I had never really listened to Dragonforce before Herman Li was streaming their US shows on Twitch. This song was great live, even seeing it day after day. I agree, the video could be more exciting.
I like this Song why the Song is not only fast.
Not a fan of Dragonforce music.
Yet a Herman Li human fan. I love how he's fun and not elitist, he gives headup to some guitarists by inviting them in his Twitch or video meetings (like he had Saki from NEMOPHILA invited) you should watch it. th-cam.com/video/j7yVmJhzkQI/w-d-xo.html
He also don't take himself seriously as far as Dragonforce goes and love to fool around with various musicians like Davie504, TheDooo, etc.
That's what I like about him. I initially thought he would be a true (insert any curse word of choice here) like most guitar heroes. And he's not and I like him for that. Many musician less talented than him hold themselves in higer esteem than him, and should learn from him.
EDIT : what I learned from DragonForce, never ever take too seriously anything they do. (Visuals, music) seems more than a fun, relax band than wanting to truely achieve or demostrate anything with their music. I'm still to this day not sure that they simply make fun of the Metal scene all the way. Like a true parody of that music industry.
It doesn't knock my socks off, but it is interesting. Like you I'm not a fan of shredding for it's own sake. It's good songwriting but nothing really novel. It works for me in a background music sort of way, doesn't particularly catch my attention. Great reaction!
Am with you overall - this is definitely not amongst my favorite Dragonforce songs - and I like most Dragonforce songs. Definitely not enough speed and technical work. This is their new singer for the last 4-5 albums - different from the previous singer you knew. For something better - both video and music wise, I recommend Highway to Oblivion
