  • This week on Buckle Up Harry drives a forty year old, immaculate, one owner Datsun. The only hitch is it has so many different names internationally it's hard to know which one to refer to it by. Should it be Datsun A10 or Datsun 510 or Datsun Stanza or Datsun Violet or Nissan Violet or Datsun J-series (1600J/1800J) or Datsun 140J/160J/180J or Nissan Auster or Yue Loong 709/711/712?
    This car was very kindly lent to Buckle Up by René Antonio García Pérez

    Thanks for the review, my dad had Scandinavian export white Datsun 160J with 4 round lights up front in the 1990s. This was a great car.

    Didn't show us the engine. BTW door mirror not wing mirror :) I'm suprised that has 14 inch wheels, I've only ever seen them with 13 inch.

      Depending on how quickly we have to film videos (and how interesting certain bits are) we don't end up filming some stuff! Guess the 14" wheels mean it's a sports spec 😉

    I'm not convinced this is a 1981 model. I owned a 1981 model myself. The transition between the round headlights to the square ones came some time around 1979-80 and coincided with different tail lights and different instruments in the dashboard. The one in this video certainly has the later grille and headlights, but the tail lights and dashboard are from the 1977-79 model.

      Is that all specific to the mexican market model, since there's about 12 slightly different iterations of the vehicle that we're sold in different markets concurrently

    my dad's car in the 80's, a 1980 Datsun A10 160J Estate/Wagon (1600 carbureted engine). I love wagons, would like to find a neat one to restore and take care of. Also a Nissan Tsuru B11 and B12, as a little collection of old estates.

      The trick will be finding one in a climate where rust wasn't ever a concern

    hey man great vid, i'm Mexican and My dad owns an American model of the violet (1978-ish) and it has its diferencies compared to the Mexican model specially the interior and the drive wheel. And yes, because it was sell with the name 510 i had a very difficult time trying to figure out what exact model it was. it seems like we went thru the same pain.

      They're all broadly the same, so it's very hard to find specific info on one variant so I just went general 😅

      Do you have fond memories of it?

    • @mistermornevanderberg
      @mistermornevanderberg 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ironically I was afraid of it - but this is because I was underage most of the time we owned it. It was such a steady, strong vehicle in its time. Unfortunately my mother had to sell it. But seeing one again brings back great memories from childhood also @@BuckleUpShow

    No power steering. Recirculating ball steering box type. Steering is nicest on the A14 powered version as they are the lightest.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to compare it, every other recirc ball system I've used has been over assisted on a off road 4x4, definitely nicer steering that any of them

    What does J stands for?

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably means they had J Series engines, but I'm far from an expert
