Ladies, gentlemen, mancs. This month marks a momentous milestone: the 20 year anniversary of Ricky, Steve and Karl. Their first broadcast together went out on XFM in Sep 2001, and we’ve been falling asleep to them ever since. Did you ever think you’d be listening obsessively to a 20 year old radio show? And will we still be doing so in another 20? Long live RSK!
And where’s Dr Fox now?? Is anyone listening to his inane - same old, same old shite - 20 years later?? It’s a rhetorical question! I know the answer is no! And Steve laughed when the producer of the Radio 2 Christmas specials said ‘people might want to listen again’.
I’m from a rural former-confederate area in the US. I can’t remember how or why (it was when I forced myself to listen to different perspectives) and I was HOOKED! Ricky was a big fan of Opie & Anthony (ft. Jim Norton) and he fit in well with them. It’s the show where he said “this is the greatest job/show ever! It’s not work it’s just funny guys hanging out and bullshitting”. There’s a podcast called “The Chip Chipperson Podacast” and he did a little bit for it that was hilarious, and Gervais mentioned how good it was. This, Stern, O&A, Ron and Fez, podcasts like Hollywood Handbook, Chip Chipperson, Bonfire, Comedy Bang Bang, You Know What Dude, are the last bastions of this type of show.
I'm an italian guy that just found by pure chance a small 1 minute animated clip of Ricky, Karl and Steve. Intrigued and amused, i clicked on the next one, and the next one. Then i discovered that there was a whole show with 20 minutes long animated episodes. I devoured all 3 seasons of the animated series in a couple of days. By then i fell in love with the 3 of them, and discovered the Karl tv shows and this XFM series. So i'm now watching An Idiot Abroad for the first time (currently watched the first two episodes) and i just started listening to this series. I can't get enough of Karl and the way Ricky and Steve interact with him. I'm so glad i stumbled across them and i'm now a big fan!
I suffered depression for 10 years and I accidently came upon these shows on xfm.id never laughed more at anything in my whole life.i started looking forward to Saturday afternoons.probably the highlight of my week.thank you Ricky,Steve and of course Karl.and now I can listen whenever.
Congratulations, you reading this has just changed your life. I suffered from depression for 16 years... Then one day I woke up and it was gone. I am the proof depression isn't forever. 16 years of a way, suddenly gone for no reason at all. I got lucky. I hope you do to.
I remember listening to this on my way to school, doing my GCSEs. I'm now 25, living in my own flat and working full time. Nothing changes. I just wish I could erase my memory and listen to it all for the first time again
Haha. That is great. Well done you! I have listened to them through sad times and back to happy times and they help me cope. They keep me company when I go to give my horses hay at 3am on a cold morning. They keep me company while cleaning stalls, cooking, shopping etc
Been listening to these since I was 17 & I’m 28 now. Amused at Ricky saying ‘I wouldn’t want to wind you up in to a frenzy’ and then thinking about the years that followed.
I vaguely remember working in a kitchen in London, on potwash, listening to Ricky, Steve and Karl. Looking back, I had no real problems and the carefree nature of these shows perfectly reflects how I felt at the time. I have more challenges these days but listening back, I'm gladly transported to washing dirty dishes in a restaurant.
If I was to ever meet Ricky, Steve or Karl, I'd love to show them the comments on this TH-cam channel. The countless number of people commenting on how many times they've run through this series, or the weird subculture of people that fall asleep listening to the podcasts. I just think it's a great community and one that they could look at and feel proud of how much they have influenced people's lives. Thanks Man Moth
Ollie H-A They’d be slightly horrified and laugh at you. So, I wouldn’t recommend telling them “I’m part of this group of people that listen to you over and over again.”
4:18 Karl: "But I look normal." Interesting how this is so early in their relationship that Ricky and Steve don't even pick up on the fact that this is an insult about Steve's looks. 😂 One season later, Ricky would start stirring right away after that comment.
I'm leaving this comment as I start from the beginning once more!! 😂😍 Cannot count how many times I've listened through these shows, podcasts, specials etc.. I'll find this comment once I've done another rotation. See you soon folks! Night night!
Might be a bit late for you, but I have a channel where I'm posting Adam & Joe XFM shows, from when they started to cover for Ricky, Steve & Karl in 2003 through to 2006, I'm currently at late 2005. They are very funny, a very different style to RSK but some lol moments. I've listened to RSK and A&J on a loop most days for a good 10 years now! A&J helps to lengthen the loop! Hello everyone just want to say its nice to see you all again back at the start, as a fellow fan for 20 years I would like to say I think the reason we love listening to these is because Ricky, Steve and Karl are like Misfits, at the time they were doing the shows XFM was like the teenage angst station, alternative and different and these 3 were just 3 ordinary blokes nothing to gain, nothing to lose, sure Ricky and Steve wrote the office but apart from that they were genuine. Ricky was a man who dropped out of alot and just did what he liked, Steve was the nerdlinger that no one would hang out with and Karl was the odd northerner we can relate too on occassion. What I'm trying to get at is that we enjoy the shoddyness of the show format because thats reality to us and we can laugh at the tripe that they come out with like mates in a pub. I will end this by saying I am glad Man Moth uploaded these shows, it brings us all together, some of us are lonely, some of us sleep and some work to these shows.
For some reason I come back to this podcast every year around Sept-ish time and listen throughout winter. It’s like listening to old friends talk and even the comments have a strong sense of community lol. Brings me real comfort in a time of year that can be pretty shitty
I discovered them in like 2005 on accident online. I regularly go back and listen through all the xfm shows, podcasts specials everything. Still as funny to me today as they were almost 20 years ago. Rockbusters forever
Clearly you don't actually understand Ricky at all... He doesn't like offending anyone which is true, but when he does he doesn't give a shit. There is a massive difference.
"Karl, I'm glad you brought this up. Because, for me, a lightweight frothy entertainment show on a Saturday afternoon is exactly the place where I want to discuss the desperate, lonely future that's inevitably coming my way." 🤣🤣🤣
I tend to do all the XFM shows , then the special ones like the NME and fame and podfather ones or radio 2 stuff , then Ricky's guide too's , a few compilations , then back to xfm
It's all thanks to one guy (Richard Hare) who recorded and preserved these shows- XFM had a policy of literally just throwing away recordings at the time so we wouldn't have any of the XFM stuff if it wasn't for him!
So does that mean that Mr. Hare just wasn't able to record the first few weeks and the beginning of this hour? Tantalizing to think there's more out there
@@absinthe_apostle I've always wanted to her Karl speak for the first time and how it went down. I'm sure there was a funny conversation or two there lol

