      Hey, I enjoy your channel. I was interested in trading and found your first futures video. After a few weeks of practice I started with tradovate and the nasdaq micro. I started with a 400 account, 1 or 2 contracts, and lost $170 in 3 days. I took a break for a few days and tried some other things, ended up losing another $40 and called it quits. This was a few weeks ago. Some things I learned was its easy to laugh off loses in the demo account. real money hurts. But I did become a better trader because of losing real money. What I'm mostly mad about is before I started I was going to stop if my account got to $300, and I didn't. I'm still taking a break but want to try again. This time I will be in the demo account for awhile. Watching this latest video, is pretty much a copy of what I did. Looking forward to your next.

      Your trading plan should have a take profit system. And should be a fixed risk reward bro, I’d suggest amending a fixed 1:2 risk reward and follow it consistently. (Risk 1% of equity for a 2% gain)

    • @ZLHo-pg4hc
      @ZLHo-pg4hc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I personally set 2-3 take profit level for each trade in order to protect profits. e.g. TP1 swing high/low, TP2 fib extension 1:1, TP3 fib extension 1:1.618 something like that.
      Hope it helps

    • @cristoferjimenez8126
      @cristoferjimenez8126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZLHo-pg4hc that’s good but don’t you have a standardised risk reward? Like as a minimum requirement for your capital to be at risk for a potential reward? (It’s dependant on your win rate I know) also how much of your protective profits you take? Do you take the first partials at 20 or 10% of your current on going trade?

    • @rishiramchandani8534
      @rishiramchandani8534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cristoferjimenez8126 hey bro, in terms of a fixed RR ratio, i would only set a minimum as you suggested for a trade to actually be taken and be following my system. For example if my minimum RR was 1:3 I would only take trades that offer a 1:3 RR. As far as taking profits along the way tho, I’m not too sure how Thomas takes his, but think of it as paying yourself rather than a protective take profit, many trades usually just divide the amount of TPS they are taking by 100%. So if I take two TPs I take 50% at each and etc. But this is dependent on your risk appetite.

    hey man as a day trader I wanted to recommend using bigger time frames and then narrowing down the time frame for more precise entries. Also holding positions for an hour or two can be very profitable. I would also say you're too focused on the money. banks generally give you a 6% interest rate per year if you can get 120 profit once a month you'd be at 144%. Look for longer term trades. Also a good day trader doesn't trade everyday. Hope this was productive. super great video!! excited for the next one.

    Daniel, nice video. Good on you for recognizing where your mistakes were and not just blaming the market like a lot of us do. I still like to blame Powell for everything whenever he does his speeches though. Overtrading on the micros is definitely a good way to destroy a small account. One of the things I found that helped me was in using higher time frames. I've programmed my own strategies at this point, tailored to individual instruments and timeframes because I'm a nerd that way, so for the most part I'm on autopilot. Mostly I stick to MES and MCL. Absolutely terrible at MGC though, haven't figured out a way that I like to trade that yet.

    A tip,
    Look at higher time frames, find supply and demand zones with those higher time frames (a “resting candle” before a big run up or down)
    Wait for prices to get back in that zone, go to a lower time frame, find a good spot to put a stop and then scalp that if you like and maybe hold runners for a larger move (since it’s seems you like to scalp)

You will die quickly hoping for a turnaround on a loser. But fear of losing does make you lock up winners too soon. That's the one I struggle with the most. And maybe the most frustrating is when I hesitate to enter and watch it do exactly what I expected. That hurts ! this is so relatable as a new trader. the bouncing, the over trading, taking too big losses, bad entries. uff. this one i feel 100%!! ive had to learn to keep my stops extremely tight. ive put in the endless hours of learning zones, price action, retests/pullbacks/ trend trading, consolidation, vwap, ema, volume, mastering fear, anxiety, etc etc etc and im getting way better. and with tradovate its a good idea to pay for the commission free account. those rates will wreck you

    One tip, work on risk management. Your overall plan is good. But you must set a level where trades will automatically close. This will avoid taking big hits when trades go in the opposite direction. Try 1% risk per trade

    It takes a tremendous amount of time and effort to turn the corner trading futures. At some point in the journey the psychological aspect will be one of the biggest hurdles. You have to become hyper aware of how you're feeling at all times and nip it in the butt before it becomes a big issue. Journaling how you feel is important. Then you find patterns in what's bothering you. Get into a meditative state and start to relive the trades that bother you. It's better when the emotion is fresh. Like if you get stopped multiple times in a row and you feel the pressure. Reliving stressors like this in a calm state of mind helps the subconscious mind associate these triggers with being calm. This method has been used with people who have PTSD. Also when you're tilted the blood is flowing away from the part of the brain that makes logical decisions, but how can you stop if you're not aware?! These practices I mention take a long time to start to see the benefits. Humans aren't designed for trading. We're not wired for it. I tell my traders especially the new guys it will take years to get consistent. At least a year of hard work. Problem is most people don't know what they're getting into when they do this, and don't know what kind of work they should even be doing in the first place. Trading and being done for the day will not cut it.
    Also reviewing trades in hindsight is not helping. You have a plan and you need to make sure you're executing the plan. Sometimes good setups fail. Trade management will never be perfect. You have to learn to be okay with it. It also takes a long time to be able to hold trades instead of cutting them too soon. You're panicking out because of a lack of confidence. It may be do to the fact you're not taking setups with edge. Even if you hand a trader a setup with edge. They can screw it up and it wont work for them, and it all comes back to mental framework. If that mental framework is not being worked on and you don't develop specific solutions for specific issues this will not work. The cold hard truth, is this is a very brutal career path. Anyone that tells you otherwise is full of it. Options is a great way for people to trade who don't want to put in the countless hours to becoming an outright trader. However that even has it's own risks if you don't comprehend them.

    Always be quick and aggressive. Don't wait for profits, cut on profit and move to the next trade. If you must purchase high shares to incorporate fees then go with 25 and 50 shares on anything that falls under a pinksheet list, then 10 to 20 shares on high cap stocks "bluesheets" though trading is highly risky and you must except your losses
