ALSO JUST WANNA SAY: I’m FULLY aware that my issues with the Miya Himi gouache set may seem “trivial” since gouache is rewettable, etc. but they affected my workflow and made me genuinely hate gouache this summer 😂 I’m one of those artists that really prefer fresh gouache over rewetting dry gouache. I’m just really glad that it isn’t all going to waste since I’m reusing them in the new palette! I don’t really notice any paint quality issues it’s more of a setup and palette quality issue for me.

Tbh I bought the himi gouache to learn to be less precious with my paint.
Sometimes paint lasts me for years even decades because I'm so careful/scared to not use them up...the himi gouache is not as high quality and the once the containers are open you are kinda forced to use up those big amounts of paint. It helps tricking my mind into mixing bigger amount of paint and feeling less pressured to make "perfect" art because I used higher quality paper/paint.
I wouldn't use this set for important paintings but for studying it is good for me personally. I felt like my frugality with my /nice/ paints was hindering my development.
It has been around a year since I purchased it and it is drying up, but aslong as I can reactivate them, I don't mind.
That’s really good! 🙌 I wish I could’ve learned to do that with them, but at least with the new set I’ve been experiencing something similar! I now use gouache a lot more and more messy/freely
I'm exactly the same! I got the set precisely because I wanted to be less precious with it, and I loved the colour selection (I got the bigger set with 24 colours). It's been fun, I did loads of pieces (most of them bad), but I've also improved a lot. I might go for Arteza next, but I'm not sure.
All you have to do to preserve your HIMI’s is spray them with a little bit water and mix them once or twice a week 🤗 I absolutely love the HIMI paints and have gone trough two palettes of them, I love the vibrant beautiful colours and I do have a separate palette of custom colours using the HIMI paints. The upkeep can be a little work but the paints are amazing to me. I’ve been working with them for quite some time.

That’s why I just ordered them. I haven’t progressed much with the Windsor and Newton gouache mainly because it was expensive and I don’t want to waste it on experiments and practices. I’m excited to just have a go and not worry about the cost of the paints.
i’ve had the himi miya gouache set for a while now, and i didn’t really have any problem with it. i use it like, every other day and so far it hasn’t dried out for me. though i do spray it with water before and after everytime i use it, and once a month i just mix it around with a toothpick if the edges are a little dry. also, i heard that its 44 dollars in other countries and can i just say- w h a t ? i got it for only 18 dollars here in ph and holy jeez. this set is good in my opinion, but thats too expensive imo
RIGHT?! for $44 I'm totally gonna panic about stuff drying and colours getting messy lol xD honestly, if it was $18 for me I wouldn't mind as much for the drying because that's a huge amount of paint for only $18! I still would prefer and maybe make the smaller palette but that's just a personal "work flow and size" preference! :D

yes it’s in CAD, which is 33 USD! Idk why they gotta make it so pricy here if it were around 23-25 CAD which is equal to 18 USD, I would be more lenient lol (but I’d still prefer my smaller palette!)

It dried because the paints weren’t cared for properly. If you spray them with distilled water once a week out of a little spray bottle, they maintain their consistency for a very long time. I’m mostly making this comment so that people who recently bought the himi gouache aren’t so discouraged by these complaints that are completely preventable.
Hello, hello! For those of you thinking about buying this set, it's definitely worth it. If it's not overpriced in your country of course. In my country, the 18 color set went from $16 to as less than $6, in maybe I think a year or less. Yes, $6 like wow, it's more than worth it. It's _$6_ for _18_ colors of _30ml_ of gouache. If you're planning to buy this set, I recommend not fully opening it, just open it a little, enough to put your palette knife inside and scoop out paint. Then, transfer some/a bit of paint in that same palette she has (or at least an airtight one you know?). It's one of the best artight palletes ones I've seen. Anyway, the reason for doing that is for the ones in the cup will act as your "refills" and will dry out slower, and the ones in the palette you have is also smaller, more airtight, and more portable. I've seen the same exact palette she uses online, sold for about $5-$7 here. Though, you don't have to do what I said, it's just a recommendation for those who doesn't want their paint to dry so often, have to reactivate a lot, and etc. Be mindful to open your palettes from time to time to avoid mold, and also rewet/reactivate/spray because obviously, they will still dry out, eventually.

