Gold Prospecting w/ DIY Backpack Mini Dredge - 1.5" pvc nozzle, 1000 GPH Bilge Pump - BEDROCK SNIPER

  • Test run with djpitr's mini dredge. Worked some clay bedrock and found some nice pieces. Dredge works great as a bedrock cleaner upper and can be used to snipe with the smaller pvc attachments. Lightweight and can be hiked in to your gold spot. Low cost - $20 Harbor Freight bilge pump, $5 pvc nozzle, and the only real expense was the battery and hoses.

Each inch you go bigger on the suction hose, the less rock you have to move.. My partner and I got permission to run our environmental dredge on the Sultan river one time at China Gap. We ran 80 ft. of 4 in. PVC pipe up the canyon side at a small
stream, damned it a little and installed a screen. We then ran that to a 4 in. ball valve at the shore line and from there in a flexhose to the eductor on the dredge. We had 40 pounds of pressure all the time and no noise or pollution. The fisheries agent loved it and so did we. We got the gold and no noise to let others know we were down there.

And all this time I've been told "Ohhh NO No... you can't make a proper dredge with PVC and bilge pumps!!! Don't got enough back pressure on the pump....won't work.....yessir....a complete waste of time and effort. You proved them all wrong Pitr. Hell of a build my friend. Can't wait to see your build video of it. I've got a 3700 GPH 12 volt bilge pump sitting in a box that is just screaming to be reincarnated as a "silent stealth dredge". Great job guys!!

Fico bem caros devido as baterias e a bomba .

    SL...Love the video man!
You have some great suction there for a 1.5"
Are your hoses smooth on the inside like a normal dredge hose?
I cannot find those local to me so I'm thinking of using pool hose. They're not perfectly smooth inside and I might lose the flour gold to the inside ridges but I think I'd be able to do a good clean out at the end of the season and recover all of it.
    Your thoughts??

Eriktheprospector Thanks Eriktheprospector! I agree, this mini dredge isn't powerful enough to move much material, but does a good job cleaning bedrock, cracks, etc. We dug a nice hole that day with our shovels and ran the material through the highbanker, once we got onto bedrock, we got out the mini dredge to clean out all the crevices. The mini dredge found some nice pieces that day that the shovels never would of found:-) Thanks for watching, really enjoy your vids, and I hope you keep finding those Cali Nuggets!

problem one. use smooth interior hose from pump to nozzle, the corrugated slows the water down. otherwise, brilliant. this is what i am making, with my own fluid bed type of sluice. 2. put battery in a waterproof container.

That looks wrong to me...? And let me say, I don't claim to have any experience at dredging! But you have the 'Y' junction at the working end of the pipe...? That means twice as much pipe for every increase in pipe length for starters, AND the clutter of having the joint/venturi at the working end? My humble advice would be...don't try to re-invent the wheel. Put the venturi ( 'Y' piece ) up at the sluice and use the extra pipe for more 'reach'. Best of luck to you though and I wish I was out there with you! I'm working on that... ;)

Can you send me a parts list incl. Hose size lenths

I don't have a parts list, but djpitr posted a video (th-cam.com/video/T9h69cvsXpw/w-d-xo.html) that should help with making a mini dredge. There should be some build plans on the internet, try searching "DIY mini dredge". Wish I could help more, all the best in your prospecting journey.
      Thanks for watching!

I've been down the electric pump very small dredge nozzle route before, and ultimately set it aside as a waste of time due to the low volume. I found a simple hand dredge was more effective, lighter, and less bulky. the smallest effective dredge I found was a 1.5in powered by the HF 1in clear water pump. My post of the nozzle design is about the same as his end result also, but my photo's show the parts assemble fully expanded so you can see what they are and how they fit together. the lower the pressure of the pump, the wider the internal jet needs to be. hope this helps.

The ideal electric dredge will become more realistic as battery tech gets better, which will allow the development of better electric pumps. to get better pressure, they need to be stacked in series.

What's max PSI of that pump?

    • @djpitr
      @djpitr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This pumps have really no pressure, u can’t move water up from water level , this can get only bring the material right to to top of water , then u need to dump it to sluice

Nice little dredge but your sluice lost all your gold the entire riffle bed filled with material causing gold to wash right over the top and out the sluice, all you need now is a sluice that can handle that amount of material, either that you need more water volume over that sluice bed, nice dredge all the same :D

Yeah it's very easy to make a little dredge like that nothing to it but you need a to set your sluice box up in a much better setup way too much water it's set up all wrong
