Lure fishing for bass is becoming ever more popular as more and more anglers discover how much fun a lighter and more technical approach to fishing can be. The new Sandeel Pencils are an imitation sandeel designed to cast long distances and to be fished shallow to medium depths. Designed with Henry Gilbey from the ground up to be the perfect lures covering a lot of water quickly. Ideal in estuaries, reefs, rocks, beaches, light surf etc. In this video Henry talks through how he loves to use this lure and the action and techniques to help catch more Sea Bass
Henry is located on a secluded beach in south east Cornwall that can be very productive in surf conditions and Henry reveals plenty of tips and tricks to help bass anglers think about their own fishing.

I orginally left a comment on this vid a few years ago how impressed i was with the sandeel pencil after two years of using it. Two more years on its still my best bass catcher responsible for nearly all my best sessions. I love it wizzed along fairly fast in calm shallow bays, ive had bass launch out the water to grab them. They have also had me loads of seatrout some really decent ones too. If i could pick 1 saltwater lure for the rest of my life it would be this

When working my way through my lures on a session its always the pencil that ends up taking a fish once i put it on, its beyond coincidence after two seasons now of having the same success its now the one that gets clipped on first! Really earned its place, amazing lure.

I bought a sandeeel pencil 90 in classic sandeel colours because I liked the look of it, without having heard of them before, and totally smashed the bass on my first trip out with it. I now also have the black-silver one, and the flourescent green with orange dots... all of them 90s and all of them excellent lures.
Henry is the old English renaissance man we all need.

I’ve been using the in line sand eel with a lot of success this summer 125mm in motor oil colour seems to be the best tight lines all

It's a jig but much more easyer to animate and prospect the water layer. And you can animate this like a surface lure
Nice one, I didn't realise there are 90mm versions, I'm starting to think small is often better.
Yes the 90 has caught a lot of bass recently.

I have the 19g they casts like a bullet. I haven't caught anything with them yet. I'm using a Savage gear salt CSS rod 60g. It feels a bit soft. What rod are you using and what would you recommend for spinning plastics and these sandeels.?

Great looking lure but it still picks up weed !
Can't see much evidence of these things actually catching a fish.
Then my friend, you are missing a trick. I have caught plenty of Bass and Trout on them. Great lure when you need distance. Have a look at the vid below.

Buy one! This id by far my most successful lure ive ever owned, it catches me just as many seatrout as bass
Except for us bass anglers who've caught plenty of bass on them. They're very easy to work in all levels of the water column and are excellent for long distance precision casting.
