Also, I saw the Indiana Jones Boulder illusion myself on the night before my 20th birthday! The lights turned on and for 30 minutes we were sitting in a stopped Jeep with a boulder spinning in place towards us. I was lucky to see it with my own eyes.
That is so cool! I saw a video one time where people were stuck on Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios and they were in the section where normally you see the the spirals and stuff floating down and hearing The Twilight Zone theme. The lights came on and you could see a mirror and it also looked different. I think those people were stuck there for a half hour before they got to drop. So, those people got to see something that most people wouldn't. If I was on it and got stuck I'd be getting impatient after 10 minutes of sitting and waiting.

The Pirates mirror half skeleton, half human had me SHOOK. In the video you can see the mirror more but in person, SWEAR I rode it three times and tried to figure it out haha.
It’s only an elevator at Disneyland at Disney World the ceiling raises up, it’s not an elevator. I can confirm this as we were just at WDW and the stretching room part is currently being skipped due to social distancing, and we just walked right through.
I went to Disney World during Covid and they cut out the Stretching Room. I never realized how much the Stretching Room is needed to make the ride as good as it is. Because it did not feel like the Haunted Mansion.
I used to work Winnie the Pooh in Disney World. The bear figure that floats is actually behind the two way mirror. I believe you said it was reflected on a second mirror at 45 degrees which is untrue. The scene where he’s sitting and falling asleep is reflected but the floating bear is in a black room behind the mirror itself. The light turns on as the figure rotates upwards.
It's not an illusion per se, but the way they manage to create a three-dimensional star field in Space Mountain just by simply using disco balls to project lights onto the support structures of the ride has always fascinated me. The movement of said stars creates that iconic feeling of going faster than you really are. Very simple yet very effective and clever
The Indiana Jones boulder illusion was easily the most impressive. I've been on that ride so many times and had NO idea until watching videos online showing it. It has always felt like I was moving backwards. Huge fan of Pepper's Ghost because of its history with magicians. Love learning how illusions are done
#5- the “waltzing ghosts “- the female ghosts had ( maybe still do) beautiful hand made jewelry- my good friend Kathy Escott made all the original jewelry back in the day 😘
My fav illusion is the butterfly in Journey into Imagination - because to me it was always so obvious because I could see the line of where the mirror is attached at the top. I like the illusion so much exactly because I was able to figure out how it works, so simple and yet so effective.
Always been a fan of the peppers ghost effect in Phantom Manor / Haunted Mansion, the ballroom is one of my favourite scenes in the attraction overall. There is also a cool effect in Shanghai Disneyland's version of POTC where a skeleton turns into Jack and it has a giant glass panel to project the skeleton onto the Jack Sparrow animatronic, very cool! Disney puts so much effort into their effects, i love the parks.
for a school trip, they took us on a tour of how the effects worked for my engineering class. coolest thing to see the mirror and actual animatronics in person not just their reflection in Haunted Mansion. best trip to Disney ive had hands down
My favorite illusion has always been the ghosts dancing in the ballroom at WDW, I’m so glad I understand how it works now! My mom and I have actually had discussions about how it works so now I can tell her 😊

lightningwu.... Well I know a little bit. Since my mom and me did the Keys to the Kingdom tour on Oct 29th. We did the 10 am one. Since we did not want to be rushed to try to make it to an early one. It was interesting to learn how they make it feel like the boat is floating in the Jungle Cruise ride. Also that Main Street USA heading toward Cinderrella's Castle was built going uphill to slow down the runners for their safety. Also learned some interesting info on the Parade Floats too.
@@lightningwu Also the tour guide we had for our group said he was filling in that day for someone. He usually does the undiscovered countries tour over at Epcot. His name was Christopher. I am surprised no one asked if his last name was Robin and how is the sillly old bear doing. :)

I hope I remembered the name of skipper correctly but it might of been a nickname of hers. I believe she told us her name was Maggie. She had me laughing from beginning to end. I even remember 3 of her jokes while waiting to get to the unloading dock.

I would say the one from Pirates of the Carribian and the new Hatbox Ghost. I liked those ones because I actually saw them in person yesterday because I went to Disneyland for Gradnite.

I love how you said that the Dead Man illusion in Pirates was a simple one, because when my dad and I noticed the dude changing from dead to alive we were absolutely STUMPED. We rode Pirates over and over again, taking videos, staring at the dude, absolutely mesmerized trying to figure it out hahahah.
As much as I love this video, I think it would’ve been better if you covered 10 different effects from 10 different rides, instead of having 4 entries being about the Pepper’s Ghost effect
I was thinking the same thing. He could've explained Pepper's Ghost and then just shown all those effects as examples of it. Same goes for the mirror trick used in POTC and Journey into Imagination.
Also, in the Haunted Mansion, there was a crack in the glass wall. It would’ve cost a lot and the ride would have been closed for quite a while to replace the whole wall. So, imagineers just made it into a little spiders cob-web!

10:39 the mirror doesn't explain it's 3D look when your cart goes by you can see different angles of the characters face. The mirror illusion wouldn't work in that case.
The haunted Mansion stretching room! How it didn't make the list I will never know. So much timing and forced perspective along with the dim light and effects make it my absolute favorite visual trick. Doesn't hurt that the Disneyland haunted Mansion is my favorite ride either...

Having seen in person the WDW Haunted Mansion concave busts from behind, I'm fairly certain they are lit from above behind the set. (Work lights were on, so I cannot be 100% certain.)

OMG! These reveal of the Illusions amazes us more than the tricks themselves. Mostly with the Hat Box Ghost. The Illusion is so fluid, you barely noticed hair moving at all. Like it quickly disappears into the body as ectoplasm. O.O

Omg I finally understand Peppers ghost!! I’ve seen so many videos explaining it but I’ve still been a bit confused. The lighting changes and arrows helped SO MUCH!!! I’m so excited rn 😹 Also I’ve been going to Disney World for forever and I’m shook that the butterfly trick is that simple! I never had understood it!!! I finally see it now! The Indiana Jones one is so incredibly realistic. The first time I rode it I thought it was real and we went under the boulder. One of my favorite rides at Disneyland 💕

Disney changed things around a lot. Like the Journey into the Imagination ride isn't' there anymore. It closed in 2001.
The original version closed in 2001. The version with the butterfly illusion was there as of summer 2017.

@@lobot4780 I'm Australian so I don't pronounce it properly either. In an Aus accent it comes out like "mir-rah". Two syllables. Where as when this man says it I only here one syllable. "Meer".

The Indiana Jones one is so incredibly realistic. The first time I rode it I thought it was real and we went under the boulder. One of my favorite rides at Disneyland 💕