For those of you who can't afford this set, because maybe the price is pretty bad in your place, I recommend these brands. These are the cheapest and decent-good qualities I could find. They are perfect for beginners, those who just doesn't want to cry from expensive art supplies, have fun with without worrying about "wasting" and all, just like the Himi Miya Gouache. (they are affordable and available in most countries and online)

Which of those has the most vibrant colors with the least streaks would you say?
I really wouldn’t recommend reeves gouache, it activates too easily with water and layering is a challenge in itself. Mostly you’ll be working opaquely with gouache paints, so avoid it if you have the chance.
Its purpose is for art students who needed easily accessible paint for school and exams. Every single aspect of it is catered towards that. So obviously if it's not used in the way it was intended for, then it's not going to work out. 🤷🏻♀️ That's like using korean makeup (which is extremely sheer bc korean makeup is meant to be more natural) and expecting it to work like full coverage makeup that westerners like.

Rewetting the gouache was only ONE of my issues with the Miya Himi set! I know how to rewet with water I just prefer using the Himi gouache combined with my tiny palette a lot more for several reasons:
1) The colours are custom and I love the pastels I made myself ready to use!
2) I don’t mind the tiny set colours getting dirty because there’s more clean paint stored elsewhere. SO that means I can be my messy careless self without freaking out lol 😂
3) it’s much easier to rewet and stir the small portions of paint to my liking 👌
4) the lid is much more airtight. MY set’s lid was broken and doesn’t close properly. It doesn’t have a plastic squishy insulation thing (sorry I have no idea what it’s called lmao) that my small palette has!
5) the set in my country (Canada) is SO overpriced!! That may be different for u guys which is so lucky!

i was honestly shock it being that expensive, here its usually 10-11 US $ lol and a got mine for 8.50 US $ which is not bad.
I gotta say, calling your palette cheaper when the turner gouache you're using is 20$-30$ for a set plus the cost of the palette you're using is... an interesting choice.

Not to mention not only the cost of all the tubes for a set plus the palette but also the fact that two separate products (the miya-himi plus the tubes) were being mixed together to make one palette colour range?? This is a very poorly planned out video in my opinion.

buying a pre-owned or affordable gouache set and making a custom palette can be more cost effective then buying a whole new Himi set of paint.
It’s save you money when you don’t actually like the himi paint.
I had a set of arteza tube paints and bought the himi set later on because I though it would encourage me to paint more frequently having all the colours out in one palette, but I kept finding myself grabbing the tube set because I didn’t like the consistency of the Himi paint. I think the colours are less vibrant and dull compared to other Gouache paint.
Wetting and mixing the himi gouache with water dose stop it from drying out. Some colours will dry out quicker then others no matter what.
Some people love this paint and that perfectly fine but having a different experience is part of the learning with any art supply.

U can buy, himi miya spray moisturizer for 14 US dollars in shopee or lazada. Which with one spray, it can turn you dry paints, back to new. Just sharing.
Yes I heard of that ty for sharing though! ❤️ tbh I don’t rlly want to spend on moisturizers since that’s just one of my issues w the palette, I’d rather just use my tiny palette and rewet with water!
the last coffee bean you don’t have to a by a special moisturizer for the himi paints or any gouache paints for that made. All you have to do is spray it with water. That’s kinda the point of gouache. Please don’t fall for that that’s a waste of money.

Just spritz water everyday and they'll stay the same. I have mine fore 2 months now and they are still as good as new.
It also does close properly, when you are closing it you have the lock it and push the lid down and it will close.
About air tightness, i just put it in a massive ziplock.
You have a point, and I’ve been doing that even with the smaller set, but I’ve heard from other artists that adding too much water ruins the pigmentation over time! So at least with my smaller palette it only dilutes a small portion of my paints and so I don’t mind. Also my main issue was that I wasn’t comfortable dipping into the paints like I normally would and getting them messy (it’s definitely a “me problem” 😂). I’m glad to hear yours are doing good tho! 🙌
Ohhh and also, maybe your lid is ok like many others (which is why I didn’t put the lid being broken as a major con), but mine is definitely damaged. Now that I’m using it as a “storing palette” For the paints tho I’ll definitively try using the ziplock trick so ty!
My two cents: if you dig having something for ease of use and travel, then a mixing your own palette is the way to go. For those that prefer working with wet gouache ,straight from the tube is the way to go as mixing a small palette with a quick drying medium isn't going to stay wet for long. I mix my own gouache palette with my good paints, but I have to add vegetable glycerin to the mix to keep it from crumbling but it in no way keeps my pans wet. Working with it dry is def an option as it recativates like watercolor, but it's not the same as working with it from the tube.
Spraying down your gouache, even as you work, is the way you work with this medium. If the water you add is affecting the way your gouache performs then you are adding too much water or the brand straight up isn't good.
I use both the Himi (for practice and sketchbook play) and Winsor & Newton for more serious work. I'm truly not sure that Himi gouache is a higher grade than student level, but it's excellent for a budget practice medium. You get a massive color variety upon purchase and that might make all the difference to some.
Another note about usability, I really don't recommend working with undiluted gouache. The best way to work with it to reap the most rewards, disregarding brand, is to mix it with water to a pancake batter-like consistency otherwise it's one heck of a headache on your brush and your paper. Straight from the tube or from the Himi set w/o dilution is making it harder on yourself for no reason. Gouache dries quick, but undiluted dries EVEN QUICKER.
That said, this Himi makes for a good practice palette. I've had mine for about 8 mos now and all of my paints are moist and work great. The cover is totally not airtight so I keep it in a ziplock. When I use it, I grab some on a palette knife and add about a drop or two of water to it and mix it to consistency.

