IMO The lore of Evangelion is a honey trap for fans to get lost in, until we realize the true meaning of self actualization that Anno has clearly laid out for us. Both EoE and the Rebuild series are his extra effort to give the fans what they think they love, while further weaving “the message” in.
Yes, I agree with your assessment, but Anno didn't make nonsensical plot elements for the sake of it. If you look closely, everything has a reason symbolic or otherwise despite it seeming like everything was random at first glance.
@@tonyfunk Agreed, although there are some events in 3.0+1.0 that made me wonder if it is nonsense for nonsenses sake. The 3.0 world is, in my opinion, the world we create for ourselves when we can’t let go. All alone on a dead planet with our waifus. 😆 But there are two facts every Eva fan will mature into knowing: 1) Ritsuko is not only best girl, but the only ethical choice 2) “Congratulations” was the best ending, but we wouldn’t let it die, and so we were dragged through Hell with Anno in hopes we could get it on the 2nd or 3rd try.
The plot is very nonsensical and sometimes very poorly executed until you delve into other eva related media like the games or the wiki. I watched the series recently with my girlfriend and she legit did not understand a single thing about the plot, and she’s right because because most of what I know came from reading about it lmfao. Eva is still and forever will be my favorite series or franchise even, I’ve seen it way too many times and it’s my comfort show when I’m feeling down or lost, because aside from the thick as fuck plot there’s an underlying message of hope, finding our place in the world, carving our own path and never running away from the hardest obstacle in life.
@@tonyfunk The symbolic meaning could be mostly unintentional, if you believe what Anno said. I tend to agree with him, because you can generate (not sure if it's "creating") symbolic meanings without understanding the elements' inherent meanings.
This movie was so confusing, that despite your amazing explanation, it still made no fricking sense. I shall now rewatch every 10 second interval about 5 times to drill this Anno-penned-lunacy into my brain, translated by you. Thank you for the video.
Thanks again man! I'm excited for you to watch the last film because things get even worse. But thankfully I have a video that might be able to help. Once again I appreciate your comments!!!

If one watches 3.0 as the first half of 3.0 + 1.0 it's easier. I always loved 3.0 even before we get Final, it's way more adventurous than just a remake of the last third of the series. (Which in many ways, it still is.)
About Wille, you forgot this term has a strong relationship with 19th century german philosophy. Arthur Schopenhauer (the one who coined the hedgehogs dilemma) wrote all humans are guided by a Wille zu Leben (Will to live/survive), and we do not see objective reality, but our will to live determines how we see reality. For example, when we see a beautiful flower and an approaching tiger, we focus on the tiger and ignore the flower, because the actions of the tiger might be more important for our survival. But basically, our will to live causes all our suffering according to Schopenhauer. So, to free ourselves, we need to get rid of our will to live. This does not mean suicide. Schopenhauer thought Suicide paradoxically is caused by our will to live. A suicidal person does not accept his given life but wants a better life for him. This causes him to despair and to try killing himself. The true solution is basically to overcome our desires and to become indifferent. Not by seeking death, but basically becoming indifferent. Not to fear death but not to want death either. (Basically, he proposed a buddhist monk like living. Schopenhauer was one of the first people who brought eastern thought to germany. Then came Nietzsche who took Schopenhauer but basically reverse it. Nietzsche thought human culture and especially western culture became life denying. Basically, life means to suffer and to get hurt sometimes, but the bad sides of life are also part of life. You cannot embrace life if you do not want to get hurt ever. You should embrace life despite it being sometimes terrible. He thought humans seeked calmness, serenity and absence of danger etc. And this made humans dull, nihilist etc. And he rejected calling the force "will to live", because he thought people often for great goals were willing to risk their life. So , survival is just a part of this. You want to live because you want to do great things with your life. So, he thought people did not desire primary life, but primary power. The will to stay alive is just a part of the will to get power. (You basically see the Eva connection here.) Then, Freud came. He put two main instincts next to each other. He thought there is the will to love (which includes Nietzsches embrace of life. People are willing to suffer for love.) and procreation, and in contrast a will to death (Thanatos, like the song which plays when Rei blows up her eva.) Thanatos strives for Thanatos, lack of struggle and conflict and ultimately can destroy you. (So, basically, what Nietzsche described as the sickness of european civilisation and the rejection of life is in Freudian thinking, the embrace of Thanatos.) In britain. there is also aleister crowley who combined Nietzsche with some aspects of Kant and occultism and talked about the True Will. Basically your true will is some accomplishment you dream of and are willing to spend your life on. Basically you sacrifice your life to your true will.
A lot of Evangelion also relates to G.W.F Hegels philosophies as well, in relationion to self awareness and consciousness. The entire 26th episode of the original series is peppered with ideas that Hegel talks about in his works, especially the part about how you can only define the "shape" of yourself by seeing where others "shapes" begin and yours end, and how human consciousness requires other people and objects to "prove" its own existence. It really explains a lot of what's happening in human instrumentality and why Shinji rejects it
this man anno deserves to be under observation for the rest of his life and not be made to write another story ever again. Because i have realised his plan, he wants us to think and recearch so hard that our brain becomes LCL(tang) and this his version of human instrumentality.

