  • Mini skid steer engine swap/re-power using Vanguard Briggs motor in my 1980s lahman little dipper, mini skid steer. Part four and engine is in its permanent home testing movement and hydraulics. Exhaust, oil, cooler, and some electrical work. #repower #skidsteer #engineswap / @fenrirfabrication

Much appreciated, the little machine has come a long way. The effort has definitely been worth it. I was so nervous that it wouldn’t move, no history is the downside of buying something from a salvage yard. Thanks for watching.

Dang dude…you getting some things knocked out. That machine sounds really good…motor and hydraulic wise.
I’ve made a little progress on my swap but still chasing squirrels…I get distracted easily.

Thanks, trying to get as much done as I can. Before spring when things get busy. Don’t feel bad that orange bobcat in my garage has been a work in progress for a little over a year. Waiting on and sourcing parts for a fire damaged machine is a nightmare.

Totally understand sourcing parts and improvising. I bought another skid myself…after working on it for last couple days, I’m ready to walk out in front of traffic. It’s a Komatsu 34 hp that’s been sitting 25 years. About the time it almost starts…you hear the dreaded sound of a rod knock.

@@jasona6222 Been there, really makes the heart sink. Always a risk after buying something that has sat that long. After that many years, most people don’t even know why it stopped being used in the first place. I hope you can source a motor or rebuild it if possible

Does the oil cooler extend the life of the oil . Those engines typically need oil change every 5 to 8 hours run time.

Not quite. It’s a five hour interval for break in oil. Filter every 100 hours and oil every 50. Personally, the oil cooler does give a little bit more capacity to the system but without a fan on it likely won’t make a massive difference in oil temperature. The factory oil cooler equipped motors had a larger flywheel fan and several holes for air to pass through the blower housing through the oil cooler.
