  • Women across the country are feeling the brutal effects of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade as one Texas woman described her experience of having to carry a dead fetus for over 2 weeks before finding a doctor to treat her. Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy care are also being lumped in with abortion care, handcuffing doctors, and effectively taking their input out of the picture due to legal ramifications. Cenk Uygur and Francesca Fiorentini discuss on The Young Turks. Watch LIVE weekdays 6-8 pm ET. th-cam.com/users/theyoungturkslive

"The same surgical procedure that is used to treat a miscarriage is also used for terminating pregnancies. New Texas anti-abortion laws have doctors nervous to perform procedures for miscarriages, forcing this woman to carry her dead fetus in her womb for two weeks. CNN's Elizabeth Cohen has more"

My wife works in healthcare. When the Supreme Court ruling was announced, her immediate response was how situations like this were going to be unavoidable. Women will be denied heath care, as a direct and indirect result of the ruling. What provider is going to take the risk of being charged with murder by performing any procedures that could be considered abortion.

Very true and I support all medical reasons why an abortion should be carried out if the mother’s life/health is at risk. What baffles me is why they make so much fuss about abortions? Pro-life is their mantra. There tube automatically changes the child is born. They no longer give a damn. They cut food stamps for vulnerable low income families. They make access to medical care difficult to near impossible. The curtail education and development with retrograde policies like banning activities and dictating what they can’t read. And the cherry on the cake of no longer giving a damn about pro-life is their refusal to stop massacres in schools by reforming gun control. The second amendment to them is more important than dozens of lives- where’s their pro - life rhetoric now? Hypocrisy!

I agree but it was disturbing to see Every doctor, who we assume care about life, hopefully ours, refuse to say they wouldn't chop up & abort a fully grown fetus. Saving the mothers should be important but they didn't mean "in event mother isn't going to die, all is well but labor has begun, would they saw the baby all up to abort it and kept saying I would do what the mother asks for. It was creepy bc a fully grown fetus is us, just tiny & brand new. I hoped there was an adoption system or something. Women abort babies simply bc the dad isn't interested so they punish the dads. Its just sooo... many abortions yet not one of the women choose to grow up & NOT have sex on their ovulation days. Its already horrible that we are raped, little girls impregnated and mothers who are going to suffer a terrible loss due to medical issues... Tho, I also realize more women take that pill now than get actual abortions so its a bit corrupt for the govt debates to include those numbers as if they were phys abortions. They are taking a guess based on the pharmacies who provided the pill. The rest is spies exaggerating the numbers & we all know they didn't have spies in thousands of clinics.

Using the ectopic rate of 1 in 50:
For every 37 pregnancies that result in birth, there were approximately 12 autonomous terminations (miscarriages) and 1 ectopic pregnancy. Of those 37 successful pregnancies, approximately 11 will be C-section (30%). So out of 50 pregnancies only half are "safe" and viable. This isn't about adoption, or responsibility. THIS IS ABOUT HEALTH: ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE.

I did this when I had a miscarriage, i.e. chose to let my body complete the 'abortion' of the dead tissue naturally. I live in the UK and it was a difficult decision, as the recommended action is the D&C. It took a few weeks and I can tell you it was a MISERABLE time, not only physically, but emotionally [I don't want to go into why I chose it, it was a strategic weighing of what I considered to be the hormonal benefits - to try again - versus the potential risk ]. As Francesca noted, it's not just the medical risk but forcing a mother to carry this dead tissue that - if you were hoping for a baby - may have already felt like a child. It's CRUEL - it's a form of mental TORTURE and that can't be understated. This is a bunch of (mainly men) torturing women. It's absolutely disgusting, if it was the UK I would be out on the streets protesting.

