Nice video. Keep in mind that you can also have a small overlay of the second screen, some games like Pokemon may benefit from that and avoid screen switching.
Contra and other games require you to stack the screens. Drastic allows you to custom restive and move your screens. So I set contra to a vertical stacked configuration. Works great.
I tried to use the Desmume with and without retroarch for Pokemon games on DS and it did not work at all or with unplayable framerate, I tried Drastic with the settings you suggest and it works just fine, thank you so much for your little guide it's so helpful !

I'm really happy with how these DS games turned out. I've really only scratched the surface. There are a lot of options on DraStic, I have a feeling that my Metroid controls aren't properly mapped. It's good to hear that someone mapped them to buttons, I'll see if I can do the same!

It's one of the games I want to play the most in this kind of systems.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are both fully playable on the Retroid Pocket 2, as well as the RG351P. You just need to download a patch that enables movement with the d-pad. They also map other commands like rolling, dashing, and attacking to the face buttons. It's fairly easy to search for.
How do you get the ROMs on Drastic? I have them downloaded, I have Drastic downloaded on the Android side, but the app can't seem to find the ROM files anywhere.

For zelda, spirit tracks there's a shame there isn't a way to have a larger radius styled setup like gemetry wars does so link would move with the right stick or something.

Hi, I am having a heck of a time setting up the controller for Drastic on RP2. Are you using the Generic Keypad or did you configure one of the other available unmapped controllers? When i try to set the special key setting for the controller i can set the swap key for R2 but I cannot exit the screen...I do not want to set up the other special keys.Trying to go to mouse mode exits the game. any help?
Mine is set to "Playstation3" as its external controller. Under "Map Special" I did as you did -- I would turn off mouse mode, press the button I wanted to assign, and re-enter mouse mode and press "skip" for the buttons I didn't want assigned. That's strange that it's crashing on you, maybe try assigning it to PS3 and see if that helps?
I don't know if anybody has said this yet but for the Zelda games you can find d-pad patched ROMs that'll allow you to play it essentially like any other Zelda

I wish someone would just make a modern ds console. The 3DS is still being sold by Nintendo (as far as I know) which means you probably can't make a 3DS. But Nintendo definitely doesn't sell the DS anymore and you could probably just make some knockoff version. Maybe you can make a DS that can also play switch games or something and make it a little different from the actual DS so Nintendo doesn't sue you for patent infringement or something
It trolls the absolute shit out of me that you routinely prefer to play games stretched across the display at non-integer scales. These games probably look super sharp and crisp at 2x scale on the Retroid Pocket 2's 480p screen but no one is gonna find that out because absolutely no one plays them like this. If I've learned one thing from watching a ton of people play Retroid Pocket 2, it's that the entire community is full of monsters. Thanks for all the info

Yeah I think this is independent of those servers...DraStic just doesn't have that capability. I mean, RetroArch can host its own relay servers to enable multiplayer for classic consoles, so I think it's in the realm of possible without having to rely on Nintendo to host the connection.
For Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, are the circles you have to draw to defeat the bosses doable? I feel like I remember them requiring you to be pretty fast. But I would love to play that again once I get my Retroid!
I have a video coming out tomorrow addressing this very thing! Long story short, there is an easy way to patch a mod on this game that allows you to bypass the seal drawing mechanic. Takes just a couple minutes.
I'm sure they sent out review copies to influencers, most companies within all spheres do that today. It's the 21st century version of buying advertising. I would hope that the company (and any company, really), doesn't have conditions attached to these review copies. I can assure you that I paid (and waited...and waited...) for my RP2 just like everyone else.

It's kind of a toss up between the two, but I am considering doing a full video comparison once I have more time with the RP2. Hands down the button/d-pad experience is better on the RG350, and while neither are pick-up-and-play out of the box, I think the RG350 is a little simpler of an interface. But if DS and N64 are important to you, RP2 is really the only viable option.
to play zelda games try using cheats besause when i played on my m3 i zero on DS y had a cheat on the database on phantom hourglass and also on spirit tracks that allous to control link without touch screen. Enjoy!!!
Yeah, it's really night and day. I have a 2DS XL, which is the same resolution as the 3DS XL. It's not bad (400x240), but when you have the high-resolution setting on the RP2 it feels like a totally different game - more like a mini Gamecube game than a DS game.
2d games won’t look any better at higher resolutions because 3D models are just a bunch of points connected by polygons, so you can always increase the resolution you draw the polygons at, 2D games use sprites drawn at a fixed resolution usually designed with the systems limitations in mind, so you won’t get any more detail by upscaling 👍
My control mapping is persistent. Maybe try booting up the app and go immediately into "change options", re-map the controls, the back out until you get back to the main menu, and select "exit DraStic". Perhaps that will force a configuration save upon exit.
Yes, this emulator actually has an option to show both screens at once. But they're tiny on this small screen -- not really worth it to me. Luckily I can always just play this on my old DS :)
So I’m considering buying this app but I’m a pretty big newb to android and the retroid. Could I just drag the ds games into the ds folder and the app would be able to find them?
you have to add the games yourself. Take the micro sd card out of the device from the bottom, insert it into your pc using a micro sd card adapter, inside you'll find multiple folders with names of various game devices. Simply insert the roms into their respective folders, remove the sd card when you're done, slam that bad boy back into the device and it should work.
People don’t buy this product unless you don’t mind waiting entirety. It’s been a total of 2 months since I ordered and they still haven’t even shipped it.
I'll stick to my hacked 3DS, it already runs ds, gba, snes, genesis and 3DS games. I also got ps1 games running on it so the retroid does not seem to do anything different for me.

Hi, I did test Okamiden and it worked okay. The performance was fine, but I found it difficult to execute some of the drawing mini-game features.

All of the Pokemon games I've tried have worked fine! As long as the system is supported, the games will play.

You will have to navigate to where the DS files are on your SD card, and then the app will remember them after that.