I'm not so sure about that. After watching the Ricky Gervais show a few times, this honestly seems pretty dull and aimless. Yes, I know the Ricky Gervais show spliced parts from different episodes into a certain theme, but this kind of feels like they're winging it. It's enough to drive a man mad, searching for those lost shows.
Seems like a lost cause. 😔
You want them? Then pay me.
I ain't giving you something that's worth gold for free.
1st time for me !! Watched The Ricky Gervais Show x 2 and now in lockdown i’ve got all these to enjoy 😊😊
Welcome to the endless cycle

I can't believe its 20 years since this
Hes done it again, hes done you again...
Anyone else use these these podcasts as a way to help with their anxiety? Past 3-4 years I've listened everyday and I honestly don't know what I'd do without them
“I wouldn’t really want to wind you up to the point of frenzy.”
Thankfully Ricky didn’t stick to that.
4th time around. Honestly, best radio show ever. Too bad there are a few episodes before this one that have no known recordings. I hope someday someone finds them.
in this episode when Ricky says he wouldn't want to properly wind karl up LOL how things changed!!
I can't even count how many times I've listened. still a legend man moth
“I really wouldn’t want to wind you up to a point of frenzy” … Ricky definitely changed his mind there.
Thanks for putting all these up. I've listened to all of them - back in the day - all the way through, twice, and I'm certain to do that again.
This must be my millionth time around, every single night 365 days a year. I love it
Thank You Man Moth!.....Please never delete these
Today is the 20th anniversary of this show!
Restarting again from beginning January 2022. Past few months I've worked through the 'podcasts', specials etc before looping back to the start. Happy new year 🥳🎉
“Steve just back announce that for us”… here we go again!
It’s been a little over a year and several go rounds, and I can’t imagine life without these, but I’ve never timed how long it takes, so cheers mates
Jesus. That only took 3 months. Oh well, here we go again, lads.

I first watched the ricky gervais show in like 2012, now I've discovered all this on youtube and ik its gonna be a wild ride
Here we are again, lads. One more time around the sun.
Just want to say that despite the current wave of new TH-camrs trying to make a quick buck or some recognition in uploading these XFM shows. Man Moth has been here the whole time with the entire back catalogue. Man Moth forever!
Goodnight fellow Dilkingtons
I put it in the Bin
"I wouldn't really like to wind you up to a point of frenzy..."
What a great opening for Ricky and Karl.
A foreshadowing of things to come.
Time to listen again...
I’ve listened to the entire series of shows dozens of times over the years and I can’t wait to start all over again. Even got some new material this time with series 0 which I’d never heard but always suspected existed somewhere. Fantastic
Steve’s response to Karl’s dig is brilliant
I've lost count of how many times I've gone through the XFM saga.
Here I go again.
Back for another round 😂
I do love the high-speed banter between Ricky & Steve
