“Look at the person we’re creating on the journey”. That quote will stick with me as I prepare for my third world major, Berlin Marathon. I’ve only been running for 5 years (I was obese before my running journey) and I could not agree more. Running has given me so much even on days where it blew up. You both are great inspirations to us all! Keep grinding and know this is just part of an incredible story!! Congrats to you and Mary!!
I love y’all! I love this video! I ran the 128th Boston marathon too! I had an absolutely amazing race! I have no words for the feelings I had as I was running this amazing course! Such an honor & privilege to be here! This was my first Boston but not my last! I got a BQ so will be returning in 2025! I’m 66 years young & my time was 3:50:57, not my best marathon but still great for this course & the heat & full out sun! Congratulations to you both! Love watching the videos! #BostonStrong #Boston2025 🦄🦄🦄💙💛🏃♀️ 🏃♂️
Well done! Running a sub-3 in Boston on an off-day. It may have been your C-goal, but you can be proud of both the result and of your determination on the day.
Well done Ben! I’m actually glad to hear that you struggled. Not to point finger and scoff, but to see a great example of pushing through pain and suffering to finish what you started! Thank you for your (and Mary’s) hard work!
Well done Ben - it’s when things are tough we learn who we really are, and you ground out a result there when everything in your body was telling you no! You’re right to be proud. Looking forward to seeing Mary’s race!
Inspirational stuff Ben. Amazing effort and what a finish. Also thanks for showing your brief walking break. I felt I'd failed when I had to walk/run the last 10k of Brighton. It's made me reevaluate my run.
Ben, this was tense. I literally felt my own HR rising as I watched you! But brother, you pulled it back from the brink! So many would've bailed--and bless 'em; they're doing what they gotta do--but you're too resilient for that. Given all that'd come before, quitting wasn't worth it. As if we needed any proof, this is it: You well and truly are a runner, deep down to the yolk! You inspire! Thank you for this channel! Can't wait to catch Mary's journey this weekend!
Congrats Ben - you are amazing and your perseverance is both admirable and inspirational. Absolutely loved the Boston daily diaries. Final episode to go….bring it home Mary!
Thank you for sharing. I say this with all due respect it was nice to see you struggle. I’m someone that struggles so to always watch you guys kill all your runs can sometimes be deflating wondering what I’m doing wrong. Hope this makes sense and thanks again for sharing.
Congrats Ben, if it doesnot turn out to go as you want, you still did it. You are an inspiration. I hope to run a marathon next year. Injury and covid has put my plans for a marathon on hold for more then 3 years. But I am back training again since this year februari. Already running 16KM again and getting to my first half marathon on the first of June. It will be 3 almost 4 years since I last run half a marathon. Good luck and hope you get to 100K subscribers soon, you deserve it 🙂
So inspiring how you gutted it out at the end. So many can relate to those emotions. You had me crying! Well done, Ben! You conquered Boston!! Bring on Chicago!
Wow this really spoke to me. I also ran my 1st Boston this year and had a very similar experience (slightly slower time aside 😂). You capture the beauty and cruelty of the marathon perfectly Ben, well done ❤
Superb Ben.... and looking back at it may be the 1 minute walk helped you drop your HR and how empty your tank and get to the finish line Sub 3hrs too ~ personally thats Awesome 👏👏
Ben, guts and determination in abundance: The illness you had must have had a major effect not only on missing sessions but what your body had to cope with in dealing with it. Well done on seeing it through.
Oh my goodness, I loved this video! I know this doesn't make you feel that much better, but almost everyone struggled on Marathon Monday. Also, the travel, the week, etc., played a part, no doubt. I think you and Mary did awesome and your summary of the reasons and experiences in training for and running a marathon was spot on. Bask in your accomplishments, rest up, and get back out there. Hope to see you two at Chicago.
When things get uncomfortable, we bring the best out regardless of the outcome. Always learning and becoming a better person! Congrats on finishing the Boston Marathon!!!
Thank you for your raw honesty. It's comforting to me to know that people with more experience struggled on this day and your thoughts at the end are perfectly articulated and made me cry. The only goal I achieved was to finish and that was enough.
Great video. I was in the last group and it was hot hot hot. I was half an hour out from where I planned and ended up with the plan of just making it to the next water station. And then from there to the next one. It was so hard but also the best one completed.massive achievement 👍👍
I watched you and Parks running close together. Was that intentional? The time is very respectable and enjoyed watching you and Mary cross off this major. Thanks for a good run up series and a great race video!
Brilliant effort Ben, physically and mentally. That was exactly what happened to me last year in New York. Was gutted. But it just goes to show the reality of this sport and sometimes things don't go your way. You just have to stay positive, no matter the outcome. You can't complain with a sub 3 though, even though you walked some of it. I'm still working to towards my first sub 3, so I would have been extremely happy with your result. Keep up the great, inspiring work! 👏 Always next time!
Ben..you showed up and finished. That is amazing. All those hours of work. Thank you for showing how hard work and determination is so important to achieve goals.
Thanks for your honesty about how hard it is sometimes. Grateful also for you both taking us on a journey to and through the Boston Marathon. What a great glimpse into something I would love to do, but almost certainly won't get the chance to
I'm so sorry you didn't have it that day Ben. I know how hard you worked for this. You are an inspiration, keep pushing and you have big things ahead for the future! 💪
Great job, Ben, no matter the time! Even if the legs didn't show up, YOU did and that's indeed what matters!! It's inspiring to see that anyone of us can have days and races when the pieces are just not coming together - and that's allright, too... I think, keeping the overall goal (all majors sub3hrs) alive is also great! Congrats!!!!🎉🎉🎉
Congrats to you both! Great job finishing, Ben - especially when you didn't feel your best. You have achieved so much over the last year, and throughout all the videos you've made. You're a beast, always! =D Here's to the next one!
