, and he changed the lyric.
@@rollomaughfling380 Very true and thankfully it was changed because Bay works so much better than LA says this native of SF :) it was our love song about our city. Every Giants game ending with Tony Bennett and then Journey; perfection.

Chris Sarina Neal Schon was hanging around Santana during the Abraxas album but appear on a studio album until Santana III
Neal was only 16 at the time he started with Santana.

Smoked some pot we got from a guy in the parking lot of the coliseum before a Journey concert in Portland, OR, don't know what was in it but this is the only song I remember from the concert

My mom took me to see Journey when I was 6 back in 1978 when they were on this Infinity tour. My first concert and I was so obsessed with this song. They were fantastic of course! Robert Palmer was the opening act.

This banz is my FAVORITE, FAVORITE band. The lead singer, Steve Perry has the best rock voice. This bans was on everyone's radio from 1978 to 1990. They have a ballad titled Faithfully in the 80's & it was played at almost every wedding. They are a great band.

I'm pretty sure that is the audio from the record layered over what looks like concert footage. Journey played an open air concert in my city back when I was in high school in the mid '80's. My buddies and I parked outside the venue and listened to most of the show before leaving to visit some girls we knew. "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" was always a favorite with hormone addled teenagers back then.
