Thanks for the information on the internal workings. Would have like to see how the suit and fur is removed. I have the Japanese variety setting on my desk right now. I suspect a corroded battery wire with this one.

That's a great idea! You can buy a remote on/off switch on ebay or amazon for $15-$20, it should be fairly easy to wire up but it might be too big to fit inside his metal "skin". It could be mounted externally like a backpack.
@@johnmarkgordonTV alrighty then, here's the operating sequence: the motor drives some reduction gears which drive the little eccentric which moves the rod up and down which makes the head bob up and down. THAT head motion moves the arms in and out which then bang the cymbals. So in a nutshell, if you disconnect the rod then both the head and arms stop moving. Hope that helps!

Actually a company named Yamani made a close replica of this classic toy after its appearance in Toy Story 3. The replicas are available on ebay for $75-$100. And yes, the originals are fairly scarce but not too difficult to find. Just look up "musical jolly chimp" on ebay or any other auction site.
I'm actually working on that idea. I'm going to make wooden battery "blanks" that will fit inside the battery compartment and have contacts that will draw power from an external variable power supply. A good way to "unfreeze" one of these little motors that have been sitting idle foe decades is to hit them with a little extra voltage from a strong power supply, say 4 volts into a 3 volt motor.
I just found one... it's been on my "bucket list of useless crap I must own" for a long time now. He's missing the on/off switch. I've been trying to figure out the wiring from your video.. but I can't see it clearly & Ihave red yellow green white & blue wires... so I'm totally confused. While you're taking pics for the other commenter? Would you help me out?
for $7 in any condition you got a real deal! post a youtube clip of him and I'll let you know if he he looks fixable. does he do anything? Is there a lot of corrosion in the battery compartment?

Quite often the motor seizes and needs a little extra voltage, some contact cleaner, or both to get it going again
