Back in 2016, I went to visit Disneyland with my dad. The Haunted Mansion is both our favorite ride (I have a half sleeve tattoo of the tightrope walker painting lmao), and so after everyone got out of the stretching room, we went back over to try to take some photos of the paintings. We were hovering around the doorway and a cast member inside the room told us we could come inside and get better photos if we wanted. It was awesome being in there, just us, able to see every detail and look around. But then, the cast member came up to me and asked me to come over towards the back wall, where a panel was. He told me he had a very important task for me and asked me to press the button on the panel. The stretching room started to reverse and we went back up to the top, and picked up a new batch of people from the foyer. Legit one of the best days of my life, it was really rad he let us do that.
my god well, I only went on the haunted mansion once (I don't go to Disneyland a lot cus I'm from London) and it was on my last day there I can remember a lot cus I was an 8-year-old wuss and I keep on crying, the last thing I wanted was a breakdown but now... I will stay in Disney land until I have at least one breakdown XD
I never went in the Haunted Mansion (seems too scary but I know it is not) but that sounds really cool. Especially it being one of the most famous attractions at Disney.
I won a walk through tour of The Haunted Mansion back in 2014. One of my best memories of the park. I was a cast member and Disney held a Halloween bash for my area of the park (New Orleans food service). They gave us the Golden Horseshoe for the evening after closing and we had an absolute blast. What I had been told was that the first 30 people to line up would receive the walk through and I jumped at the chance to tour my favorite ride on foot. I was one of the first in line lol We saw everything, a cast member tour guide brought us to the hidden cemeteries. We took the elevator down (show mode off) and got to go behind the scenes of each part of the ride. I even got to go see where the dancing ghosts behind the glass that create the illusion for the ballroom. Can confirm that ashes are frequently spread through out the mansion and when it happens they have to close the whole ride down and have a sanitization crew come in and make sure it’s clean again. For sure one of my best memories and will always remember it ♥️
Going up the stretching room is one of the more common alternate exits, simply because apparently the main exit requires stairs to be taken, which obviously doesn't jibe with mobility impairments.
It's only happened to me on splash mountain and Winnie the pooh. I've always wanted it to happen on space. There have been FOUR times where I was just about to get on the ride, and it broke down. Like, c'mon. Could you have not just waited 1 minute for me to be midway through the ride so I could experience the breakdown
@@Dylan-Hooton I'm guessing he was referring to how the boulder at the end doesn't actually come towards you, but the walls on the room move to give the illusion it does.
I love Disneyland. One's whole mood changes even before you enter the Park. Over the years I have been on every ride at least a dozen times. It is so fun to plan a trip and visit at least once a year to see new additions to Downtown Disney, rides, restaurants, foods, and entertainment.
Apparently, I don’t know because I wasn’t born, but my uncle caused this ride to break down not once, but twice, he threw up and caused everyone to have to leave, then did the same on his second time, he hasn’t ridden since
I love the Stretching Room trick. From my experience, my mother uses a EVC and rides her vehicle to the loading area. As a result, we had to stay in our Doombuggy until we return to the loading area to get her back to her EVC after which we ride the gallery back up just like in this video and return through the front door

I have loads of ride breakdown stories. Gotten so many fast passes and cool experiences from them. One of my favorites was a couple years ago we were on space mountain around closing time and suddenly about 3/4 of the way through we stopped and kinda sat there for a few min then the lights turned on! WHICH WAS CRAZY COOL! We waited for a bit then a cast member finally came and gave us a push to go down the rest of the way. When we got back to the station they let us ride again! It was such a great way to end the day!
I love breakdowns at the parks, it gives you a chance to peek at some behind the scenes effects that makes the magic happen. Did you and Kevin know each other were there or did you go together? It's always fun when two youtubers with a common interest get together to do a video
I’m actually surprised, as this dispels a rumor I had once heard. That the DL Haunted Mansions stretching rooms (there are 2) didn’t have enough lift to lift the full room of people back up. That they were designed to do s low descent at full load, and only lift a much less occupied elevator. It seems I was wrong. Which is actually pretty impressive when you think about it. They have to be about the same size as the huge elevators that were in the WTC towers.
Very unique interesting story. Of course nothing here could match WTC, Empire State Builimg or that one in the Middle East (in the building that’s now replaced WTC at biggest tallst$ for a far trip
I went on the ride 10 years ago and I was riding with my great grandmother who was in a wheelchair and couldn’t walk without it. So we had to stay on the doom buggy through the exit and we got to see where the flaps are where they store the buggies. And then we got off at the loading area and we got to go back up the stretching room. It was so cool and interesting to see. Glad you got to see this!