I've had 12 miscarriages. I'm in Missouri. I'm terrified I'll get pregnant again. My last miscarriage nearly killed me. I nearly bleed to death. I had a uterine infection, because the doctor told me it was best to let it pass naturally, & a month later, I nearly died. I've had an ectopic pregnancy. I can't carry a baby to term, is what I've been told, but not having medical insurance has kept me from getting real help. All I've ever wanted was children, & my husband, & I never could. I was told for help to go to the local church, & pray. I've had to have the abortion pill 3 times, because I didn't pass my baby, after they died. If you haven't been through these horrors, you wouldn't understand. Pro-life is really pro murder. Why does no one cares about the mother's life, the people who love her, & support her when she's going through hell. Whether a woman wants the baby, or not, it's never easy. It's horrible as can be. Can you imagine carrying your dead fetus for a month, & everyone telling you congratulations, when you already know, it's only going to be a funeral? The people making these laws do not understand, & don't care about women. We have a really high infant, & mother mortality rate for an industrialized first world country. We have the most expensive medical care, yet we stand by, & let women die. We forbid abortion, & now birth control. Are chastity belts required next? I'd probably die if I got pregnant again. I need a hysterectomy, but it cost money, & I'm my husband's caregiver now, & we'd have serious problems when I would need recovery time. We have no help, or family, it money. We are in a rural area, so it makes it all harder. So if I get pregnant, I will suffer, & possibly die. That's why I'll never vote for any republican ever again. This is trump's fault, for putting liars on the supreme court. Republicans are heartless murderers!

I’m also scared to get pregnant right now in Missouri. My husband and I are thinking about moving to Colorado so that we try and safely have a baby without trigger bans. Without fear of dying from getting pregnant like the 1420’s.

There was a woman in Poland who was having twins and one died. Poland has anti-abortion laws, and the doctors were afraid to remove the dead fetus. So, her baby that was still alive had to continue developing with its corpse twin. When she did deliver, she delivered a dead fetus and a live baby. But, the mom became very sick, and she died... and so did her baby that was born alive. The rotting fetus inside of her, being absorbed by her body and likely the living twin, killed them both.
Another woman in Poland pregnant, the fetus died, and they left that corpse inside of her for two weeks. She died.
Cenk is right, Republicans are NOT pro-life, and it is about controlling women. In fascism, controlling women is just one of the signs... yep, they're fascist. Evangelicults are the worst people that claim to be Christian (and they are not - read Jesus Sermon on the Mount, and they are the opposite of or oppose everything Jesus said you must become in order to be called the Children of God). This Federalist Society and Opus Dei-approved US Extreme Court already has blood on their hands. They have created a dangerous world for ALL pregnant women.
Out of all the wealthy, developed, OECD countries, the United States is second to the worst. For infant mortality rate among the OECD countries, the US is at a terrible #33 out of 36 countries. If Republicans were pro-Life they would be concerned about those deaths (they aren't), but the US is going to be even worse since the ban on abortion in these states, particularly the stupid ones that have no exceptions. America is supposed to be the greatest and wealthiest country in the world, but just how great could we possibly be when we had the most deaths from the pandemic, we have appalling Maternal and Infant Mortality Rates, and the rigged courts are going to make sure it gets a lot worse because of these stupid laws that they think is protecting life when they are just aborting women instead. We need to abort this US Extreme Court of the Federalist Society and Opus-Dei. They are making America relive this episode from fifty years ago when we, as a society, decided we had too many women die, and we moved to protect women and their grown-up, adult right to make their own medical decisions.
Republicans lie to their cult followers and tell them that Democrats want to control all aspects of their lives. This is typical of Repugnicants - they always accuse Democrats of the very things which they, themselves, are guilty. So, when a Repugnicant makes an accusation about Democrats, consider it the Repugnicants confession. It is Repugnicants that want the government to decide that women are going to be birthing factories and they don't care that girls and women are stripped of their rights if they don't want to have a baby, and they don't care if their laws kill girls and women, but the State is going to force that girl or woman to give birth or die.
Removing an embryo from the fallopian tube is NOT murder. It is a necessary medical procedure but, it will be murder if these Draconian and stupid laws cause a woman with an ectopic pregnancy to die because anti-choice/forced-birthers don't want to "murder" something that won't develop into a baby no matter what. Remove the rogue embryo!
American women are 50% more likely to die from pregnancy than their mothers were. That 50% was the number BEFORE the fascists on the Extreme Court overturned ROE. It is going to get worse. A lot of women are going to die. A lot.
Do they want women out of the workforce because women make the competition more difficult for promotions and the big paying jobs?
Well, what about single mothers (could be widowed or the man ran off and divorced her for a younger model)? Are they going to be treated the same way poor people are treated - calling them lazy, freeloaders, or sluts? No welfare queens, no welfare at all? How about healthcare or assistance with food? No? Do these people not know that the Lord destroyed towns on the plain because, according to the Prophet Ezekiel, the people were arrogant, they had an abundance, they were unconcerned, they would not help the poor and needy. They sound like Evangelicults and Conservatives. They don't want to help immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, they only want to help themselves and control women.

