  • Scale Improvisation - Mohanam Ragam Alabanai. Today is Vijayadashami day which is an important celebration in Hindu festival. So I thought it is a good day to show you the first improvisation that I learnt from my teacher @guitarprasanna ! In Carnatic music (Indian classical), a lot of importance is given to improvisation using the specific notes in that ragam (modes/scales) and I love that because I feel it's so cool how this allows me the freedom to explore and play around the notes used in that song and not just play the song exactly as it is. So I want to learn a lot about improvising when playing a song. What I am playing today is an improvised intro before a song starts (called alabanai) and it's based on a Mohanam ragam which is actually quite a popular scale used in Carnatic music. It is on a major scale. But the way it is played, it even makes a major scale sound like a melancholy. It's so cool and that's why I love exploring carnatic music as well on top of my other music interests. Probably the only 10 yr old on the planet who is playing Carnatic music, TOOL and headbanging to heavy metal!
BTW, I am finally back home now after 3 months in Sydney. It's good to be back and I missed my room. Next, I am really looking forward to my reunion with my Adam Jones guitar after 3 long months! It's coming up next.

I've noticed I've started using finger slides in my solos a lot more since watching your videos....😁🤩

That’s so awesome!! I noticed the slides aren’t used that much in other genres and it’s really awesome and gives a very different vibe/tone when slides are used well. I’m very glad my videos can inspire. 😊😁
