  • Testing out Hello Fresh dinners for 4 days + unboxing and taste test. I'm cooking each meal and giving my honest review. Is it worth it? Is it kid-friendly? Is it easy? Does it taste good? How hard is it to build a box? Were the ingredients fresh? Would I buy it again? Plus, how I fed my family of 6 with a 4 serving box.

    I’ve been using HelloFresh the past few months and I love it. I don’t have kids, I just cook for myself so I use the 2 serving plan. I eat one serving for dinner and save the other for lunch the next day. Works really well and it has helped me not be so tempted to order Doordash every other day, which can get expensive :) So far there hasn’t been a single meal I haven’t liked! And many of the meals I’ve made from them are meals I wouldn’t necessarily have made on my own, not because I am picky (I’m not a picky eater) but because I wouldn’t have thought of it on my own.

    • @DanielleLaShawn
      @DanielleLaShawn  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Did you really save money though. If i want to eat at least twice a day, usually 3, its going to cover all of that? It says $129 a week for 6 meals a week, which is $516 a month for supposedly 2 people, to have one meal a day. Seems crazy

    • @straightbrutality9264

      How are you saving money? Do you mean for just dinner? I looked online, and for 6 meals a week, obviously not covering one day, for 2 people is $516 a month. That still doesn’t account for breakfast, lunch, and all the basic ingredients it doesn’t come with(oil,salt, seasonings,etc;) i am generally curious how you save money?

  • @ideedeevg

    I just gave Hello Fresh a try and it’s the end of my first week.
    1. I have a super picky mother that eats like a 5 year old. So I have been able to choose meals that she likes and she devours.
    2. There is a huge variety. I’m Cuban and recently I’m just tired of cooking the same stuff and really wanted to expand my meals. 10/10. Because the day I miss my black beans and traditional style I can make them on Sundays. Also Cuban dinners take quite long sometimes.
    3. So FREAKING QUICK. I take a couple of mins to go ove the instructions that are literally dummy proved. Within 20-30 mins my dinner is ready. Funny I made these burgers yesterday and they were 🔥
    4. I don’t have to think. It motivates me to cook other things. I don’t have to spend a lifetime walking through the isles to find all the ingredients I would need for stuff I’m not used to making. Open, chop it all up, cook it.
    5. So cheap and it helps the portion control. Many times I over buy stuff I end up throwing away and it’s incredible how the meals are filling and they have cracked the portions to the T. So I spend triple the amount of money at the market. Also I have a business and many times I couldn’t make it to the groceries store and I would find myself doing so much Uber. What I paid in just two Ubers literally pays for a whole weeks worth.
    This is amazing. Love it

    • @DanielleLaShawn
      @DanielleLaShawn  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with everything you said. Convenience costs money, and it's worth the price tag to save yourself time and the money you would have spent on food that went to waste. And if you're trying to cook a meal you don't normally cook, the ingredients add up QUICKLY at the grocery store. 100% agree with your assessment. ❤

      @@DanielleLaShawn I don't think kids are really that picky. I hear that a lot but I think it's just that they don't have really developed palates yet. My kids are adults but I never made them eat something they didn't like and now I have one healthy eater, one semi healthy eater and one that doesn't know what a vegetable or fruit is. Once my daughter left a strawberry in her bowl. I said why don't you just eat that. She said because I'm full. All 3 of mine are like that. They won't eat a bite over when they are full and all 3 are slender. I would have never left that as I was taught to eat everything on my plate or else. As a result, I struggled with obesity. I'm no longer obese but forcing food on me sure didn't help.
      Thanks for your review. Just wanted to let you know that your kids sound very normal to me and most likely will increase their variety of foods as they get older.

    I've been trying several boxed meals before and it's been interesting knowing how to cook new food items , fresh vegetables and spices and learning techniques, incredibly low cost and having great ingredients quality so far ! People who think it's expensive come to our place and see how expensive food is getting in rural Canada ... 79$ per week ( HelloFresh) is nothing when we usually spend 450$ per week. It's life saving, convenient, amusing & you can keep the recipes to make them later 😄🙌🏼 Very excited to start another journey 🍔

    Great review Danielle, this is exactly how we feel about the Hello Fresh in our home. The only complaint i can honestly give is the instructions are a bit "chaotic" but the outcome is ALWAYS delicious and worth the effort. One thing you didn't mention is if you do stick with the program they really make it worthwhile with all of the discounts, rewards and referral coupons you earn every week, especially with the cost of groceries being so high, and there is virtually no waste food-wise because you are given exactly what you need to make perfectly proportioned meals, some of which are even a bit more on the generous side. This is definitely worth trying out. After a few months of testing the difference between ordering both 2 and 4 serving meals, 3 and 5 times a week, we have settled into the routine of ordering the 3 meals a week for 2 people which is plenty for our family (2 adults and one child) We found 4 portions to be too much for us, unless of course you are interested in having leftovers for lunch the next day.