As a full time wheelchair user, we have been up the stretching room elevator many times. It is eerily quiet in there. When the ride is operating, they have us stay by the wall right next to the door while everyone files in. When all are in, it is clear for us to roll out. We've never seen the scene after exiting the doom buggies. So "come back, come baaack" is something we've never heard in person.
This is interesting! I knew the stretching room was an elevator before I rode it for the first time and I thought it wouldn't be noticeable but I rode it and then realized that it was noticeable
When I was very young, we went to EPCOT before the 2007 renovation. I remembered the ride very clearly, especially when the ride would stop constantly, wait a while, then start again. Another time, about 5 years ago, we went on Tower of Terror. We got stuck with a funny group. So we went to the maintenance service elevator, and all is normal. Until we get to the shaft. Right before the shaft, the lights part from the middle. Then, we get stuck in the dark for about 10 min. before the lights came on. We were stuck then listening to the evacuation spiel, all while not getting evacuated. Then, a guy comes on the speakers, and we got the best ride ever. I knew of the drop patterns at the time, and this was one that never saw the light of day. It was absolutely CRAZY! Especially the rare effects which sometimes aren't seen! We then got off the ride and entered a cast member elevator, which was small, but fit the entire crew of guests in our elevator. We then walk through the cast member corridors within the attraction, go up this elevator where we thought it was going to drop as well. Which brings us back to the loading area, and we get right back on. During the Frozen Fireworks show. Best ride I've ever had.
I have actually been stuck on/in the Haunted Mansion. I went to Disneyland this previous summer, we (my friends and I) waited 2 hours to get on the Haunted Mansion. We got on and everything went well, up until the dinner/dancing scene. We got stuck for about 45 minutes.
Your experience was really fun👻 When we went to the HM in WDW, we got stuck in the portraits room as well. Staff apologized for the inconvenience and offered to wait a bit but it lasted for 25 mins. Then we all left the mansion through the fire exit, up the steps.
A couple of weeks ago I was in Disneyland Paris and I was riding Phantom Manor (the European version of the Haunted Mansion) and the elevator in the stretching room I was in didn't go down for some reason. However, the show mode started as usual. Being a huge fan of the ride I found this odd because I knew that if the show mode was on the final effect that showed the phantom in the ceiling would occur even if the elevator wasn't working. So I started thinking that since we didn't go down we would have a chance to see the phantom really close. God, I was so correct. The phantom was literally a few feet away from us and scared the hell out of all those who didn't expect it as I did. Nobody told us anything and the elevator started working properly after the show mode had ended, and we went down with no music or anything else. It was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me on a Disney ride!
I got to experience my FIRST in-show exit! First of all, it was my first day at Disney. First ride of the day. We were going through Tomorrowland and saw that they had just opened the doors for the Carousel of Progress. So we got on, and everything was going fine. Then we got to the Scene when they blow a fuse. After the first time, we had gotten stuck. About 2 more times past and the audio COMPLETELY cut out. So when it went dark, everyone got out their flashlights and shined it at the stage (I can confirm that the animatronics still move while it's dark). After the audio cut out, we all took turns saying the lines for about 3 more times. I kept saying to my mom, "I really hope we get an in-show exit". She had no idea what it was, so me and my brother explained it. One more time passed and we FINALLY got an in-show exit! We got a FastPass and got to walk up to the stage and a little kid got to go and pet the dog. *It wasn't the greatest ride to get an in-show exit, but it was still cool*
Yeah. It's so sad. This was the only project Walt himself worked on, and they treat it like crap. This ride is a wonderful ride, with a direct connection to a wonderful man. This ride really needs some love.
@@Alex-ym5nm I know. Disney likes to keep the magic alive, but they forgot to keep the man behind it all alive. But it is still very cool to get an in show exit.
I got stuck on small world in the first beginning section for like three hours back in like, 2009ish. I had nightmares for a while. That song will never leave my mind.
I was on Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios (at the time MGM) many many years ago. Got all the way to where the ride vehicle loads into the elevator shaft and the whole things shut down. We were stuck in that position for around 45 minutes until they could pull our vehicle into the exit dock. After we got off the ride, they offered put us in a new vehicle and try again. The best part was that they took us up through the backstage where we got to ride the ACTUAL maintenance elevator of the hotel before we got back onto the ride "maintenance elevator".
