Hello Fresh is largely how I learned to cook! I had a really good experience with it. Only one time did I have an issue with the box - I didn't have any meat in the box haha. They sent me a new box that came the next day. Once I figured out how to cook, and learned lots of tips and tricks, I began to alter the recipes to suit my tastes. That's when I cancelled it haha.
Sophie, Thank you for your honest review. I've never ordered a meal kit, but this review made me know I don't think I ever will. If I have to do all the work, I might as well pick up my food at the grocery store & bring it home & still prep it all. I appreciate this video.
Thank you Sophie for your honest review! I used Hello Fresh in the past and also found it to be beneficial - I'd say that meal-delivery subscriptions are for a "phase of life." My family started using during the pandemic to minimize grocery store trips and to have meals delivered to my daughter in college out-of-state. I'd also say that meal-delivery subscriptions aren't a replacement or substitution for learning how to cook, but rather a useful tool to learning how to follow a recipe. I too started to notice the repetition in recipes, by changing the protein or switching veggies/seasonings. What I started doing is ordering a variety of meals to save the recipe cards. By the time I had a good collection, I was able to cancel my subscription and shop for ingredients/portions according to the recipe card. I only once had an issue with food packaging (seal on ground beef leaked). They gave me a full credit for the entire box, so that was helpful. Lastly, I think the proximity of the warehouse to my home made a difference in the quality of food. That may be a factor for others if the boxes have to be handled more or travel further distances - especially in warm/summer heat.
When I was working full time and going to school- Hello Fresh saved me. I love to cook but I did not have time to breath let alone shop and cook. As a solo person, I chose 2 (sometimes 3) meals a week for 2 people. That gave me mix and match lunches dinners for several days. I did not have to shop, do major prep, etc. I just tossed everything in a pan on the stove or in the oven. I never had an issue with them and I tried so many new cuisines where I didn't have to spend additional money on spices, etc. For those who are concerned about the environment, everything in my boxes was recyclable. My local stores recycled all of the plastic.
Thanks for the honest review. I tried it and could not deal with all the excessive packaging. It seemed so wasteful. Also, I agree with you in the portion sizes. When I cook, I like to make extra to freeze or for leftovers and Hello Fresh is not for that. I would love for you to try ButcherBox.
I hope you decide to review Factor or another service where the meal is fully prepared and you just heat it up. I'm curious and would love to hear an unsponsored breakdown!
Why would anyone sign up for a service that collects all your info and makes you purchase a "plan" before you can see a single menu item? Without showing you what's in the box? I'll stick to farm shares thanks. At least they're upfront, plus local and actually fresh.
I love meal kits! Makes things easier and gives inspiration when sometimes you are in rut. I started using blue apron in 2016 and have flip flopped between BA and hello fresh until 2023. When you get bored of one you can put it on hold and switch to another. I’ve used other lunch and dinner kits in the past as well just to switch things up. I think it’s worth it if you can afford it and if you want to take the stress out of weekly meals. I would say get the 2 or 3 meals a week and then supplement with home cooked meals.
For someone who loves to cook, and is someone who's concerned about the environment, I'm surprised that you got that delivery service...then there's the cost. I think there's a lot to consider just for the convenience.
Since I'm new to cooking good meals at 40, my only advice for hello, fresh users is that you should follow the cooking instructions exactly otherwise, results may vary. Let's just say i'm not very good at following instructions, but still turned out good. Before hello fresh it was mainly pizza and burgers and pasta and a steak once in a while.
I got a free box from some meal kit company a few years ago. I was not impressed. I agree it is good for some seasons of life, though. My niece with small children enjoys them.
Thank you Sophie, I wouldn’t not use this company, how they handle credits and when you had to skip a week, seems it always benefits them. Kinda reminds me of how Kohls cash works, kinda skammy.😂😊
I can’t imagine you or your family liking this as much as your delicious homemade meals..and deserts. How do you and your husband rate the taste of the meals you have had from 1 being great and 10 being horrible? 🤔

What's the difference vs going to the Farmers Market. Besides how long all that in box last❓

For ppl that are saying it saves time, you need to meal prep. Food is so expensive, its crazy to pay more

For me, meal kit delivery service is a definite NO!
I choose to spend my money wisely.
I agree completely

When u said mouldy i said he’ll no to hello fresh sounds gross
I have been using for 4 years and have never had anything moldy.
@ thanks! When she said mouldy I was just like hell no!!! Maybe she left it a week or didn’t receive on time. context matters!
Expensive, mold, lots of packaging -- what a waste of time and money.