Sometimes the moments of personal pride are NOT the speedy performances. I ran Boston in 2019 after chronic fatigue had prevented training for months. I got around in 5:28 (2:10 slower than my qualifier a year before) - Its by far my slowest road marathon performance, but one I am immensely proud of because I had to dig deep into the reserves of mental strength to drag my failing body around (I then spent 10 days in hospital after I got home to Australia - but that's another story altogether!). Well done for having the insight to take away (and SHARE) the positivity of the day!
I couldn't wait for this video as I followed your progress on the Boston app. Saw your awesome time but had an inkling something went wrong somewhere. So sorry you didnt make you A goal, but you should still be very very proud. A marathon is always a humbling experience. Your mind stayed on top and that is awe inspiring! Well done! Looking forward to Mary's video! Enjoy the downtime!
Amazing effort. Filming during that, arrgh. If I had done your traveling and some of the shake out runs prior to the race, I know my legs wouldn't of been with me for sure. You and Mary are inspirational to my first half coming up. Cheers
Congrats on an job well done!!🎉👏 The course is hard! Add the weather and Monday was a train wreck for many!! It was great meeting you and Mary twice over the weekend! Safe travels home and get ready for the fast Chicago course that I've run twice!! 😁😁👍👍
Thank you for sharing your emotional marathon experience! I cried hard by the end of the video because I could relate so much ❤🙌 had a similar experience at the Berlin half marathon last weekend 😢
I hope you do feel super proud. It’s the mark of your determination that you can go sub 3 hours on a bad day and you kept grinding. Love your channel. You help keep me running. Keep smiling. Hope you reach 100k subs soon. X
Instead of what you thought was gonna be a video on sufferfest, this has been the most motivational one that I have watched on your channel. Thank you for showing us pure resilience and the result of months and months of hard work. Not one went to waste. You guys deserve a 100k subscribers and more! Continue inspiring! 🎉
No matter what, you’re both WINNERS! Congratulations for completing it after having to revisit the core of what makes a marathon great: every single cell of ourselves to give it all. God bless you!💙
The message in your outro is so touching as it resonates with all of us runners. Congrats to you and Mary on a successful finish, albeit not your best race ever. Stay strong and keep running!
Amazing journey Ben. You committed 100% and have been consistently laying layer upon layer of deep fitness and grit and your character is stronger than ever because of it; I can even see that your relationships are stronger than ever. Those are the real wins. Your mettle was tested and found to be of extremely high quality. You continue to be an inspiration to me and I continually aspire to emulate your dedication to living a life thoroughly committed to one’s best self. Please keep up this great work that is your life shared with so many as an example. ❤💪🙏👏
Congrats man! I had a similar day in terms of missing my A, B, and C goals monday in Boston. I was initially very disappointed but now am probably more proud of my finish and the guts it took than of any previous more "successful" races. Your comment on regret of not trying really hit home with me.
It’s so so brilliant to see you take stock of what is a massive achievement despite not being able to perform to your best on the day 🙏🏻 You shown real strength of character - be proud ❤️
You did it! I’m no where near the running levels of Mary and you but it goes to show the hard work really pays off. My goal is to one day run a marathon and these videos provide the inspiration I need to get there. Such an incredible journey from you both. 🎉
Awesome job - super proud of you both. I could tell (I'm sure we all could) in your last few days videos that you were not 100% (just your voice) and was really hoping it would all come together on race day but we all know that feeling. What you said at the end is so true. We do all this training and some race days our legs or bodies just don't show up. To still grind out a sub 3 is incredible. Very well done and now you are overdue for a great race day experience on your next one:)
The marathon cramps, I had them in bucket loads in Boston. The last I remember is the hills and then the inside of that medical tent. I did the hot one in 2013 and I believe that was a hot one too this year. Well done Ben and Mary.
Fellow wave 1 corral 5 runner here. The comment of the "regret of not trying" really resonates. That's what keeps me going in the later miles. How will I feel the next day if I don't give it my all? Great seeing you out on the course and following your journey here. Let's get to 100k!
Many thanks for the video. Especially loved your analysis at the end. Only too well this year, I understand the phrase " something deep inside stirred....forced me to finish". iIt is always amazing when against all odds manage to finish. Congratulations and good luck for Chicago. Look forward to more videos.
I love how you are able to switch gears and fund a new drive when things are not going good. The Lord has always been gracious to me on race day and it always seems to go as training would reveal expectations. That would be hard to have a bad day on the day you want it the most. I ran next to you around 10k in and gave you a fist bump recognizing your channel on your shirt. It was awesome to meet you in person. Excited to see what your up to next!
You are human, you are awesome and more importantly an inspiration to me and many others. Thats because you are unapologetic you! Loving your positivity. ❤❤ ❤❤❤❤
Ben and Mary, you are inspirational to so many people. I have just run my first marathon because I started watching your channel a few years ago and it made want to run a marathon. My time was not what I wanted because of a knee injury but just finishing a marathon is a achievement every time you can do it.
Thank you so much for this!! Tomorrow I’m trying yet another marathon. I keep getting injured or back out or whatever else. This time I’ve been sick a week. Chest cold and sinuses. I’m going to give it my best tomorrow. No regrets
Great job Ben!! I feel like all I've done since Monday is try to lift people's spirits over disappointment the heat caused with people's goals and expectations - and I'm so happy to do it! What an achievement running in these conditions and finishing this race really was!!
"The legs didnt show up today " as you run past a person without legs😄
🤣🤣🤣 no pun intended.
That was amazing timing!
I had to go back and watch that, that’s so funny
I noticed that right away. Glad I wasn't the only one.
5:57 lol
To blow up and still drop a a sub3 is a testament to years of hard work. Congratulations!
I also felt blown up but i dont think i could have faced it any better. Boston is a beast
Way to gut it out, my friend!! Amazing run. Amazing person.
Ahh thanks dude. We feel the same about you. Tremendous to have finally met you and can’t wait for Chicago (and your Boston vid obvs!)
Love all your videos This Messy Happy and enjoyed your whole series Eric Floberg. Great job to all!’n

