    I adopted a blind cat who also was found with an eye infection. His eyes were taken at 2 months old. He has taught me not to take life so serious and even though you have a disability stay positive. He's my hero!

      As someone with multiple disabilities, I reserve the right to not be positive about them. I have accepted them because I don’t have a choice.

      @@NurseChapel_NCC1701 If that helps you cope, then that’s great. But not everyone gets superpowers. My disabilities don’t have upsides. They just suck-and that’s fine. I’m going to acknowledge them for what they are. I’m not going to be positive about something that isn’t positive. I celebrate the good days, and I try not to dwell on the bad. However, basic functioning is something I _aspire_ to. So I really wish people would have a little more tact. (That last sentence is my third draft. I’m trying to be nice, because people mean well. It’s just infuriating.)

      My cat went blind and we didn’t even notice, til I moved rooms and he had to learn the lay of the land. It was a tough adjustment. He ran into things and almost stepped off the top perch on the cat tree, cause he was used to a shelf being there. It was a stressful month, but he was soon doing daring leaps from that perch to the bed again, at 18! He passed away a month and a half ago, at 19 1/2. Best friend ever! I was so fortunate to be able to care for him in his last months. Don’t be afraid of losing an old or sick pet. It’s a time to show your love and become even closer. Oh wow ... he is simply AMAZING. I am a disabled person and I sometimes think I should take a leaf out of how animals cope with disabilities. Animals are not as invested in their disabilities as people are. They are like: "Oh ... okay ... that bit of me doesn't work ... moving on!" Two have no physical disabilities, one was born with dwarfism, essentially born blind, the fourth was rescued from the streets by a local law enforcement officer. He had a sever upper respiratory infection and both eyes infected. One eye had be be surgically removed, the other is badly scared but allows him to see a little bit. When I saw him at the shelter, I told the officer that my daughter was going to want him. The next day she adopted him. We thought we were helping him, we didn’t know we needed him. Normally I cry when I see these vids about disabled pets finding their perfect home, but this kitty is a master of adaptation and I'm just so happy for him! Cats are so well suited to a life without sight. Their super hearing and super smell and super spacial awareness and super fast and precise footwork make it so that they can function extremely well without their eyes where we would struggle. This is so incredible. Neuroplasticity is a hell of a drug!

    • @brago900
      @brago900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      The biggest advantage that sight has in a cat is knowing that they can hunt down their prey. If it is very close they see it badly and if it is very far they also see it badly but if they are able to see it well it means that they have lunch in sight.
      A domestic cat does not need to be able to do that and likewise nothing in the house is going to be at an adequate distance for the cat to see it well so in those circumstances having or not seeing it will not make much of a difference for them.
      This cannot even be compared to the loss of vision in a human as humans are entirely dependent on sight, it is no coincidence that human eyesight is one of the best in the animal kingdom.

      Fun fact: Cats' whiskers are so sensitive they can sense small changes in air pressure. They don't always need to see or hear you move, because they can FEEL the air moving when you move. Blind cats will use that in combination with their hearing to sense precise motion nearby to hunt/play.

Being a kitten he used to tear around the lounge room so just for fun I’d put a cardboard box in the way and watch him run into it. It was funny and certainly not cruel as it wasn’t hurt in any way. The kitten actually knew it was part of a game and kept on doing it and learned to find out where the box was moved to and avoided it nearly every time. It was amazing how smart it was and it loved playing that game.

    Thank you for loving your blind cat, it's amazing how well adapted he becomes with time.
    This gives me confidence, that blindness in a cat doesn't mean sitting still all of the time.

    I love this! You are such good people! We rescued a puppy that was born with a deformity and her 4th leg never fully developed so she can't walk on it. She was 6 months old and the people that had her were going to surrender her to the animal shelter. I couldn't let that happen in case no one adopted her. We opened our hearts and home to her! Her name is Noodle and she's the sweetest, cutest little dog you will ever me! ❤❤❤
