I wouldn’t say exactly because I can tell it’s quite personal to you but it’s very fascinating and interesting. absolutely adore it! keep going!
WOW this is the first time I look at a painting and say, " woah I know exactly how that feels". I couldn't explain this feeling but this painting is the exact explanation. Its cool how when words cant express a feeling, art can.
You really inspire me so much. I've been struggling with this paint set but seeing the beautiful work you make with it makes me want to give it another chance.
I bought this HIMI gouache set a few months ago..I'm new to gouache and alot of people here on TH-cam said it was good for beginners so I decided to try it..it was good to see how well these paints still looked after being reactivated(and I like that, that they can be reactivated with just a bit of water) because even though they weren't expensive,I wouldn't want to have to throw them out after a while because they were unuseable..very helpful video 😊
This was a great video! I was so anxious about my paints because I was afraid they would dry out too fast. That piece you created was beautiful, I've never seen this type of art before but it's so impactful. Around 8:48 I actually started tearing up because of the emotion I was feeling coming off the piece. The contrast between blue and red is gorgeous it pushed that emotion even more. Because of that I kind of wish you hadn't added the teardrops at the end because I really don't think it was needed. The emotion was pushed through perfectly just by the shape of the eyes and the color palette, adding the teardrops for me became too literal like now you're telling me that this person is sad instead of letting me feel it for myself. I am not trying to be rude this is just something I noticed and thought I would share. I'm in art school right now and critiques are a big part of that and something I've noticed myself doing a lot more. Again this piece is absolutely gorgeous and I'm not trying to be rude
Hmm, I thought they were light reflecting off the cheekbone- they're kind of too off to the side for tears, and it would be a bit on the nose for a piece like this. The same colour is used for other highlights across the face, hence why I came to that conclusion.
@@rosar.4293 there are paint making tutorials that use honey, and I've seen a tip Lindsay of the channel Frugal Crafter gave in one of her videos that glycerin helps revive a dead marker (watercolor markers if I remember correctly) So my guess is that both glycerin and honey help keeping the paint's consistency or its moisture? I'm not sure
Honey and glycerin helps to give moisture back. Honey is more on preventing molds as it's antibacterial, and glycerin is for keeping it moist for extended periods of time, like a facial moisturizer
@@rosar.4293 If you mix a little bit of glycerin with water and spray it on your paints, they won't crack when they dry out and will take longer to dry out. They stay kind of sticky.

I have the miya Himi set and the Arrtx set of the jelly gouache I got some for an artist friend at the same time and we have both been painting with it ever since. I love this paint, it layer's beautifully and blends and mixes well and they really work well on black paper as well. They stay wet for a long time thanks to the way the box and lid is designed, and they are great value for the quanitity of paint you get in each cup. I like to work in impasto in acrylics and these gouache can to a degree be used in a similar way which I love. These paints allow you to work boldly.I like how just the fact both the Himi and Arrtx having 18 colours encourage you to mix to get more colours and both brands work well together and having both gives a really good workable palette of colours.Tube gouache can dry in the tubes which can lead to wastage, but these paints stay wet for a long time and can be revived easily which makes them outlast tube gouache.I think these jelly gouache sets are an inspired invention and it's easy to see why they have become so popular. They are really great to work with and even when revived retain their creamy texture when painting and don't lose their intensity of colour either when revived,it is best to use distilled water to revive them,so that mould doesn't grow in them when the lid is closed again. The fact you've had your sets so long and they can still be revived shows what great paints they actually are. Your painting is really emotive and shows how quickly these brilliant paints can build up a finished piece.Hope 2021 brings you and your fmaily lots on new directions and that you art continues to evolve and that new inspiration finds you in the new year and thank you for a year (2020) of brilliant and inspiring videos.
I have 2 sets of himi, one is the 24 color set and I bought the 18 color set last Christmas as a gift for myself. It's a secondhand set and it's all dried up. The seller sold it to me for a very low price. I finished reactivating them yesterday and the quality is still the same. 🥺✊🏻 i just started using gouache last November, and I fell inlove with himi the first time I tried it. ❤️
Yes I have the himi gouache as well. I simply wet the brush and wet the paint that I'm will use. That way I can control how pigmented I want the paint to be. They are a lot of fun to use. Had mine for two years as well.
I haven't really touched a pen in about two months because I lacked time and also art did not feel like a thing to me anymore. Yet somehow watching your videos always motivate me to sit down and rediscover my joy in drawing and painting again. So thank you so much
I can't believe I missed this! Ahh~ New video for the new year. Thank you Arleesha for making my 2020 bearable with your inspiring painting videos💖 Can't wait to see you grow more as an artist! I love love your art, hope you and your family had a blast this holidays. Happy new year!!!