I understand your opinion! But sometimes, I think we all forget that they’re like school-friendly paints. (I forgot the word 😂 but it’s basically mostly for school, like crayola). I don’t think it’s really worth 30-50 Canadian dollars though. It’s quite expensive in my opinion. I think that if you’re a beginner or like using bright vivid colours, then go for it! I also think that it is better for illustrators! So yeah, that’s just my opinion! But u totally understand yours too!
But you see, Crayola is not a chunky supply that needs to be store specifically nor does it smell when you work with it.

I was gifted the 24 color Himi gouache set with white mixing pallet and 3 brushes, I wanted it because every artist had it and was raving about it even though I have so many tube gouache I guess I fell victim to a trend. I never thought about just making my own mix of tube gouache into my own cube container pallet like yours in this video after watching this video I had a "okurr" moment. I wish I would have discovered you sooner I would of gotten other supplies I need because it's been like 3 weeks since I have been using my Himi set and sadly I'm not not in love. I constantly have to reactivate the colors because I'm always getting up to do something. I guess it's ok when I am not interrupted but there's kids in my household meaning so many distractions anyways keep up the great art!

Ooooohhhh please do a review on arteza gouache . I'm so happy to find another Canadian who understands the Canadian price issues, and I'm not sure if I trust the arteza brand because it seems everyone is sponsored or trying to get sponsored.
I’d love tooo, I’m so curious if it’s superior to reeves and Turner Design, but I already have tubes of gouache I’m not done with yet and the Miya himi gouache to finish 😂 I do know a Canada based artist that has used them professionally and loved them, but she’s on Instagram and switched to W&N pro gouache (@aminxarts)!
I have the big arteza set and I like it, except that most of the colors are not lightfast. if you don't care about that though they are really nice for the price
It’s better than reeves and turner for streakiness, but it’s by no means an artist grade. It’s excellent student grade. Probably the best student grade gouache I’ve tried.
I have a Transom palette that’s just like that one. It’s how I exclusively use my gouache. Open the palette once a week and air it, then mist with distilled water, close back up. This will keep your gouache moist, usable, and free of mold. (*DISTILLED* water is the key)
Can also use boiled water with couple drops of clove oil if don’t have distilled water at hand..that’s what I use for my water media,make own water,boiled water and couple drops of clove oil and glycerin.Mixing in water spray bottle I use directly to spray on gouache or watercolours and inside waterbrushes(got lesson that even those will grow mould inside otherwise) so there is more than just one way 😉

@@ChristinaTodd1970 cheers,I also if have at hand prefer distilled water,but it’s quite expensive on delivery and not on sale in local shop where I live,So boiled water works just fine,have not had any issues.Clove oil also works good in many other ways,add to massage oils for damaged skin,psoriasis and so on,when there is damage of skin,so it do t allows to develop infections.In burner couple drops,good for coughs,air in house..drop can be applied on top of growing,painful acne spot,so it’s good to have it at hand in home and tiny bottle of it costs me less than getting gallon of distilled water
I usually just scoop out with a palette knife, the colors I want to use onto my palette, so then there's no contaminating the cups.
This is made for Chinese art university students who need to paint A LOT EVERYDAY. They also cant be bothered to mix so they also need to have a loooooot of premade colors at their disposal. You are not the market for this product nor am I.