What "waiting for an ectopic pregnancy to errupt" means is the fallopian tube errupting. This is EXTREMELY painful. For men - imagine waiting for your testicle to swell and rapture. Also EXTREMELY DANGEROUS for the mother.

    • @NoirChloe
      @NoirChloe ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actually. there was one case, where the ectopic pregnancy happened, but it turned out to be on the outside of the fallopian tube, so it was forming a sack in the empty space next to the guts, while the placenta clinged on the tube. I think they managed to save the baby that time, but the woman had her tube removed after that, because it was damaged beyond repair. But that is the only case in the whole human history.

There is a misconception - actually, a misunderstanding caused by misinformation campaigns by the right - that a fetal heartbeat can be detected at 6 weeks. It can't. There is no heart at 6 weeks, thus no heartbeat. What can be detected at around 6 weeks is electrical fluctuations in a tiny clump of cells that will act as the natural pacemaker of the heart that won't be developed until later. The general "4 chambers" structure exists at around 8 weeks, but the complex organized muscle structure for a fully functional heart doesn't exist until closer to 20 weeks.

This what happens when you don't teach science. It's estimated that 50% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Roughly 20% of those happen before a woman even misses her first period. It happens because the embryo is not genetically viable. It's not even a fetus until 10 weeks. It has a tail, and rendering of an embryo or fetus looking anything like a baby is fantasy to down play the realities of the body horror pregnancy actually is.
After a heartbeat is detected risk of miscarriage drops, but doesn't disappear. Depending on random bad luck and other risk factors there's so many ways a pregnancy can go sideways right up until the end. Childbirth and pregnancy is risky and historically deadly. That was the beauty of modern medicine. But I guess if you don't teach science you won't use science. A lot of American women are going to die.
I am sure glad as a high risk pregnant woman I live in Canada.

You bring up a very interesting point. Republicans are avidly pro-life, but just for people who aren't yet born. They don't want nationalized medicine that will allow everyone to have medical care and the possibility of live-saving treatment.

Funny considering that it was their religious persecution back in the 1700's that chased all the extreme religious fanatics to these shores in the 1st place. We're just entering those beginning phases where they're attempting mass religious indoctrination, again. Unfortunately, this is where things get bad. Even worse, since there's no place for them to flee when things go really sideways this time.

There are cases throughout the world of what they call a "stone baby". This is where the baby has died in the uterus and isn't absorbed by the woman's body and turns onto a calcified growth. There is one case in particular, I think somewhere in Africa, where the mother ran away out of fear of having to have a x-section and the baby never delivered. Because she woman was too afraid to get health care, she carried the baby for the rest of her life. She was pregnant with a stone baby for 70yrs!

Perhaps we should require vasectomies for all males? That way, it's the men's bodies that are being medically controlled instead of women's bodies being politically controlled. (Do I really think this should be done - of course not! But, if it's okay to tell me as a woman what I can do with my body, then it should be fair to do it to all males, too, right?) And, vasectomies are reversible, right? So, when a man can PROVE that he is capable of being a good father and providing for his offspring, then he can get it reversed. Oh, but he would have to be MARRIED and make at least $400k/year in order to be considered a "real man". Rape becomes punishable by the death penalty.

I remember an article about this topic in Ireland, because a lot of the hospitals are religiously run and even when someone's suffered a miscarriage, most of the hospitals there will outright refuse to abort the baby and expect the woman to find a way to either wait through the term and deliver a dead baby, or miscarry fully with no help from them. So many women in Ireland have died from sepsis and complications from miscarriages and in utero deaths, and I have no idea how a doctor can take a hippocratic oath and yet defer to religion that contradicts that oath. Separation of Church from State and General Hospitals.