Your work inspires me so much! I wouldn't have tried gouache, because before your channel I really didn't have it in my awareness. I was (and am) a watercolorist first before I left kind of the art world so to speak for a decade after High School. After painting with gouache and really falling back in love with painting, I also discovered Poscas and how much I love working with those. Coming back to art especially this last year has been so amazing. Thank you so much for posting, and for being part of that journey for me. (: It's hard to explain in words, but it means so much. (Also this piece turned out so awesome. The contrast between the very icy background and the reds in the eyes is very striking. Great work!)
Thank you so much for this video. Also surprisingly my prussian blue also never dried out even after 1 year and i was shocked when you said yours didnt either, looks like that blue is truly SPECIAL! 😉
Glad I found this vid. I've been looking for some videos for artists who had let their jelly gouache sit for maybe years instead of just months and/or sit unused for an extended period. I have some Magicfly brand jelly gouache (that's no longer made, I think Himi bought them out,) that's about 3 years old. I did the same thing to revive it and a bit of glycerin is recommended too, which I haven't tried yet. But I thought it was still pretty good after sitting for a long time. Jelly gouache is a fun painting medium. So really, if you're not gonna be using it for a long time, it's fine to let it dry and crack...the drying out can help prevent it from getting moldy too. If mine had developed mold, I'd just pitch it. No great loss. I wouldn't use it for original paintings to sell or hang on the wall for a long time bc of unknown lightfastness and archival quality. But you can always make prints if you do something you want to preserve or sell and just to enjoy painting freely with it! 👍 p.s. Currently Himi is selling a pastel set of 18 colors on Amazon. I bought it and it is really nice. The soft colors are wonderful. I've only swatched them out, but so far, so good 😊
So, something I've done with my Himi set , was stick cellophane over it. It's been about a year and it's still mostly moist. I sprayed the tops of the dryer ones and they reactivated so well! I was impressed for sure.
I appreciate you sharing your vulnerability with us. It helped me realize that it’s okay to demonstrate how I feel in a painting even if it may be hard to do emotionally. Thank you
this is super useful for me, I just got an assignment where I have to use different traditional mediums and I've been thinking about digging out my old himi palette and vaguely dreading how they've fared over the past year of sitting in my desk... good to know I can bring them back to life!!
i bought the himi set myself 4 christmas,, literally the most satisfying purchase ever i been hyped about this pallete since 2018 lol its v fun 2 use,, alsoi feel like ik more about color theory now esp w dat magenta
I am so glad to know the paints last for a very long time. I have always wanted some but thought they were unusable after only a few months. I love how you paint, although this painting was difficult for me to see. It reminds me of someone who was burned; with the red around the eyes and the white like gauze or medical wrapping.
I recently purchased a set but haven’t opened them yet for two reasons, the first I was worried they would dry out before I got much use of them, so good to know you can bring them back to life, and the second is because I’ve never used gouache. I am fairly new to painting and am nervous to get started with them. Thank you 😊
Lol me too im getting a set of gouache, and thought abt getting this one but its going to be my first gouache so i thought to start with something cheaper so i wont have to worry abt that my art will be bad and that i had just waisted the gouache so you know, im just gonna use cheaper ones first lol
I got my himi set back in june, and living in the south east, its normally pretty humid here so my set is almost overly moist sometimes and even when they do dry out a little a quick spray of water and putting the lid back on fixes them overnight ... I find it so interesting how the paint is affected by where you live Also I wish my favorite thing to draw are eyes because I still haven't mastered the art of drawing two eyes that look somewhat similar in size and shape... my favorite thing to draw are definitely lips ALSO HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE :)
Sparkling Wine oof that sucks... since the himi set is pretty airtight I have never gotten any mold in it ... sometimes I do purposely let the top layers slightly dry out so that if I’m carrying it with me some place else in my room the colors aren’t contaminating each other and to possibly avoid any chance of molding
Sparkling Wine Also since this is gouache, it might have different binders than the watercolors you have... it might be that your watercolors were made of a honey base or something that’s more organic and that’s why it grew mold more easily... I’m no professional though
I totally agree about the eyes, I get real emotional whenever I do a eye portrait because they can portray so much with out needing the rest of the face, eyes are so beautiful.
Question: How is the quality of the first paintings done with these (in Arleebean's case, now after almost 2yrs) ?? Have the colors changed, deteriorated, etc.?
Mine are almost two years old. I got them when quarantine in the us first began so march 2019, and they are still the same quality. You have to put more time into rehydrating the paint if you don’t paint with gouache a lot (like me) but the quality is quite literally the same.
I've had this same set for about a year. I constantly have to do this. I've started putting tin foil over it then I put on the lid. It helps keep the moisture in a little bit.