This reminds me how I theorized about the rebuilds playing AFTER "Neon Genesis Evangelion". (around the second rebuild movie I was convinced about this) I imagined DNA was an importnat link. Like as if the time and genes were a repetetive mathematical equation repeating until the cycle is broken by "the next step" which was something that apparently Yui tried by flying through the universe in the body of an Eva. It wouldn't even have been weird in regards to Hideaki Anno. Around that time flying away from the planet in the womb of his mother might've totally been a thing he thought about as a story.
That's an interesting theory man! I agree it wouldn't have been out of character for Hideaki Anno to incorporate a concept like that into the rebuilds. It would've made for a cool addition to the lore in terms of expanding human instrumentality as some kind of universal version of this conscious travelling.
Who are you dictating the job of God and his ways and deeming He failed? Is it really impossible for you to imagine at least a little bit why He doesn't revolve morals and reality that He made around human ego especially YOU? I know you feel a lot of suffering and pain, but one thing atheists and anti-christs always fail to understand, your suffering is actually caused by your own rejection that always results in the lack to no blessing which actually God always gives freely. Evil always happens because of disconnection from Jesus and real fulfillment can only be achieved by accepting Him and His laws. Please remember that. God bless you.
He is not taking about the God of real life. Notice he said "a god." He's talking about the ancestral race from Evangelion. Please calm down.@@Thewingsoffreedom.
@@Thewingsoffreedom. belief systems are as strong as you see them and it permeates your vision of the world. It doesn't need to be real to be accepted as such. I see it all the time in the billions of humans that find such theosophies useful for survival and population genetics shows the trait is necessary for Humanity's general survival for the nonce should the environment change radically enough such beliefs will lose their use and the species will need literally adapt or die out. Such is how Evolution works.
17:43 there’s a lot of atomic age nuclear reactor imagery here. Removing the wrong spears feels a lot like the panic and improvisation in the control room at Chernobyl
Obviously this is the best explanation video on part 3! I had to watch some bits about 4-5 times and I still only get a tenth of it... But as I was rewatching the first three movies yesterday, what always bugs me and I cannot warp my head around it if it even means something: at the very beginning of the 3rd movie everything happens in complete darkness... there are no stars... so are we really "in space"... later on, when earth appears, there are stars and we see space and the universe... before that everything happens completely "outside" of that... I have tried to find anyone talking about this, but so far no luck. Curious if it even means something, but it always bugged me not to see any stars in the beginning as if it was an "error"...
Your explanation clears some things up for me. It makes me think that Shinji will end up transcending Humanity and might become of the Original Race that created Adam and Lilith. And maybe that was the whole point as how could The Divine Race make the mistake of have 2 Seeds of Creation land in the same place? My thought is they're not a dying race but rather have a complex manner of which they can reproduce and Need to Have to Create a Lilin with an Adam Soul transcend like he almost did.
That's a very interesting and unique take! It's definitely thought provoking and would have some pretty cool implications about the purpose of Instrumentality.
You could see it in a way, that the ancient race is us, the real world humans, the real world animators of the anime, that created the whole thing. The anime is about fleeing from reality into the comforting world of anime and wants to show all weebs out there to not run away from their real lifes. In the end of 3.0+1.0 shinji transcends into the real world, the world without evas, after he managed to understand the beauty and pain of life. And I strongly think that Anno wanted the viewer to do exactly this too.
13:17 close, but it was Kaji who strapped a spear to his aircraft and rammed Lilith. The spears are alive and sentient so this worked somehow, at the cost of Kaji’s life. Offscreen moment of awesome.
I personally dont think the Seele members are embedded in the monoliths in the Original. You can see the Head of them in End of Evangelion turning to LCL under the Influence of Lilith. There has to be something gone wrong after end of evangelion that caused the mebers to transfer into pure "Floatbrains" there is something anno didn't tell us about them that forced them to this step.
I don’t think you can really use things from the rebuilds to justify things in NGE or EOE, like how Seele is indeed just using some cool discord pfp’s in NGE, but are the monoliths in the rebuilds.
The “Adam” on the moon isn’t adam it’s Lillith. It’s mask matches lillith’s mask while the “lillith” nerv has is actually adam. It’s a divergence in the timeline. In the original show they thought nerv was holding adam and it was a surprise when it turned out they were really holding lillith. The rebuild timeline has the same scene of the reveal to misato and instead of misato being surprised and thinking it’s adam she’s surprised thinking it’s lillith. The being nerv is holding also has a mask which matches the look of the angels. So in the rebuild selle is control of lillith on the moon and nerv is in control of adam. I don’t know the implications of this but I think this is the source of the differences in gendo’s and selle’s plans from the plans in the original series.