**I noticed that most who bought the HIMI set remove the top from each cup which I guess could cause it to dry out? I tried doing that with some of them and I got the drying effect so I just keep a plastic wrap on it.. but whenever I keep the plastic cover on the cups they stay wet.. (just thought I'd mention this)**
I have that set. I just put a layer of cling wrap directly over the paint then put the lid. 2 weeks later it is still as good as new.
I considered getting into jelly gouache so I'm glad you made this video! I use gouache more like watercolor in the sense that I dont mind if it dries and I have to rewet it, so making my own set has been very usable for me! I've liked the arteza gouache. I dont have to fight it and they mix well when I know what I'm doing. (My mom got me the HUGE set of ateza gouache for xmas and there are a lot of colors, most that are mixes of 2 to sometimes 5 pigments so its mostly user error if I mess up) but those issues would totally bug me with the jelly pallet for sure, especially if you can't rewet it...
hope you remember your mix ratios thats why i tend to avoid paletting premixes because i dont wanna rely on a color i wouldn't be able to recreate perfectly later

If I were to purchase these jelly gouache today, I'd use it for direct alla prima works and sketches.
Seen too many vids on YT of young artists using it too much like transparent watercolours,
not understanding the advantages of gouache.
Be cautious not to confuse colouring with painting.
And better to scoop the pigment onto a pallette with a painting knife, unless you are painting plein air, and want to keep your tools to a minimum.
The slow drying time of these jelly gouache would make it great for colour mixing and value control on the pallette
to produce grays.
In commercial illustration, depending on the project and the client, drying times do determine which type of pigment the artist will use.

The mediums you use should be the least of your worries for now.

i just spray my himi set with water it reactivates easily and even when bone dry it reactivates no problem
To keep it moisture, like the him I gouache, you shouldn't remove the cellophane lid that covers it. I have the set just recently have it for like, 3 days I think. Never have I experienced it drying up. Glad that I was able to bump unto the comment section somewhere in fb before my gouache came. I almost opened it all. Though it has an advantage about the accessibility of it if ever you're in a hurry something but yeah, the downside really is that it dries up faster.

This video was honestly just to point out to others that don’t want to pay $44 that there’s an alternative that works a bit better in my opinion and that the set doesn’t work for absolutely everyone’s preferences xD

I think part of the cost difference is simply the Canadian exchange rate. I have a friend who lives in Canada and everything costs more for her than it does for me because of the difference in value of the U.S. dollar vs. the Canadian one. She also gets paid less than I do, because of the exchange rate. We are both writers and get paid from Amazon and other booksellers.

I have the arrtx pallet, that is basically the same as the myia, and my doesn't dry out fast, like i can let it open for a day and doesn't dry and when I know I'm not gonna use for a long time i just put a little bit of water on top and its brand new later. Maybe the lead of your pallet came broken or something.
I mean I got the himi paints cheap enough to not care much about the drying out, I do spray it with water every time I use tbh but it's not a bother
I personally really enjoy these paints however I wanted to watch the video to see the other side and I do see your points and respect your perspective!

I feel you on the dry and crumbly part of the jelly gouache. My first himi gouache palette got so crumbly and only recently I was able to slightly reactivate it, but it’s still crumbly and I have to continuously redip my paintbrush in water. With my handmade gouache palette which I didn’t add some of the jelly gouache into, I’m able to work without a time limit so it doesn’t dry out.
honestly your complaints are valid. the container is not airtight and it dries very easily and theres not much creative freedom with a pre assigned pallete so although I'm still using the set I understand your complaints completely I really liked the finished piece btw, youre very talented :)

To be honest I have been obsessed with the HIMI Miya Gouache set for the last month. I have been wanting to get some and my bf has recently purchased them as a gift and surprised me with them. I have been looking into these paints religiously the last month and the efforts it takes to maintenance and keep them from molding and getting all gross. I have read some other people's comments about getting the paints to learn to not be as stingy with the amount of paint they use. I think that these paints have the potential for greatness in their own unique way. But, this video definitely opened my eyes to some not 100% pro to con opinions on the HIMI Miya's!
I am panicky about my supplies too. I think it's a personality quirk more than anything. I wish I could let go and be totally messy with my paints. All my pallets a perfectly clean. Cuz I can't even waste the paint that get on or left on the pallet.
I put the palette on, stick in a snap lock bag then click the top lid on... mine haven’t dried out, are still juicy and are not mouldy 14+ months on 🤗🤗🤗