I have been using miya Himi Gouache for like a year maybe, and when I don't use them for a while they become really hard and yeah I reactivate them similarly. I find this gouache set awesome, there is plenty of paint that I don't have to worry about running out of it. And the results are satisfactory!
i am mostly a watercolor artist, and i was really thinking on buy a himi set, and this video was really helpfull cause now i know that i won't waste the set if stop using it. Thank you
I've found that adding some drops of glycerin to the paints when wet and stirring it in has also helped to keep them relatively creamy! I've had them for 4 years now and theyre still wonderful practice supplies
Ive had this set for a few months now, but when i first got it, i mixed about 2-3 drops of pure glycerine in each jelly cup. Whenever the paints start to crack or dry up again, get a spray bottle, and mix 1 parts pure glycerin to 3 parts clean water (distilled, purified, etc) and shake well. Spray this on each cup and mix well till you get the same consistency as if you've first opened them. Hope this helps! ^^✌

I bought poster paints when I was in 8th grade and now I am a senior and I still use them to this day, granted I technically turned them into watercolors so I can ration it during lockdown, I still think its cool that they have enough pigment that I can mix them to a base and still be colorful.

(but also just for context, I don't use them everyday so the spraying doesn't happen often. Probably why I haven't noticed any issues, but still wouldn't want to give bad advice to others)
@@trishakhat1703 oh man, I've been worried about getting mold on my himi gouache! So far I dont think I've had any, I hardly use my set so it's normally dry. I wondered if spraying them with filtered water would affect it, that's all I got :')
I wonder if letting them out to dry a bit is a bad thing or? I'm still new to these but they look so exciting!
this painting reminds me of people who always tell u they're ok/good but their eyes tell for them a lot more
I’ve been debating whether or not dipping my toes into gouache and if this Miya set is going to work on me since I usually leave my art supplies forgotten and jump to another brand or medium... watching you reactive the paint gives me hope that I will not loose my money if I get it! 😊
I thought you meant you had gouache, and you thought about literally putting your feet into it.
While I don't own this specific set, I love watching you paint in gouache. I had to purchase $100+ of winsor & newton for school, and i want to get my money's worth by learning to use it in my personal professional work as well. Your style and technique is so fun to watch, and super inspiring!
Happy new year! ❤
$100+ on w&n gouache?
@@bluestblue435 Yep. It balanced out, considering there wasn't a textbook needed, and those cost about the same.
that drawing is very beautiful, when you were talking about how it meant a lot to you emotionally, I then started to analyze the meaning it from the context that was given to me.
I haven't used my HIMI gouache in forever! Maybe I should take it out and use it for my bullet journal this year if you can reactivate it so easily!
This draw expresses so much emotions, I’m just impressed by your talent to let go your emotions into a piece
painting like this is just so therapeutic ...both watching the process and getting involved in one of your own
The way she painted it. It look liked she just putting paints but the end result was amazing. The depth. Ugh.
I cover mine with sedan wrap and then the lid, or press and seal. I also heard you can put glycerin or honey in it
Can you plz elaborate. I’ve never heard of putting glycerin or honey in paint before! 😲😲😲
@@rosar.4293 there are paint making tutorials that use honey, and I've seen a tip Lindsay of the channel Frugal Crafter gave in one of her videos that glycerin helps revive a dead marker (watercolor markers if I remember correctly)
So my guess is that both glycerin and honey help keeping the paint's consistency or its moisture? I'm not sure
Honey and glycerin helps to give moisture back. Honey is more on preventing molds as it's antibacterial, and glycerin is for keeping it moist for extended periods of time, like a facial moisturizer
@@seraffym_ Thank you!
@@rosar.4293 If you mix a little bit of glycerin with water and spray it on your paints, they won't crack when they dry out and will take longer to dry out. They stay kind of sticky.
In the thumbnail just those eyes makes it look like War Hammer Titan's eyes.
When I finally pluck up the courage to try gouache, this is the set I’ll get :)
Arlee i’ll never be tired of you paint eyes, they’re always mesmerizing.
I've never seen someone paint before and i really like this one because its rlly satisfying to look at.
Wow, I honestly love how this painting makes me feel. When I look at it I can't tell if I want to cry or look away. You perfectly captured the mental and emotional vibe of 2020.
this came up on my recommended and i have to say, i live your voice so much it's so soothing to me 🥺
Heya just wanted to say your channel has helped me loads, I love watching you paint and your voice is so relaxing when I’m having a tough time. Thank you for making this channel and being so kind and amazing
Awww, this is so sweet! Thank you for taking the time to comment. I'm honored to have been able to help in any way. :)
It did hurt my heart when the purple went into the yellow hahaha I just ordered and am waiting for royal talens xf gouache and super excited, I've never tried gouache before. Glad your well, take care from North Bay Ontario Canada :)
I've had my set for maybe 6 months and I recently added water and stirred it in to keep them fresh.... Good as new! Aside from a little cross-contamination 😅
I can’t. Stop. Watching. This! No joke I replayed this 4 times
You still replaying?