Okay so bit of an issue with your claim. They refer to unit 6 as a vessel of the Adams therefore its not lilith. And Eva Imaginary in 3.0+1.0 is also proof perfect of this being that Shinji refers to it as "black lilith" and Gendoh doesnt say nuh uh its adam he says it certainly looks that way doesnt it.
I think there is 4-5 Adam's. There is picture of 4 Babylonian kings and one more with wings. And that isn't Mary's mom. I think it is Mary herself. Maybe this from another youtuber.
i love evangelion lore and the explanations in this video series, but trying to understand everything is like being in AP calculus as a freshman in high school. you though you were the shit ad knew everything but you have no idea what you're getting yourself into
Do the number of adams being 4 coincide with the number of loops? Even though we see numerous coffins on the moon... maybe 4 are the amount of loops that have passed certain thresholds/number of steps of the deadsea scrolls, lining up with the og series, eoe, manga, and rebuild?
dawg, adam arrived on earth, and was ready to colonize the planet, untill some other mf also goes into your planet, disables you to making any colonizations and then has the audacity to say that they were the victim
Is it possible the 4th adam is kawaru? All the other adams seem to be accounted for. If kowaru acts how he does in the original series; in the sense that he is Adams soul, then it would make sense for him to be the fourth Adam. I feel like this is obvious to the point i must be missing something but thats the head cannon i have.
what do you mean by suspended animation in 15:34?? does it mean shinji didnt grow old??? btw I did not watch 3.33 yet I'me here in yt for clarifications first
Why do the depictions of Adam as an EVA have Pylons? I thought those were addons if present at all to the armor of the EVAs and not an actual part of them?
Wait. Are you telling me there is a non-zero chance this whole "rebuild" thing will boil down to "we are all Gendou Ikair's abandoned soulless children" Battlestar Galactica style????
That's not Mary mom that's Mary.... I thought i finally understand Evangelion until the 3.0+1.0 Also. What happened to Asuka and all the soul after Shinji changed the world
Neon Genesis Evangelion, then End of Evangelion, then Rebuild. The manga could be read before that order or after although it'd be best if it was read before as it covers a lot of lore.
26:41 .. You SAID there were 'Four' ancestors, Right? .. So they each probably had their own divine weapons, Or at least some of them did. Why wouldnt they. AND they probably were trying to conceive of ways to preserve their lineage innumerable more than just the lilith and adam-things, To the LAST pitaful-breath of theirs. Wouldnt you or anyone after all. Since they were 'Dying out..' That also doesnt sound like they were entirely ''Divine'' if such was the case. There was and remains things far beyond their abilities and longevity in this franchise.
rebuild is a loop of a repeating time loop due to instrumentality events of the og end of eva it may explaon, also mari appears in flashbacks with gendo and tarkin, i still feel she was shoved in as fan service, but hey has rva ever been understandable?
The reference of this movie is Kabbalah. Kabbalah is the Gnostic version of Judaism. Acvording to Gnosticism, the god who created thr material universe, earth, creatures and human is not the true god. He is not the Source of the spirits. Instead, he is Satan the devil in the bible. He is the god of the Old Testament but he is also Satan. Humans and animals do not belong to this Prison Planet called Earth to suffer and struggle. The Demiurge Yaldabaoth/Yahweh created human beings and animals but he is not the source of our spirit. The Father that Jesus taught is the true Source of spirits. He is the Monad. The gnostics call this world prison planet. Our main purpose is to exit this matrix by achieving gnosis/knowledge and higher conciousness. Yaldabaoth created humans to be his slaves. According to the Apocryphon of John and the Apocalypse of Adam, Yahweh/Yaldabaoth is an ignorant god. He was created by an Aeon by mistake and throw him into the abyss(3rd dimension/material universe/lowest realm). Gnostics compared him to an aborted fetus. That's why if you read the bible you'll see that he is a bipolar god who killed millions of people and having a mood swing. The true God is the Source of pure light and spirits. The good God. In gnosticism this world is the true hell. They believe that we are living in hell right now.
Dear friend from the US: When trying to pronounce foreign words, use the text to speech features that come with many dictionaries nowadays, including google translate. The German word "Seele" for example isn't pronounced "Silo". I know it's hard for you because you don't know any foreign language, but please give it a try.
I corrected my pronunciations in the 3.0+1.0 video to match more closely to the original pronunciations of the words. Not that it matters but English isn't even my first language so before you decide to say passive aggressive remarks you should probably know something about the person you're referring to.

