I've done a simpler method of simply swishing all the carts in grain alcohol, letting it evaporate in the sun or by a heat vent, then pour it back into an empty cart. About 32 or so empties to fill one back up, and the taste was actually decent.
pop the mouth piece off, hold upside down over a jar with pliers and heat with a hair dryer or heat gun. It will all run out into the jar and leave almost no residue. Why make it take more than a few minutes?
I’ve done this and recovered multiple grams of good quality and full spectrum extract. I think the key points from my experience is to use a high purity solvent, do a pre-wash of unopened carts to remove anything undesirable that also dissolves in said solvent, and to run your extract through a filter before concentrating it.

I use 100% isopropyl alcohol which seems to be a bit faster at dissolving thicker oils in my experience. A critical thing I always do though is that I pre rinse all of my carts with it before opening them up to dissolve the contents. This pre-wash reduces the carry over of contamination from the outside of the cartridges which can include skin oils, trapped dust, and other stuff you might not want to be vaping.

I know you shouldn't, but 99.9% rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol was pretty much the standard for making a cheap low-grade green oil. The bikers in Canada would do this back in the late 70's through to the 90's. I'm sure for centuries before that they used some sort of liquid to breakdown the oils and waxes then evaporate the liquid leaving all that THC Yumminess... lol.
My chemistry set was in my other house that exploded the first time I tried to repurpose my vape carts. I’ll go to the store to buy them until I can purchase a new home as well as a new set of beakers, syringes, heat guns, more beakers, tubes, heat resistant glass, and of course highly flammable high proof alcohol & I’ll put my Bunsen burner on 7 instead of 8 this time.

When we all ran out of our seedy, brown, bricked swag, we'd meet up and scrap our pipes spotless then take knife hits of the resin. Woooo! It was so harsh and nasty but I would be baked af, layed out on the floor. Best part is just ball of that tarry resin the size of a marble could last 3 of us almost a week, the worst part is the come down included a terrible headache that only went away with a nap.

This could be dangerous as you could be leaking heavy metals from the cart with the solvent and with the added heat. You should get it tested for heavy metals to make sure it's safe.
My boss had me try this on all our returned vape carts and the final oil turned out dark brown / black. I told here theres no way we are putting that out as a product. I have no idea what metals or synthetic materials are inside those carts. I would not smoke this.

I knew my chemistry hobby would come in useful one day🤣. I did a vacuum distillation when I extracted the bulk of the solvent though to recover the alcohol, it's always fun when I get to bust out the glassware...

Heat ur leftover carts up with a lighter/blow dryer and put them thread down into a sock, then put that sock inside another one and spin it in a circle for a minute or two to get excess oil near the holes .
Dispensaries should have a return scheme (like electronics places do batteries) to salvage dregs and minimize waste - They could sell it as 'reclaim' and recycle the plastics/steel
My old home dispensary used to reclaim and recycle flower jars, and the plastic bags that were opaque that they're forced to sell the product in because "omg what if kids see it?".

My process with this is doing what you did then letting the alcohol dissolve to a level where I could transfer it to a Pyrex, then left the solution sitting out for 2 days, all the alcohol dried and i was wet with a similar but darker product. Was also using rigs.

And as for purging yeah sure if you want the purest reclaimed wax go for it but you legitimately get the same exact result from baking it. And also doing it with iso. Do it how you want but to attempt to try and say that it’s unsafe if actually done in another proper method then I don’t know what to say. If you care about chemicals entering your body you literally shouldn’t be smoking anything other than the highest end solvent less wax. If you have ever smoked street wax you have smoked something fucked. Period. That’s something that everyone should accept. Same with carts.
great vid!! def got some ideas from this to improve my processes! :D also if you have a vac oven you can do it in a way doesnt winterize the product by getting everything pretty cold (to avoid shock to the glass) and use butane as the solvent (i prefer to offload it first into a cold jar from the cans and stop slightly before its empty to minimize mystery oil) follow a similar process to your minus the hotplates and stuff just let it air purge till its to a point it can go into the vac oven. ( also its super obvious and shouldnt even need to be mentioned but sadly does xD do that shit outside hahah
And for the regular people who don't have this just boil water find a plate that fits over the pot youre boiling the water in, take your iso THC mix and bake it on the plate, clean razor scrap it off when is hardened and done. Used to do this long ago. Just make sure you have good ventilation.
Wonder what types of metals would show up if you lab tested that. After a lot of it was sitting in cartridges for a long time. Seems sketchy. Empty glass containers maybe worth it...but I would pass on the cartridges.

heat it up near a space heater with a air blowing option for 40 seconds then put cart in a sock 510 pin first and spin. Enjoy your extra hits gravity is your friend even heat it up and tape it to the ceiling fan
RSO should not be made using isopropyl alcohol, there are no benefits only unhealthy side effects. Everclear/grain alcohol is super cheap, safer and very effective. Have a great day
Please don't soak carts in solvent... yes you dissolve the concentrate, but you're also picking up solder and other metallic compounds from the atomizer assembly. At the very least test your reclaimed material - you don't want lead, arsenic or mercury in your inhalables 🤦

Dispensaries should have a return scheme (like electronics places do batteries) to salvage dregs and minimize waste - They could sell it as 'reclaim' and recycle the plastics/steel
that's a really great idea! Only worry would be some places cheeping out on reclaiming, but this would save so much waste.
My old home dispensary used to reclaim and recycle flower jars, and the plastic bags that were opaque that they're forced to sell the product in because "omg what if kids see it?".

My process with this is doing what you did then letting the alcohol dissolve to a level where I could transfer it to a Pyrex, then left the solution sitting out for 2 days, all the alcohol dried and i was wet with a similar but darker product. Was also using rigs.

And also assuming that you are reclaiming bho anyway. Sure that’s what a lot of people smoke but this isn’t 2015 anymore. And as for purging yeah sure if you want the purest reclaimed wax go for it but you legitimately get the same exact result from baking it. And also doing it with iso. Do it how you want but to attempt to try and say that it’s unsafe if actually done in another proper method then I don’t know what to say. If you care about chemicals entering your body you literally shouldn’t be smoking anything other than the highest end solvent less wax. If you have ever smoked street wax you have smoked something fucked. Period. That’s something that everyone should accept. Same with carts.

great vid!! def got some ideas from this to improve my processes! :D also if you have a vac oven you can do it in a way doesnt winterize the product by getting everything pretty cold (to avoid shock to the glass) and use butane as the solvent (i prefer to offload it first into a cold jar from the cans and stop slightly before its empty to minimize mystery oil) follow a similar process to your minus the hotplates and stuff just let it air purge till its to a point it can go into the vac oven. ( also its super obvious and shouldnt even need to be mentioned but sadly does xD do that shit outside hahah

And for the regular people who don't have this just boil water find a plate that fits over the pot youre boiling the water in, take your iso THC mix and bake it on the plate, clean razor scrap it off when is hardened and done. Used to do this long ago. Just make sure you have good ventilation.

Please don't soak carts in solvent... yes you dissolve the concentrate, but you're also picking up solder and other metallic compounds from the atomizer assembly. At the very least test your reclaimed material - you don't want lead, arsenic or mercury in your inhalables 🤦
