Thank you Charles for doing this vlog and mentioning me. I like Foodland when I have to grab a poke bowl from a market. If I had a choice, I would always choose Off the Hook because of the freshness and taste. Keep up the good reviews! My wife and use your reviews when we want to try new places.
Maybe for a supermarket poke comparison, you can talk about the freshness and quality of the fish and other ingredients in the poke. You can also talk about prices, the size of the cut/cubing, the varieties available... do they only have ahi? Do they have salmon varieties? Other fish or seafood poke?
Appreciate your honest review, as always. Of the supermarkets you selected, Foodland appears to be best. By the way, congratulations on achieving another milestone - happy to see you reach 2K in such a short time. :)
I found my new favorite place for poke bowl... I went to Domo Café in Chinatown (theres one in Kahala too) and I ordered their Seared Salmon Poke Bowl and OMG, I LOVE IT! I'm not a huge poke person but this place was good. As for supermarket poke, I was told Tamuras is good. I've never had theirs but all the places you went to, I think Foodland was probably the best, then Don Quijote, then Safeway, and last Times.
Foodland. Hands down. I grew up where the nearest grocer is Pali Long's and Safeway, and Time's Supermarket on Liliha st. And den, 'memba Holiday Mart? The Kaheka st. location? As for Pali Safeway as well as locations in PC or Aiea, Ewa, and Beretania, I question their quality on "fresh". I live within walking distance to the remodeled Foodland Farms in Ala's and their fresh pokes are hella pricey but on point!!!
Next time you need to separate, just order quarter pound poke. And side order rice. Comes out the same price as the bowls. And the workers won’t argue with you about splitting it up. I also like my rice separate so it doesn’t cook the poke haah.
Coming from Sacramento, California locally, I just ate Poke from Ala Moana Foodland hours ago in Oahu and it is very good. Spicy California Ahi, Hawaiian Poke is awesome. Staying 8 more nights. Shock my tongue. Better than US mainland. Don Juijote Poke was good also. All fresh.
After eating with you, my next trip will be several of the small local shops. I'm not a meat eater ... but poke / sashimi is a must for me. Keep visiting those local spots ... I am making a list and checking it twice.
Thank you so much for watching! Maguro Bros is pretty awesome too! They got cooked fish too at the chinatown location. and they got a waikiki location but thats only for dinner and no cooked food.
When we go to Hawaii, our auntie lets us use her Maika'i card or phone number so Foodland is the only place we've shopped. Their poke was pretty tasty. I guess I'll avoid those other markets. Thanks for the tip.
It's out of the way, if you live downtown Honolulu/Waikiki area, but try out Nico's Deli @Pier 38, Tamashiro Market & Alicia's Kitchen Express both in Kalihi & Tanioka's Seafood in Waipahu.
I like Tamashiro. After following you, I will go to Sansei Sushi, Maguro Brothers ... and they just keep adding up! Take us everywhere ... I'm ,making a list.
This wasn’t really a poke comparison as it was a spicy ahi comparison. Too bad you didn’t include Sam’s Club in this. The spicy ahi at Sam’s has a lot more heat than the others you compared and they do offer it in a poke bowl. They also allow you to have the fish and rice separately. Also, Costco makes a decent spicy ahi although not in a poke bowl. Whole Foods also does spicy ahi and you can get it as a poke bowl, although I haven’t tried them yet. There’s also Nijiya Market and H Mart...
Sorry it was a bit disappointing. I've always been a fan of Foodland but that is also because it is the closest to my house haha. I do warn you never to try Ninja Sushi poke! That made me so sad haha. I hope you can mix the Foodland and Times poke someday and I hope you got your Venus Flytrap haha. Be careful, they are kind of hard to take care of and even need certain PH water or something like that.
I eat Foodland poke a lot because it’s close to work for me and usually is good enough. It’s also so funny to me that on the mainland you have all these trendy poke stores that sell $20 bowls with ridiculous toppings, while we can just get a simple poke bowl at any grocery store here that probably tastes way better 😂
I totally agree with you. I've never had a poke bowl in the mainland but I will and I will do a review lololol. but yeah all those extra toppings and all that stuff they put on as fillers no good! after reading your comment on foodland poke, I want to go foodland now for the dynamite poke. I think you helped me decide what my lunch will be. Mahalo! Thanks for watching!
Id rather go Grace’s instead of Times poke,..lol,...Safeway,. Never. Foodland probably best of the 3....better to go Tamashiros, keeamoku seafood, youngs, best catch, etc,...
yup foodland is normally where I go for poke if I going to a pot luck or something. I actually really enjoy their spicy ahi dynamite poke. That is good! Thank you for watching!
@@AuthenticallyCharles Yes, we had the spicy ahi last time we were there in 2019 and it was great. Foodland was a quick bus ride from our Waikiki hotel so we stocked up on lots of papayas and other fruit. I can't wait to go back to the Islands. Mahalo!
Who has the best supermarket poke? I'll tell you who...Kahuku Superette. They are dubbed number one in the islands and you should head over to the windward side and check them out. I guarantee you eating their famous shoyu poke will change your mind
Dayumm Hawaii $22/lbs for spicy ahi poke 🤨 here in Vegas my go to are poke express & makai pacific #1 rule for me tho no grocery market poke I like to support local moms n pops 🐟🥢🥑🍋
Yeah it can be crazy expensive here on Oahu. Thanks for the tip. I'll check the places you mentioned next time I go vegas. I miss vegas so much. Thanks for watching!
Yes I would count it. I was just doing more the big chain stores. But at the end of the video I was actually going to say Tamura's wins! hahah But I needed to stay on topic with the 4 I tried. Thanks for watching.
I added the playlist here for you. It is still a work in progress but I got some poke videos here. Thanks for your support! th-cam.com/play/PLk_7FCGALGrVnlUjWbyfJYHThBwE48S6v.html
Safeway the worst, times is ok but. Fishy to me, Foodland if i had to go supermarket,. I go to my favorite at Keeaumoku seafood, better off at a real poke place like tamashiros, youngs, fresh catch, etc
Will do! I've been wanting to check them out for awhile but I keep on missing them cause of my schedule. I saw their food on instagram and it looks broke da mouth! mahalo for the support!
Yea, I would have gotten/paid for the poke and rice separately at Don Quixote's. Disappointing they did that. They suck on customer service for that issue!! Bummers!!
Which supermarket do you think has the best poke bowl? And where do you usually go to get your poke bowl at?
I think you liked food land best
Foodland all da way 🤙🤙🤙
Times and don Quijote the same bro they bought it out cause I work for times
times...KUNIA!
Tamura's Waianae, they sell-out most everyday...
Thank you Charles for doing this vlog and mentioning me. I like Foodland when I have to grab a poke bowl from a market. If I had a choice, I would always choose Off the Hook because of the freshness and taste. Keep up the good reviews! My wife and use your reviews when we want to try new places.
Me too! Off the Hook is my absolute fave!
It depends who’s making the POKE! At every store they have different people making the poke daily. So, enjoy if you’re hungry for FISH. 😋😋

