    I agree that this is one of, if not the most complex of harmonies of any Beatles song. The chords, combined with the harmonies, evoke an emotional, almost mournful, feeling in my heart every time I hear this song. Excellent job, Mr. Frudua.

    i have found that George's vocal part seems to be always the hard/tricky one.

    • @ashleywood1628
      @ashleywood1628 8 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      Damn right. He's their harmony secret weapon. Paul's usually wailing away on top (brilliantly I might add) but George has to weave around John and frequently on the non-intuitive notes. He does not get anywhere enough credit for what he gave to their harmony stack and at the end of the day what was most important about the Beatles was the songs and the singing.

    • @matthewstephens6848
      @matthewstephens6848 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      The low harmony is always harder. Top one seems to come naturally but the bottom always takes more work in my experience.

    • @BigStar303
      @BigStar303 7 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Yes, in this case "weave around" is quite accurate. John's part on the opening phrase covers all of three notes in very close proximity to each other. George starts below John's part and then soars above him, ending in a very "close" harmony with Paul. His part on "This Boy" is similarly challenging. George doesn't get near the credit he deserves for the excellence of his harmonies.

      @jopisano67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Archie Nepomuceno. Was thinking the same thing. He had to work his vocal harmony in the mid range without interfering or hitting the same notes as the others. ( which is accidentally easy to do ). Very difficult in my opinion.

    I've been into multi-tracking for 30+ years. I always wanted to tackle this one. A while ago, I started doing some research and I luckily found this TH-cam. I watched this and listened and within minutes I knew the secret. Excellent explanation. I didn't have to do anymore research and I started tracking. I was so happy to find this. You are very good - Top notch singer. This has been the most useful TH-cam I've ever found. It's also my favorite. If you aren't THE authority on how to sing the vocal parts of a Beatles song, I'd like to know who is.

It just speaks of the greatness, magic, charm, talent and awesomeness these Liverpoolians had.
    And I promise you I would make a donation soon because finally I've got a job.

    Very difficult to single out a favorite three-part harmony in The Beatles' amazing work, but I'd have to give this one the nod; John, Paul and George are ethereal on "Yes It Is." Their musical savvy far surpassed their actual musical knowledge, at least at this point in their history; the unorthodoxy they employed, consciously or not, is part of what makes their recordings so fresh, unusual and great. They were virtually unerring in their instincts. And, yes, George got the trickiest parts.

    As a Swede Im so glad the days when only British and US artists was accepted on the pop and rock arena are gone. I know how hard it was for our Swedish ABBA to get their well earned reputation with their Swedish accents. I played in a Beatles tribute band in Sweden, the UK and Hamburg and had to adapt to Liverpool accent to get accepted on the stage. Now I can sing these songs in public with my inherent Swedish accent without any problems. THANK YOU FOR SINGING THESE GREAT SONGS WITHOUT TRYING TO ADAPT TO LIVERPOOL ENGLISH!

    Great job my friend. Great way to break it down. It takes a tremendous ear to seperate the vocals like that. Cos John and George's voice sound similar at times and can be hard to distingiush. And George would go high like Paul at times as well. Georges vocals and difficult harmonies contributef hugely to the Beatles trademark sound. Again great job

I'd never made any covers before now, but for Christmas I really wanted to make a cover of Yes It Is for my friend (as it's their favourite song). George's harmony I think on the line "If you wear red tonight" goes from E
    then up to A then down to to Fsharp.
    Then on the line "remember what i said tonight" it goes from E up to A and
    stays on A Cheers,Phil.

      The Beatles Vocal Harmony
      No problem Galeazzo. What I find with The Beatles is that there is so much clever stuff going on, that even on repeated listening it is easy to miss something that is quite subtle yet which is still inmportant to the sound. Of course with "Yes it is" we not only have these amazing harmonies but further different notes are introduced in the guitar work such as major sevenths. But the quality of the recording of Yes it is isn't that great such that sometimes vocal notes can be confused with guitar notes. 50 years old now yet still it brings us such pleasure. These guys were somehow touched by magic!

    • @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony
      @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zooney1 Phil I re-cheked and re-recorded the whole song to be sure and cross check. I also checked a version with almost no reverb and I only hear the 3 vocals (+ John's doubletracking) I show in the video. I don't hear the "A" on the "wear" and "said". I hear a Gsharp (last verse) but this is a note played by George (amazing effect) with the guitar and the volume pedal. If you have more evidence of the A please let me know. :) 50 years old now yet still it brings us such joy YES! Anyway thanks for your contribution!

    If you notice, for a reason or another the most difficult parts were pretty always up to him!

    @chicolofi Both John and especially Paul were very talented and gifted for what concerns creating vocal harmonies thanks to the hundreds of covers they sang in the early years. I am sure most of the ideas originally came out from them. Still I am sure George Martin role has been ESSENTIAL both on correcting some of the guys ideas under the specific music theory point of view and also suggesting some of the vocals here and there. So it was a team job.

    Great job! And I agree with you, deciphering these vocal lines (especially Paul & George's) is very difficult. The fact that this matter wash mixed down to mono really makes it hard to discern who is singing what. I have tried to sing the three parts to this song knowing the right chords and the notes, and came up with something, but your breakdown is spot on...especially George singing "cuz red is the color that my baby wore..."... I could never hear get his harmony right. Awesome!

    Nice work. I learned a lot. One small critique is that in George's first part in the verse ("If you wear red tonight" and all subsequent corresponding verses), he does not jump a major 6th from E to C# on "red". Instead, I hear E up a major 4th to A on "red" and then down to the F# on the second syllable of "tonight" as you have indicated. It's subtle. The 6th sounds good and plausible. Another fellow I've heard goes up to he 3rd G# on "red". But the Beatles put more tension and suspension in. But nice work anyways, because I was somewhat lost without this! ACTUALLY- just relistened here on 7/21/2020 to the 2009 remaster, and I think you're 100% correct. George does jump from E to C#(the 6th). Impressive! Very nice!

    Yes It Is has always been at the top or near top of my favorite all-time Beatle harmony songs. You describe perfectly the difficult task of getting harmonies around that seemingly straight forward melody that John first came up with. Again you clearly break down each part per the singer singing it one by one and then put it together beautifully. Thank you again my trans-Atlantic paisano amico. I just donated a small amount but will donate once again very soon. You are the best, so appreciated. :)
