Nearly 2 yrs ago, I watched a video from the Netherlands on Freisan Horses, and one of the horses foal died. The next day, someone brought over an orphan foal. The mare that lost her baby, smelled that foal the moment it came out of the trailer. She was stomping her feet and was just so excited. They brought the foal to her and she almost could not contain herself. It was love at first sight. This was just so beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Yes I still follow that site. The mare was Uniek and the chestnut orphan is now 2 years old and is so beautiful. She loved that foal from the minute he got out of the Trailer. He loved her too.
I don’t feel special i don’t feel I did anything that anybody else wouldn’t have done faced with the same sad circumstances. The foster mother is truly special. I wish we could keep her here for life and care for her but she is borrowed which is sad because we love her
Thank you she got very, very lucky to find such an incredible mum that loves her so much, she went through a tough patch and is thriving so much now in her care.
@@ckswat77zz51 I wish I could keep her as a surrogate mother as she is so special, sadly not my mare to keep but I will ask the owner if he is ever selling her to come to us first
@@BehindTheStableDoor oh. I just assumed she was yours. Hopefully the owner understands what a gift she has & allows her to be a surrogate. Or better yet, sell her to you!🐴❤️
They really do! The mother is so protective of her and the foal refused all attempts at bottle feeding when she lost her mum so we were really struggling before she came along
A while back I watched a Bondi Vet show from Australia. A foal was born but it's mother died. One of the vets knew someone that had a mare who had lost her foal. In order for the mare to accept foal the vet put some of the mare's urine and bowel movement onto the foal so the mare would smell her oder on the foal. But the vet and owners had to keep watch to make sure the mare would accept the foal which she did. Happy trails to you and God bless.
We spent a few days with them chatting over a wall and not sleeping in together and eventually the mare smelt her like she was her own and then fell totally in love. We did nothing else but give her space and time and allow her to decide if she wanted to be a mum to our foal. Now she will not let her out of her sight. We can take no credit it’s all just the mares kind nature that has accepted the foal without question.
@@BehindTheStableDoor it’s a beautiful ending, terrible to lose the Mum, but so wonderful that the other mare decided she wanted to be this Foals Mum, gorgeous photos with the Mum’s head on the Foal and then the Foal doing it to her new Mum. Beautiful.

Right ! Coincidently I had just seen that video. With out placenta, the Freisan mare still accepted the aqha colt. Wonderful that mare and foal get along.
I believe after suckling for a few days the foal starts to smell like the mare then she is content to take her. We used nothing only a bit of space and time for them to get acquainted and the mare just fell in love on her own. It really depends on the mare, some are just desperate to give love and this is definitely one of those mares. I wish we could keep her forever she’s a very special ❤️