I remember Holiday Mart and Daiei! Man I feel old... Awesome video, I agree specialty stores are much better than supermarket poke.
Thanks for watching!
Great video Charles! My friends eat poke bowls all the time. Foodland poke bowls are probably the best but you gotta get all the toppings on it.
I love the Poke bowls at Neiman Marcus in Ala Moana, it's the best I had so far.
Tamura's King Crab garlic poke bowl winner winner chicken dinner... Keep up da good work Charles!
Oh yup King Crab Garlic Poke at Tamura is for sure the winners! Mahalo for the support!
My favorite grocery store poke was always Aina Haina or Pupukea Foodland. They both had a good poke to rice ratio...
I already guessed farms, but ya depends which one u get. Glad u like spicy. I like the reg non mayo spicy, great vid brotha!! 🤙
Foodland.

I prefer Foodland's Poke between these 4. Thanks Charles.
Yup i could easily finish 2lbs spicy ahi in just one sitting.
Tamuras fresh fish everyday, Alicia's market get awesome poke as well🤙🏽
I think Foodland would be the better ones for a supermarket. But I prefer Tamura's for a non-restaurant poke bowl. 😊
I took one for the team! hahaha Tamura's for the win!
@@AuthenticallyCharles Yes for sure! But thank you for taking one for the team, kind Sir! At least your deadcat mic enjoyed it! 🤣
@@AuthenticallyCharles COLLABORATION!
I hope I spelled it correctly. You two are the best.
Aloha, Charles
You should've went to Tamura's I like the poke there. They only use fresh ahi. So good! Out of the four you tried I like Foodland.
Thats really interesting they all were affordable but needed more flavor profile..i guess its best to eat when you go home to add more flavor..thanks
yup I agree can make it better with some extra ingredients from home. Mahalo for watching.

Charles, zoomed but you have a nice complexion (lol). For super's, I like Times but it depends on location.
hahaha thanks I appreciate it! I agree the locations all kinda differ depending on the person making it. Mahalo for the support!
Very helpful thanks!!
Tamura's in Aiea was always my favorite when I lived there. But, I think they closed. Which is unfortunate.
I never been to the Aiea location. But you're right its good poke there! I normally go to the kaimuki location. Thanks for watching!