    • @DanielleLaShawn
      @DanielleLaShawn  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! The food waste isn't a big issue for us which is why I probably didn't mention it. As a stay at home mom I prefer to have leftovers so that, for me, is a downside.

    My dad recently had a stroke and I can’t cook for the life of me (I relied on my dad to cook), and I decided to get a box of HelloFresh. Because of the stroke, my dad has a pretty easy diet and my brother usually enjoys anything, so getting their opinion if I should continue the box is difficult because they basically said “if you want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” lol! I like it because I can learn how to cook for myself and family and it feels fun! I usually never cooked because I was scared of messing up, but it makes it super simple and makes me feel confident in wanting to cook more! Lol, I tried to tell y'all everything I could think of. I know it's not cheap and people want to be able to make an informed decision. For prep, you can get away with a cutting board, knife, and maybe a couple of bowls. You can do the baking in an air fryer. That's what I've been doing lately.

      Making a burger is not complicated with any change in Meat type.. but spending the cost that Hello fresh charge when you are making them up yourself any way.
      Most of these meals ended up in an oven which uses a high amount of energy and so cost to use.
      All you really like is the different sauce the item comes with.

      So glad you enjoyed it! And here's a tip: these days I order my hello fresh meals and then just buy extra meat, fish, potatoes, and rice so that I can stretch each meal and use their spice blends and recipes. Doing this, I easily get an extra 2-3 servings per meal. Example: if we're having pork tacos I'll add ground pork, tortillas, and maybe an extra lime and tomato to my grocery list so that I can cook the meal as the recipe states, but end up with a lot more food. I just add extra seasoning.

    • @DanielleLaShawn

      I think it depends on the level of effort you're used to putting into meals, especially people who aren't used to or great at cooking. It's not complicated but there are just multiple things happening at the same time - a lot of multitasking. Someone mentioned doing the prep work in advance and I think that would make a big difference in being able to cook it without feeling overwhelmed; because if you can cook without interruptions that's one thing but if there are kids running around and a lot going on in your house it makes it harder to give your full attention to the simultaneous tasks associated with cooking the meals.

    I love your review! Normally I get bored watching them but this was so real and relatable 🤣 kids arguing and you just get on with it, love it.
    We're in the UK and have just started Hello Fresh. We love it, not having to meal plan and shop for ingredients takes al lot of hassle away from me.
    I do have picky eaters in the house so sometimes tailor their version of the meal such as not putting condiments and seasonings on their portion of food. If they're still not keen I have a stash of convenience meals in just in case. My pickiest eater actually ate an Indonesian curry the other day ☺️ I did have to omit the courgettes but I'm happy he even tried it....he cleared the plate!
    I do have trouble multi tasking, I get flustered lol. I have roped in my other half as my sous chef. He preps all the veggies before I start to cook which he actually enjoys especially as the meals turn out so well so he can say he helped☺️
    If he's busy working I prep the food myself before I start to cook but that's just my preference.
    Thanks for a great review 💕

    This was an incredibly helpful video review for considering to subscribe to the HF service. Thank you! I especially appreciated your honest commentary & insight at the end about how much multitasking & involvement to expect. I'm not good at multitasking but I'm wondering, since I'm a stay at home mom/wife, if some of the steps can be done earlier in the day and set aside till it's time?
    I'm also wondering if since 2 out of 3 of our family are light portion eaters, if the 2 portion meals could be enough? They only offer 2 or 4 portions, not 3.
    Any thoughts on that would be appreciated🤗
    Definitely going to subscribe to your channel. Thanks again!

    • @DanielleLaShawn
      @DanielleLaShawn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could definitely do the prep work in advance and then just throw everything in the oven when it's time to eat.
      The portion sizes are pretty good but idk how many people are in your family all together. If there are more than 3 I'd probably go with the 4 serving meal. I was able to stretch it because 2 of my kids shared one and my toddler just ate off my plate along with some fruit on the side. It might be kind of hard to stretch the 2 serving meals beyond 3 people, but if it's you and 2 kids you'll be perfectly fine with 2 servings.

    Thank you for the review! One recommendation to reduce calories, is to reduce your oils. Since you're using a copper nonstick pan it wouldn't be necessary to re-oil the pain, or put oil on the garlic, etc. One table spoon of any oil is between 110-160 calories. Before your done cooking there is already 300 calories added to the meal just with oil and/or butter. - Of course do what you want, but just wanted to share with whoever reads this. It's a learning curve, but worth it. 💗✌️

    • @DanielleLaShawn
      @DanielleLaShawn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I actually don't tend to use oil at every step they recommend adding it. A lot of times I'll use a nonstick spray instead. Great advice, thanks!