Lol, so awesome! You lucky people 😫 I've never had a ride breakdown while I was on it, despite being to Disneyland at least 15+ times now. The Mansion would be the ultimate ride to get to see with opportunities like this. I loved the people's reactions 😂
Dang! What an awesome experience! I was on the falcon at WDW a cpl weeks ago when it broke down, and ive been on dinosaur when it went down but surprisingly those are the only 2 breakdowns ive been a part of in my 20+ years of going yo WDW. Also, it was wonderful talking with you and rob from robplays at EPCOT after EPCOT forever a cpl weeks ago!
We brought a friend with us who is confined to the wheelchair, so we had this experience, as well as staying on the ride without exiting at the end. It was also the Haunted Mansion Holiday version.
I've been contemplating the idea of having Little Leota's "hurry back" spiel play while the stretching room resets. You know, because people who cant use the exit ramp would miss it.
Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination, hmm? And consider this dismaying observation, this chamber has no windows and no doors. Which offers you this chilling challenge, to find a way out! Of course, there’s always my way.....in this case his way was kicking everyone out and back into the foyer. He rejected the mortals, none of them please him to be his next happy haunt
On my summer vacation we went to the huanted manshion and we got on and on the last scene it broke down for like 30 minutes and cast members came and got us out
I once got to go back up in the Stretching room at grad nite back in 2012. We had a disabled person in my group so she couldn't get off at the usual exit. It was pretty weird going out the way we came in let alone riding the full loop all the way back to the load. XD
Once I got stuck in the ballroom when u go backwards and me and my brother were tilted we stayed tilted for 30 minutes but it was a very fun experience!
It was the last day my pass worked a few years ago and my group went on Winnie the Pooh. At the scene of Pooh eating hunny in the wall the ride stopped and we got to exit the ride from there, and that’s how I learned that some cast members hide a little rubber duck around the ride and move it around all secret like.
Somewhere in my parents house there is a cassette VHS of us going up the elevator and my brothers and me freaking out. Never gotten to do it since, but it's cool to see again.
I've been evacuated from the Paris Haunted Mansion (Phantom Manor) and had an inshow exit. We were at the ballroom scene so got escorted back to the entrace. As the Paris one is also and elevator we went through the stretching room and some secret doors oposite and up the service stairs to exit by the ride exit. Was a rather cool experience.
On Frozen Ever After everything was fine until we got to Elsa. She fine was fine for a couple seconds but then her face turned black and then showed an imagineering screen. It kept switching between the two screens. I told a CM about Elsa and the ride temporarily closed. Thankfully no kids were on our boat. I also got it on video. It happened April 6, 2018
Victoria Hanger hey! If you happen to see this before the end of the day on Saturday, would you be able to send the video to us for us to use in a video on the channel?
It does look like the Walt Disney World/Tokyo Disney room, though, as the ceiling itself seems to ride..great illusionm, right up there with Pepper's ghost in the "endless" candlelabra hallway, and, of course,. the big ballroom.
One time we got stuck on the little mermaid ride on the scene where Ursula was there and bruh we were stuck for like 2 hours and Ursula went dead so she stopped moving😂
there was this one time when I was maybe around 10 or 11 when we went to Disney California Adventure. One of the rides broke down while we were in the cue. It was the Hollywood Tower of Terror and we had just gotten past the preshow on the boiler room floor. While we were waiting, the main lights went on and a staff member came in and told us that our elevator car had experienced technical difficulties. Since we couldn't go back through the pre-show doors, we were led through the staff hallways back to the entrance where we got our fast passes. It gave us a look behind the scenes at how the staff manage to get to each floor easily
The first time I saw that was when me and my family went to Disneyland 2010. My dad was in a wheelchair and we also got to ride the karts all the way around back to the beginning which was really cool.
I was stuck on Indiana Jones right about where the rat scene is. We were sitting there for about 10 minutes and when the ride came back on, the car hydraulics had go sync up to the part of the ride we were at. So for a good minute or two we were not moving forward, just being bounced around until the ride was in sync and then continued the rest of the ride. It was so funny to see just a bunch of people bouncing around and not going anywhere lol
In 1984, I was on The Pirates of the Caribbean when it broke down during the battle between the ship and the castle. The cannons kept firing, no vocals, and the boats stopped. Kind of floated backwards towards the emergency exits. A man two boats behind us had a heart attack. (Walt Disney World.)
I was on Space Mt in WDW once and it broke down...we were on the final landing before the last drop when the lights came on...a cast member had to physically push our rocket so we could finish the ride and safely get off....we got to get back on but it was cool seeing the track lit up and the fact we needed a push was too funny
For the electric lights parade, it would be nice to have an idea of were that electronic music comes from. Imagine a marching band of little fling robots!