Comm8ng from reading the Bible and adding to this anine it makes so so much sense in a creepy I see both side way but at the end God only wants to end the suffering of mortals by being one with God pyre souls joining God's kingdom to finally be at peace, free will got us humans in this wicked mess we must gladly give God our hearts and purify our souls from sin to be one and no longer have freewill

17:43 there’s a lot of atomic age nuclear reactor imagery here. Removing the wrong spears feels a lot like the panic and improvisation in the control room at Chernobyl
13:55 that was Dr Katsuragi. Gendo had already taken a boat outta there, knowing what was about to happen
@@tonyfunk He is the only Human we ever see Transcend.
@@rovgor if humans were this then they fell ages ago and aren't what they use to be. So different they are aliens to these entities.

13:17 close, but it was Kaji who strapped a spear to his aircraft and rammed Lilith. The spears are alive and sentient so this worked somehow, at the cost of Kaji’s life. Offscreen moment of awesome.
I didn't feel the closure until i finished this video lol its been 19 years T.T of "what?" , lol ty
At the end of Eva movie, there's an Adam and Lilith technically in the unit 1. Along with chunks of Gendo. Evangelion is story that repeats. 🤷
I remember the theory that the rebuilds are somehow a sequel to end of eva even certain moments paralling eachother
Well that technically was true unfortunately
it's obvious from first scene of first film
Some how it feel even more confused after I looked at this clip than before.
you know all of this wouldn't happen if yui was just a bit careful with unit 01
There's an entire chapter about Mari (and her relationship with Yui, Gendo and Fuyutsuki) in the manga
Man makes Gods, man becomes Gods, Man replaces one God with another. The circle of Celstrial Existence.
TO SKIP 35 MINUTES
kawuro is the messiah in evangelions universe who sacrifices himself
Messiahs whether light or dark sacrifice at the end of their use. Seems to be their pattern of function.
love the video:)
Thank you! That means a lot!!!!
@@tonyfunk keep up the great work! im looking forward new stuff:))
Thanks again! More cool stuff to come!
Its asuka who had an angel soul, the adam soul needed in the finale.
Lilith isn’t holder of the seed of wisdom and knowledge ?
The last film answers lots of theories presented here
Lilith is looked upon as a renegade against God's plan and will so she gets cursed to become a Monster Mother like Echidna and Kali-Ma.
I'm watching this after only really having watched analysis of the first series, and it's bugging me out quite a bit lmao
Which analysis did you watch?
@@Sesshyru I think it was one of the "NGE Explained" videos, but I don't remember exactly which one
I don’t think you can really use things from the rebuilds to justify things in NGE or EOE, like how Seele is indeed just using some cool discord pfp’s in NGE, but are the monoliths in the rebuilds.
"This is Mary's mom"... Buahahahahaha.....
HOLI SHET, cause of too much technical information from you, i needed to slow down the pace to 0.75 in order to understand you better
What ever works use it!
i love evangelion lore and the explanations in this video series, but trying to understand everything is like being in AP calculus as a freshman in high school. you though you were the shit ad knew everything but you have no idea what you're getting yourself into
Do the number of adams being 4 coincide with the number of loops? Even though we see numerous coffins on the moon... maybe 4 are the amount of loops that have passed certain thresholds/number of steps of the deadsea scrolls, lining up with the og series, eoe, manga, and rebuild?
dawg, adam arrived on earth, and was ready to colonize the planet, untill some other mf also goes into your planet, disables you to making any colonizations and then has the audacity to say that they were the victim
Grand Moff Fuyutsuki 😂
It was obvious that she was a clone of his mother i at least to me
Clones are individuals after all.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, then End of Evangelion, then Rebuild.

There was and remains things far beyond their abilities and longevity in this franchise.
i just give up on understanding evangelion

In the manga, Mari is shown hanging out with Yui, which is both a cute story and pretty interesting.
@@tonyfunk Good to hear that you finally went ahead and fixed your pronounciation, but with all due respect, I'll formulate my criticism the way I like.
