Cool video thanks for sharing. I really like the "night shots" especially, the railroad seems to really come alive at night, like a monster that never sleeps! The yard action is cool too!
Rail Angel I have been into model trains since age 5 I'm 53 and still an addict for them. Me and rod steward have the same addiction. just love the hobby. wish i had you in my life so you and i could work on the layout ❤ together.
NS power seems almost always to look immaculate. I suppose having a livery that doesn't show the dirt helps. Lovely shot @ 4:07 with the lights and the setting sun.
Yup, of course traffic picks up when it's dark. I've had that happen to me quite a few times. I would sit for a few hours and see maybe one or two trains in daylight, but the moment it gets dark, there would be like 10 trains.
Isn't this frustrating? Every railfan makes this experience. I have decided to railfan more dynamically and typically follow the line until I hear something on the scanner or see a train. Then I chase it to a nice photo spot. I dislike hanging around and waiting, but most of the time I take work with me and consider a train go by just a welcome break.
At 32nd St., I would-be good taking pictures of the Frisco #4018 (2-8-2 Mikado) and having fun near the fountains but also at Birmingham is the 32nd St. Yard.
All I can say is what a great video!!! I hope to get some action soon because I'm busy with school and I start exams this week Friday, then the following Monday and Tuesday then I'm on Christmas break. I hope to railfanned a crap ton after school ends for the year :P Also, I'm sorry about all the crap you've been going through with copyright and infringement issues and your videos. I hope it'll stop soon
Oh thanks, Captain! I haven't had much time for railfanning recently and won't have either during the holidays. I hope you'll get some great catches. Your channel has developed very nicely. You've got some cool stuff up there.
mbmars01 No problem! Yeah, same here especially with finishing the year with exams, after Tuesday I'll officially started my Christmas break. And thank you! I try to make my videos as interesting and action packed as I possibly can. :-P
Yo mbmars love ur vids! Really smooth videos! You see a lotta good graff go by on those trains! (Just a suggestion-->) I think it would be cool if u got some shots of the graffiti on the trains u see, because I have seen so much good graff on ur vids. (That is what I do on my vids) Just a suggestion, but keep up the good work!
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos but do have a question for you. Why are the notations written so small. I have extreme difficulty reading them, even with 250 reading glasses. I especially enjoy the ones especially with steam engines because this old coder can remember riding them between Athens, GA and Montgomery, AL. keep up the good work, though, even if I can't read it.
Hi Patrick, thank you for your comment. May I ask which device you use for watching the videos? I could imagine that it is difficult to read the annotations on a smart phone or tablet. I typically watch videos on a computer monitor of decent size or even on a TV screen (most of the modern TV sets have built-in network capabilities that allow for watching videos on TH-cam). The video editing software I use for the production (iMovie) has limitations as to what I can do. Increasing the font size means less text, because I have only one line available. But even now I have already problems to find concise expressions for what I want to say. Let me also emphasize that it greatly improves the visual experience if you watch my videos on a large screen. It really makes a big difference. - I wish those steam engines would still be running between Athens GA and Montgomery AL!
mbmars01 thank you for your response. I generally watch the videos on a smartphone because right n o w I am confined to a wheelchair and don't get to me computer very much. but I will start watching them there. And, I an with you. I wish the steam engines were still running. I remember the Silver Comet coming into Athens just at my bedtime. again, thank you f o r your response. you're doing a great job and it is a pleasure watching them.
Thank you so much. I apparently like to watch the modern trains, but a steam engine with all its mechanics and unique sound is a different story. Unfortunately, I cannot remember steam action myself outside museums or during special excursions. The Silver Comet through Athens... That's just awesome as well.
On the same night, I remember the dead in tow NS #9055 being drug into the yard by a northbound NS local mixed freight. Unfortunately, I did not hear it, oh well... :(
Oh, momentarily it's just a placeholder, the ## will be replaced by a simple code (tag). I'm currently tagging all my videos to make it easier for me to find them and more efficient to fill out forms for copyright claims... :( There has been a lot of abuse of my videos recently.
if you will g o the growing up in athens georgia .com website, y o u can see old photos of the Silver Comet. I used to live right beside the tracks on College Avenue. y o u have to b e I n your 70 ' s to remember anything like that. unfortunately, I am 74.
Nice video. I really liked the viewing area so close to the tracks. Thanks again for your work
Thanks; you're welcome :)
train watching platform is awesome!!
I know, it's the best I've ever visited.
Cool video thanks for sharing. I really like the "night shots" especially, the railroad seems to really come alive at night, like a monster that never sleeps! The yard action is cool too!
Thank you! I often have the feeling they sleep during the day (just kidding!)
I love the Scenery in this video along with the nice catch!!
Thank you :)
Beautiful sky around 5:15 - reminds me of mother-of-pearl. Nice catches.
Absolutely agree. Thanks.
excellent video loved it 😊

Thank you! I'm happy it worked out well.
Nice video thank you for sharing. Jac
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Cool video.
Thanks!
Very nice. I can see you are heading west. Next stop, Bailey Yard, N. Platte!
Thanks! Well, not generally, this was a short visit only.
Awesome!
mbmars01 thanks you :)
sweet #7259 EX-SD90MAC nice. awesome catches.
Thank you!
mbmars01 your welcome
NS power seems almost always to look immaculate. I suppose having a livery that doesn't show the dirt helps. Lovely shot @ 4:07 with the lights and the setting sun.
I have the general feeling that NS does a better job in maintaining their engines than others do. I know, I like this sequence, too.
the NS was a nice catch, 4 locos, oh my for the street crossings, lol
Thanks!

That Frisco 4018- I have been told that it is SUPPOSEDLY being restored in 2018. I am not 100% sure, but I've heard this from multiple people.
This would be nice! It's in need of some make-up.

great video!! always enjoy your videos!! what kind of scanner do you use?
Thank you! The scanner is from Uniden, BC125AT. Look out for an antenna tuned for the railroad band 160-161MHz. This improves the performance.

Thank you ! Most of the graffiti isn't nice. In rare case I close up on particularly artistic ones. I have already done this in some of my videos!
Yeah I thot u might not like graffiti. That's okay tho, I still think ur channel is quality!
Great video! There's some nice action there. Also, what video camera do you use?
Thank you! I use a Panasonic HC-V550 camcorder.
You're welcome! Thank you, I'm thinking of getting a new video camera myself, really helps.

I can tell ya...
