    What is your favorite Chinese food? And what do you like to do for Chinese New Year?

      shrimp chow fun, dim sum (shrimp rice noodle, har gow), clams w/black bean sauce. If there weren't this pandemic, I would be going out to Las Vegas and celebrating at a Chinese restaurant in the Chinatown there.

      My favorite is Char Siu Bao, or manapua. I must go to Sing"s to get them next time. Also the Jin Dui, or Chinese deep fried sesame seed mochi doughnut, and of course the har gaw, or pork hash. Not sure if I spelled everything correctly, sorry if I did. Aloha!

    Hey Charles, you might want to buy one of those trays that fits into your steering wheel. You then have a flat service, not seen on camera right in front of you to place those gravy generous plate lunches. Folks in RV's, Vans, etc use them. They are sturdy and inexpensive. Love this $10 Chinatown tour.

      Thank you I really appreciate your support! You know that is really a good question. I love poke bowls like no other. For the longest time I was going to Ahi Vegetable, then Maguro Brothers, and then Keeamoku Seafood, now its Off the Hook Poke. I really enjoyed Kahiau Poke so that might be my next go to spot. But I think over all in terms of price, quality, and taste I might say Keeamoku Seafood. But if money was no issue I'd go maguro brothers cause I really love their spicy tuna and they got all the sashimi and other stuff too! How about you? what is your favorite poke spot?

    you want cold ginger chicken with NOT a lot of bones? Go to B & L Drive In in Waipahu (same bldg as Elena's Filipino Restaurant)...their regular plate with two scoops of rice and one scoop of mac sald is $8.25! Their mini plate would be $6.75 ! The ginger sauce is not salty...meats are breast meat, and sometimes wings...really not a lot of bones ! First place that I did appreciate eating cold ginger chicken plate lunch, as I always think about the lots of bones i have to take off when eating at a Chinese Restaurant/Chop Suey. At 14:40 mark, you are passing iconic Char Sung Hut that sells manapua and pork hash, half moon, etc...how come you didn't go there too and compare it to the viewers to show why Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery is better. How about Royal Kitchen - famous for their baked manapuas? Gotta have a showdown comparison among these three iconic manapua places !

    • @AuthenticallyCharles

      Thank you so much for the support! I will check out B & L Drive In for their cold ginger! That really is a deal. I actually just tried the cold ginger at New Queen Barbeque on Queen street, had a good amount of meat no bones. But certain parts of the chicken was kinda dry. Unfortunately I think Char Hung Sut closed down for good. Everytime I walk by when I'm in chinatown the doors are closed. Last time I saw them open was before covid. I do love Royal Kitchen manapua I just might have a show down between the two! thank you for the suggestion. Mahalo for all your support!

Also, I agree, I don't like when take out food that has a lot of liquid ends up leaking all over inside of the plastic bag :( Also, when it comes to poke, this might be a strange question to ask, but if you don't eat raw fish, do they have poke that uses tofu or cooked fish? Mahalo!

    • @AuthenticallyCharles
      @AuthenticallyCharles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paula, thank you so much for the questions and support! and Happy Chinese New Year! Some places that sell manapua do have chicken versions or vegetarian versions of it. Your best bet is Royal kitchen in the Chinese Cultural Plaza. I know for sure they have chicken and vegetarian manapuas. Some other places might be a hit or miss especially if they aren't a specialty manapua shop.
      Regarding the poke. There are vegetarian type poke that I have seen. I've actually tried a tofu poke with sea asparagus that was actually really good! But not many places have a big vegetarian option. In regards to the fish there is a fried fish poke. They are like ahi cubes that are flash seared. Restaurants tend to leave it rare in the middle but you can ask for it to be fully cooked. But you won't find any of the seared ahi at most poke bowl locations. I tend to find them at plate lunch spots as a special of the day. or at a sit down restaurant.
      Hope that helps. If there are any videos or types of restaurants you want to see let me know! Mahalo!