I got stuck on the many adventures of Winnie the Pooh is Magic Kingdom and we were stuck in a door way and they had to push the honey themed trains backwards by hand and it was cool walking of with the lights on and nothing moving
I experienced a break down on splash mountain! I actually dont have any footage since it was a water ride and didnt bring my phone with me. It was a really cool experience walking through some of the scenes on the ride.
I was on Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin when it broke down. The funniest part was as soon as the vehicles stopped, one of the friends I was with yelled really loud "I DIDN'T DO IT!" It was my first time on the ride, and walking through the ride in an in-show exit really didn't let the story the ride was trying to tell make sense. Many years later I finally went through the ride and it's actually a really nice ride when everything is animated.

I got stuck on small world in the first beginning section for like three hours back in like, 2009ish.
I had nightmares for a while. That song will never leave my mind.
Yesterday, I was watching a video about illusions at Disneyland, and Walt Disney World, too, with this illusion at the Haunted Mansion.
Yay, been waiting for a new vid. Keep up the good work.😁
I was on Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios (at the time MGM) many many years ago.
When I went to Disneyland last week it broke down so we went up the elevator a.k.a the “strcethcing room” it was a best experience ever
This is so cool! A little disorienting, though
XD
I’m impressive!!! I did experience breakdown on Space Mountain in 2013
I havent watched tpm vids in FOREVER
Well welcome back foolish mortal!!👻
@@TPMvids XD thank you~ it feels great to be back!!! 😜
I love what you do
Me, someone who needs to use a mobility scooter/wheel chair: hol up this ain’t rare
Damn... this reminds me so much of epic mickey... that game was amazing and absolutely full of disney stuff
That game is better than literally any Disney live action remake EVER!!!!!
Everytime you post it gets me hyped up and best Disney channel ever!
Do you have the video on your channel? I would like to see it!
Victoria Hanger hey! If you happen to see this before the end of the day on Saturday, would you be able to send the video to us for us to use in a video on the channel?
@@TPMvids Sorry I saw this so late but I believe I sent it to you before. I can send it again tonight though.
i love this ride so much.
Ahhh yup.. *ThE SQUASHING ROOM*
It does look like the Walt Disney World/Tokyo Disney room, though, as the ceiling itself seems to ride..great illusionm, right up there with Pepper's ghost in the "endless" candlelabra hallway, and, of course,. the big ballroom.
I once had to go through the staff only maintenance halls when the haunted mansion broke down.
That’s pretty awesome! 👍🏻
One time we got stuck on the little mermaid ride on the scene where Ursula was there and bruh we were stuck for like 2 hours and Ursula went dead so she stopped moving😂
I love the stretching room in the haunted mansion but I usually ride The Nightmare Before Christmas Holiday overlay
there was this one time when I was maybe around 10 or 11 when we went to Disney California Adventure.
Haunted mansion 240 times
Ya I am a Disney lover
wow!! that's cool!!!
This is incredible!!😯😃
THAT IS FRIGGIN COOOOOL
The first time I saw that was when me and my family went to Disneyland 2010. My dad was in a wheelchair and we also got to ride the karts all the way around back to the beginning which was really cool.
That's so bizzare! I kinda like it
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYBODY ! 🎃👻🦇🌕
That's so weird! It's so surreal and shocking, that One of our buds is actually shaking in excitement! O.O
PS: It looks like you're gonna get squished by the ceiling!
Your videos are awesome
I was there when it happened it was so funny It was also really cool to see behind the scenes!
I got stuck on the haunted mansion and me and my family were stuck for about 3 hours!
Michael Demos living the dream
The haunted mansion holiday has broken down
I was on Space Mt in WDW once and it broke down...we were on the final landing before the last drop when the lights came on...a cast member had to physically push our rocket so we could finish the ride and safely get off....we got to get back on but it was cool seeing the track lit up and the fact we needed a push was too funny
I guess it's cool to see the elevator going up backwards but I didn't realize it went that fast please keep recording more videos at Disney parks
I came here after searching for the holiday haunted Mansion, kinda disappointed you haven't done a video on it yet-
Oh well, this is still cool
Love that voice over 😂😂😂
Haha I tried😅
For the electric lights parade, it would be nice to have an idea of were that electronic music comes from. Imagine a marching band of little fling robots!
I got stuck on the many adventures of Winnie the Pooh is Magic Kingdom and we were stuck in a door way and they had to push the honey themed trains backwards by hand and it was cool walking of with the lights on and nothing moving
I experienced a break down on splash mountain! I actually dont have any footage since it was a water ride and didnt bring my phone with me. It was a really cool experience walking through some of the scenes on the ride.
This is so so awesome too see
“Oh, my god!”
“Is anyone else seeing this?!”
“Yeah, I’m seeing it!”
Wow, cool!