So many people will buy things just cause of the hype surrounding it. We need more people who don't try hard to "like" things just because it's popular 🥰

I don't think liking a palette is jumping into the hype though? buying maybe, but she did that. But several people actually like this palette and not because of the hype, but because the colors are pretty, not streaky and pretty opaque. I've seen several beautiful paintings with it. The thing is, when something is good and affordable, it's pretty normal that at some point someone will find out and it'll become really popular. You just have to take care of it, spray some water after using it and you should be fine. One of my favorite art youtubers, arleebean, loves this palette and she has it for over 1 and 1/2 year. She's pretty technical when it comes to paints, so it's a nice opinion on the subject. But yeah, the first thing is that before buying it you should kind of understand what's the purpose o this kind of palette and if it fits you as an artist. Some people prefer the tube gouaches and thats ok too.

I think my issue with it was the patchiness it gave off- always drying quick and the paint flakes off the palette. Another would be the roughness it put on my artwork and became scratchy once I finished. On the other hand, I do enjoy using it because of the nice opaque colors, but $44?! My bf got mine for $18 on Amazon ;-; aside from that, I’m new here n wanna say that I like your channel and your work. (,: (that’s my rant)

I was buying the paints and was searching up the paints and reviews and so when I saw this I was like okay this is a no, so I didn’t click on it but later I did actually take the time to look at this video and I did really watch the video and I am happy that I was actually watching this video even if it was something that I at first didn’t want to watch
I'm rewatching this since it popped up in my recommend again. Also I don't want to be mean or anything just had info I wanted to share. This is for more like people like me and were worried about these drying out or really want to try the himi gouache. I just put the himi gouache set and the pallet they used on my amazon wishlist recently. Because my firend basically did the same thing here but with that one and it seems fine over the last month. If that is anyone's concern. I haven't had a chance to use them so don't quote me tho(Edit: i've had them for 7 months now and Ive add water to them once because the colors on the outside dry faster than the rest and they are still nice and wet. I have stirred them a few times tho without water. If you're inthe U.S or somewhere where the price is similar it is defiantly worth it.) , it just seems that way from what I can tell. And for people in the U.S. i think is $23 here on Amazon if your worried about price.
No worries you did not come off as mean or anything! The set in my opinion is definitely worth 18-23 dollars! I feel like I should've mentioned that in the actual video, because it comes with a huge amount of paint and the paint quality had no issues for me! If only TH-cam had an edit voice over/video feature loll xD
Too be honest, I wouldnt use Turner because it's an acrylic based gouache. I like being able to reactivate my paint.
I have both Himi and Turner, I love both but extra love Turner!! I actually bought the wrong Turners I got the Acryl Gouache instead of the design set. The acryl ones are not water activated after dry, the design ones are from what I’ve read as are Himi. I’ll buy the design set soon and add it to my way too big (and growing) collection. 😂
I picked up one of the HIMI sets and I really, really don’t care for it. I gave it to my daughters to play with. I could see setting up something like this instead. I think it would work much better for me.
Ok so I'm confused. The main advantage of gouache over acrylic paints is that it doesn't matter so much if they dry out, gouache is reactivated with water. There's not that time constraint to cover them or fear of mixing too much paint because it can be saved in a container and reactivated later.
As for the contamination point, it's simple enough to avoid, just have a small palette knife and a damp washcloth handy then use the palette knife to scoop out some of the paint onto a mixing palette, wiping the knife on the cloth between colours - only put paintbrush to pan (or pot/compartment in this case) if you're wanting pure colour and your brush is clean.
I think these mini palettes are great if you do find that you use a certain few colours all of the time, for example if you paint a ton of landscapes then having a bunch of earthy-er toned greens/blues/browns/greys premixed is always going to be a great idea to save time and effort when you want to go paint some inspiration you just had.
The jelly gouache thing went viral because it was fun and had novelty value, plus ease of use if you wanted to buy one with lots of premixed colours so you don't need to mix your own. If they are used and taken care of properly then they are no different to gouache in a tube, bottle or sachet. There are ways to prolong the time between use and them drying out such as misting them with water every week or two (depending on temps where you live/time of year etc) or placing a damp (use your mister to avoid excess saturation) paper towel over the top of the pots before you close the lid or plastic wrap before adding the lid, keeping them out of the sun/hot/humid/overly dry areas when you store them away or even just transferring them to a container like the one you bought that has a better seal.
I also agree that they're overpriced (or at least we're when they first came out) but that's trends/novelty value in general for you. When you consider how large those pots are (30ml) compared with the usual sized tubes (12ml) they aren't that expensive in the end.