Also thanks for showing your brief walking break. I felt I'd failed when I had to walk/run the last 10k of Brighton. It's made me reevaluate my run.
Thanks so much. There’s no failures in a marathon! Making it to the start line is the victory 😊
You weren't alone walking the last 10km of Brighton. There were a lot of fallen soldiers out there...
@@olliec1319 I've learnt a couple of lessons off the back of it.
Ben, this was tense. I literally felt my own HR rising as I watched you! But brother, you pulled it back from the brink! Tears at the end of this one mate. Well done!!
Congratulations!! The hard earned ones are always the most noteworthy. Well done!
Congrats Ben - you are amazing and your perseverance is both admirable and inspirational. Absolutely loved the Boston daily diaries. Final episode to go….bring it home Mary!

Showing true character in the trenches 💪
Congrats on finishing and gutting it out. Well done sir.
Congrats Ben - it's been a pleasure following along, you're an inspiration

Well done mate! Absolute joy
Love the summary, Ben. What a unique challenge the marathon is!
"The courage to try" amazing! 😊
Well done Ben, digging deep is life defining.

That is still a fantastic time in my mind. One that I (and many others) can only dream of. Great running!

Well done Ben and Mary
I ran Manchester marathon last weekend. The last couple of minutes of this video gave me goosebumps, easy to forget what goes into it. Amazing.
"The courage to try" Great work sticking it out!
Yes congrats!!
Amazing achievement Ben well done!
Amazing effort mate, awesome 🎉
Great Job - Class 1 is proud of you both. One day I might experience Boston myself but I have my work cut out for me.
Let’s go 💯 K! Loved this journey guys. You and Mary are Awesome.
Well done to you both 🎉🥳
Off days suck, well done for sticking it out with grim resolve.
Inspiring video! Thank you for making it.
Enjoying the journey is key! The goal should not be prioritised too high. Not only in running but in life in general. Well done!!!
Well done you both
Excellent job! Thank you for continuing to teach and motivate me as I train for my first marathon!
Amazing from you both! Congrats 🎉💪
