Yes, it's been abandoned since the late 1940s. Just shows how good the military builds stuff when they want to--that it's still there! I heard that the owner of the land was planning to build something else so they moved earth out from behind the rock and now the bunker is mre precariously perched than before...

Thought you were going to take us on the Devil’s Slide Trail. It’s a beautiful walk if you’ve never been. It’s what remains of the original Highway 1 before the tunnels were built.
Going further south, I would avoid having to spend the night in Los Angeles County, too many small pockets of crime, homeless and sketchy areas. Spend night Santa Barbara, Ventura or coastal Orange County but avoid LA at night. San Diego is a nice visit, definitely drive the coast (Pacific Coast HWY ) Orange to SD. You'll love Laguna Beach, it's an artist community, lots of art galleries. Stay safe