My himi gouache set didn't dry out until like a month and that was with a broken palette. However, I also think the price point rose as the set grew more popular. How much did you pay for the tubes?
I’m sure you can just make a spray with glycerine and water. That’s what they use normally to help gouache stay more moist.

omg glad I've found your video, I have seen a ton of videos about the Himi Gouache set and its trending so I've even considered buying one but then again after vids and comments of people commenting on how dry they get and how hard is to reactivate them I was put a bit off since I was unsure on how much I would use them and if it would be a good investment for me. I usually use watercolors as my main medium but have started to play and try a bit around gouache too, so I was even considering doing a palette set of my own as well, good to know honnest reviews like this, and am sure everyone's else experience is different as you've mentioned but everyone has the right to their opinion. After seeing this vid am more set on making my own than trying a manufactured set like the Himi set is, maybe one day I'll try it out, maybe I won't but for now trying out small and with other brands might be beneficial 😊 also really liked your artwork 💗

I don't have the Miya Himi Gouache, but I do have a dry Gouache from Caran Arche yet I didn't use it a lot because I enjoy the transparency of watercolors. Is nice to hear different opinions from the same product and I always think the artist has to use whatever it feels better for them, so cheap or expensive it doesn't care, I saw amazing work of art with just a Bic pen and is a really cheap material.
I spritz my set with water like every 15 minutes it's open like a helicopter parent of a finicky orchid. I think part of the fun is Keeping The Paints In Peak Form lol... Also anyone having problems with the seal, I noticed that getting a little paint where it seals actually helped a lot, the paint stays sticky from my spritzing & then almost glues the seal together upon closing.
Thanks for fueling the spritzing obsession by informing me I can put even more kinds & colors of gouache in additional sealing palettes 😂

Himi is next on my list i just need to finish my old gouache tubes. Yeah not a fan of ultra big jelly cups but they are the most bang for buck gouache paints. I'll just transfer some on my lighter 33-well palette. Plus i prefer premixing my browns since I'm lazy and don't want to reach for my tubes while painting.
Anyway gouache on palettes almost always dries as some point. Good thing about it is you could just rewet it and make it go back to its jelly consistency.
Glad I wasn't the only one who had issues. I bought the set after all the hype to try and get back into gouache and ended up selling it because of how much I struggled with it. I bought Arteza gouache instead and put it in a palette (I use both dry and wet gouache). The palette was just so bulky and the colours weren't great. I even tried putting the Miya gouache into another palette and I still didn't like it.
That pallette won't keep them from drying out, you need a stay wet pallette
I spent a lot of money on a Holbein gouache set. Swatched the colors, tightened the tubes as tight as I could and forgot about them for just one month. A month later 2 of the colors had dried up in the tubes. Tubes are not always great IMO. I'd rather buy something like the himi gouache and then get air tight containers to keep the colors in.

I know I'm late to the party but I just found you. You probably already know this but Masterson Sta Wet Palette . Small size - air tight - has a sponge under paper. Works for acrylic for weeks, why not gouache too ? Love your work .

So I kind of agree with the issues that come with the palette, so I don’t think that they suit me. Not to mention that they are ridiculously expensive in my country (around 38€) and they were not even the original Himi set. I had the chance to be able to work with daler Rowney, which I absolutely adore and the arteza ones. Comparing all three, I like the workflow with tube ones better. But it comes down to preferences. My dislike for the himi guache version might be influenced by the fact that I struggle with keeping them a certain consistency.
Oh, I just saw you mixed the Himi gouache with the Turner - not sure. but I don't think they have the same formulation. Since we are now almost a year later, how did the mixed paint perform?
Yess for a few of the colours I mixed them together without really think it through lol! 😂 After a year though, I feel like they work well together, I didn’t notice anything odd tbh and I experienced basically zero cracking in the palette and when mixing colours!

