I have been using HelloFresh for a year and I like it. I wasn’t used to the smaller portion sizes but I got used to it eventually and I’ve been losing weight so that’s a plus.
@@Cub__ for the 3 meals for 2 people plan about $63. So about $10.50 per meal per person. It's not too bad compared to eating out with fast food around $8 a meal and "affordable" restaurants $13-15 a meal. If you shop smart at grocery stores you can get similar ingredients for less and that can be good if you want to remake recipes from Hello Fresh. I also like it for pushing me out of my meal routine and to be prepared to cook with little effort so I eat out less.
Yeah I got a great deal the first week but felt it was way too expensive for the little amount of food I felt I was getting at regular prices. Plus for me it didn't have enough variety for things I like to eat.
My girlfriend and I did hello fresh for a while but were incredibally unhappy with it. Multiple times they forgot ingredients, including things that were essential for the dish. We often would get not enough ingredients, and would end up with things like enchiladas that didn’t even have enough sauce to coat one in the pan. The final straw was that every week for some reason they kept raising the price, putting it out of our budget. We couldn’t afford to spend $100 a week on 5 meals, when they’d end up having missing ingredients or not looking anything like the picture.
The pricing thing was most likely that you joined the service on a promotion, which saves you money over the first like 5 boxes. Then they are priced regularly. I could very well be wrong but a suggestion. The other stuff is stupid and I am hoping that doesn’t happen to me because I am trying them out :(
The truth is, if you go to a grocery store and cook, you will save lots of money. This is basically for people who don't like to cook, can't cook or don't have time a lot of time. It's healthier than fast food but that isn't saying much. It's aimed at a younger audience with a good salary, single or a couple and not for people that have kids.

Good review. I currently use Home Chef and wanted to see a thorough and unbiased review on Hello Fresh to see if it's worth the switch. Thank you for showing the prices and explaining the portion size! Home Chef is essentially the same price and portion size so don't expect any huge servings with them either. Thanks again!
Ok so I actually got Hello Fresh after my original comment. I’m on my second delivery, and HOLY WOW, there is so much plastic bag waste. Yes the box, ice pack, and insulating bag can be recycled/reused, but idk what to do with all the bags my individually wrapped carrots came in.
Seems like a pretty good service if you want convenience in minimal prep gourmet meals, but those prices are outrageous. Still can’t beat cost & convenience in a crock pot, although those meals aren’t “gourmet”.
I'm finishing up my 5 week Hello Fresh experiment, a couple last things to make left here. Trying to vary up foods to give them my own honest review. Although I've been going heavy on Tex Mex and on vegetarian. Packing waste... yes, a problem. Meal sizes... All except brunch today, I was able to get the two meals from the servings allotted, without adding on anything extra other than say, a yogurt beverage. (Today's Salmon in Dijon Chive Sauce with roasted zucchini and potato wedges - I inhaled both servings at once.) I live alone. I think this is worthwhile to use as an occasional thing. And my nearest supermarket is 35 minutes away, so it is good to have something to hand. I am stopping this service for now.... in part because maybe in a month I want to test out Green Chef.

I agree with you on the packaging .... there is too much. I felt guilty when I got my box -- only first box so far. But, on the other hand there is some packaging when I go the market, and a lot of stuff I end up throwing away or composting. My ice packs were a lot bigger than the ones you had ... and heavier too. They told me to cut open a corner and pour the ice solution into a trash bag. That's kind of creepy. BUT, I have to admit, I have had 3 really great meals, ( one of them, today's, was the Crispy Buffalo Spiced Chicken with Carrots and Potatoes ) another one of leftovers tomorrow, and the first one was a burger and it was good. Simple prep with no waste and no thinking and no shopping involved. My only quibble was there was a lot of cream, mayonnaise, potatoes ( everything had potatoes in it so far ), but on the plus side I made mashed potatoes for the first time today and it was really great. I'm liking it because it saves me from those impulse buys and junk food and eating to much. There is a lot of cleanup or pans and little bowls.