Yeah, if you're paying $44 for those paints I could see why you're so disappointed in them. They're great if you can get them at the cheaper price they're meant to be sold at but the fact that they've gotten so expensive means that you're literally paying to be "trendy". Not a nice thought, imo.

personally the miya himi set works better with how i work, because i travel a lot, and bringing all the tubes with me and the case is a hassle, i like to have a small amount of supplys i can bring places. but i can understand why you would prefer this over the miya himi set!! all opinions matter and i respect yours

Thanks for the extra info on those jelly guaches. I’ve been contemplating for a while now if it is something for me or not but that drying out think really bothers me. I have the exact same palette you bought to make your own guache set but I bought it for acrylics and tested it out with watercolor first (thank goodness) and even with the watercolor I have that knowing fact that they are drying up as I paint if I can paint for a while. So thankfully my brain came through for me on that front and my palette isn’t ruined by acrylic paints slowly drying up each time I’d use them lol
I just ordered mine at Php 410, which is $8.53 and I'll probably receive it by next week. I thought it was expensive since I'm a student and still starting out on a different medium but looking at the price of your purchase 😞 that's too much for my almost empty wallet😂.
I returned my Himi set after struggling to open the containers and having paint pour through the opening onto my hands or not being able to get the foil off at all except with needle nose pliers. What a mess! I hated them. I might try Arteza. Thanks for the fun review and the fantastic artwork! 😺
i opened mine fine.. It might be that the factory that it got made from used a different glue or a different amount of glue? or that the way you opened them was messy... I eat jelly cups so maybe i was already used to opening cups like that, and it was a different situation for the both of us
I have 2 of those small heavy pallets and put all my gouache in it. They do keep well in these pallets. I love mine.
Whats the difference between acryl gouache and regular gouache paints? Ive been looking for turner designers gouache paints and came across both acryl and regular gouaches and now im like stuck! Dunno what one to choose?! >.
Acrylic dries faster and is more durable/ long lasting. Gouache also has a more brittle matte finish. Also gouache costs more than acrylic. ☺ Hope this was helpful even though your comment is 2 months old currently 😁

Ibe had my himi gouche for abt 6 months and i noticed that if you rehydrate it with water , itt will dry faster than before may because the binder that they used has some slow dryying properties to it :

i actually prefer the drying of the paints and i left the lid just sitting on top instead of fully closed for a few days to dry out because the wet paint bothered me so much, although i live in an extremely humid place so i never have and issue rewetting anything. i did notice the colors in the palette are kinda weird though and it’s tedious to mix what i want but i don’t mind because i have some tube gouache and im still just learning. also i saw that you said you got the set for $44 CAD which is just ridiculous lol and i would also expect more from a palette that expensive (i bought mine for about $23 USD)
Um you can just dee pot the himi paint in to that type of pallet and just seal up the original hemi gouache and use your palette you just made and you can save your paints . I store mine just fine to stay wet . But thats my OCD I guess . And plus they have a medium that keeps it wet. But I feel the same way you feel.
i had miya himi gouache set and i loveee it soo much and it hasnt dry up on me cause i bought the spray in the same brand and it worksss likee magic for keeping it moist and to reactivate it. in ind it only cost me like.. 2$ (Rp25000) . the set it self was like 10$ (Rp160000)
✨Pro Tip✨: If you buy it in England, the 24 set is only like 25 pounds which is quite cheap compared to other companies 18 sets. I recommend asking a friend in England to get if for you or buy it with English Amazon (you might have to convert your currency’s money into pounds) and the rest is history. That is what a friend in Scotland did and they saved✨ *ALOT*✨ of money.
Edit: you can also get a replacement if the box is broken cause the customer service is good. Mine came broke and they gave me a replacement. The box is usually airtight when it ain’t broke :/ (I hadn’t opened any of the jelly cups so keep that in mind). If it comes with a broken container, don’t open the cups and get a replacement from HIMI/MIYA. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Apparently, Miya sells a revitalizing spritzer for their gouache sets. I just saw a review of that. Personally, I think that that’s just an additional and unnecessary expense 🤷♀️

I’ve seen a refill of the white gouache for sale online (shopee/lazada) but they’re always sold out.
When I decided to try gouache, I wanted to buy the miya himi (which at the time, was about 800-1,200 PhP/18.00-24.00 USD). But after some research, I opted to buy a 12 tube set of Reeves instead which was cheaper and was good quality for someone whose just beginning/curious about gouache.
Yess I also started with reeves!! I could kinda recommend Arteza Gouache as a step up after Reeves in the future! I know people who’ve used it for commissions and professional work! It’s not as great as Windsor and newton pro gouache of course but it’s better than the brand I have rn which is Turner Design!