@@adrianaandrade6304 yup
I was trying to find a review on himi gouache and halfway through watching this, it feels like I'm sitting through a therapy session. I love your painting by the way, thankyou for sharing, well, pretty much everything!
I really admire people who can draw/paint as i cant and find it super difficult to come up with ideas when i try 🥺💖💖
You are painting poetry. Your painting makes me so much emotional, I don't know if I feel uncomfortable watching these eyes or if in the contrary I find them comforting.. I just feel peaceful looking at them I don't want to stop staring. Thank you
Ive been eyeing this set for the longest time, i just bought it, its cominh tomorrow, and im super excited but i wanted to watch a few videos first, i saw your original video and then this one and its super reassuring about my purchase
This is the first video I've watched in 2021 💖 definitely the right way to start 2021
So thank you so much
I finally purchased one! And I literally cannot wait till it gets here!
Your voice is so calming and lovely 🤧
i read the thumbnail as “STILL GOOP?” out of the corner of my eye
still makes sense LMAO
I can't believe I missed this! Ahh~ New video for the new year. Thank you Arleesha for making my 2020 bearable with your inspiring painting videos💖 Can't wait to see you grow more as an artist! I love love your art, hope you and your family had a blast this holidays. Happy new year!!!
Ahhh, thank you so much! It's been an honor making videos for you this year. :) I hope you are doing well too!! Happy new year!
I've only swatched them out, but so far, so good 😊
I bought this set because it was super popular among youtubers and now gouache has become my favorite technique
So, something I've done with my Himi set , was stick cellophane over it. It's been about a year and it's still mostly moist. I sprayed the tops of the dryer ones and they reactivated so well! I was impressed for sure.
Your voice is so soothing and relaxing/calming
I love art like this because it can be interpreted in multiple ways.
Happy new yearrrr!
i cant wait to see another paint-making video! 😄 but this one was really interesting 💜
your voice is so soothing!
Thanks for this! I recently picked up this set for $12 on Amazon! Yay
i bought the himi set myself 4 christmas,, literally the most satisfying purchase ever i been hyped about this pallete since 2018 lol its v fun 2 use,, alsoi feel like ik more about color theory now esp w dat magenta
I am so glad to know the paints last for a very long time. I have always wanted some but thought they were unusable after only a few months. I love how you paint, although this painting was difficult for me to see. It reminds me of someone who was burned; with the red around the eyes and the white like gauze or medical wrapping.
Thanks for updating us! I bought this too and haven’t used it in a while so I was a little worried about it being dry.
Eyes really are the windows to the soul, thank you for sharing this piece and the HIMI tips!
I got my himi set back in june, and living in the south east, its normally pretty humid here so my set is almost overly moist sometimes and even when they do dry out a little a quick spray of water and putting the lid back on fixes them overnight ... I find it so interesting how the paint is affected by where you live
Also I wish my favorite thing to draw are eyes because I still haven't mastered the art of drawing two eyes that look somewhat similar in size and shape... my favorite thing to draw are definitely lips
ALSO HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE :)
Did you had any problems with mold in it? I live in a very humid place and my watercolor got a superficial mold in it
Sparkling Wine oof that sucks... since the himi set is pretty airtight I have never gotten any mold in it ... sometimes I do purposely let the top layers slightly dry out so that if I’m carrying it with me some place else in my room the colors aren’t contaminating each other and to possibly avoid any chance of molding
Sparkling Wine Also since this is gouache, it might have different binders than the watercolors you have... it might be that your watercolors were made of a honey base or something that’s more organic and that’s why it grew mold more easily... I’m no professional though
I ordered one of these a few days ago and im SO excited to use it
i just got my set- watching videos to see how to use it. thank you for the good videos
I think the best artwork are the ones that evoke emotions inside you 💕
I totally agree about the eyes, I get real emotional whenever I do a eye portrait because they can portray so much with out needing the rest of the face, eyes are so beautiful.
Beautiful painting! I love the emotion in all of your work.
Thank you ,I just bought this set and I thought :"hey won't it just dry up " but this means that it will last me for a long time . love your vid
I've had this same set for about a year. I constantly have to do this. I've started putting tin foil over it then I put on the lid. It helps keep the moisture in a little bit.
I love this painting!!! It made me feel so relaxed🥰🥰
Thank you
I have the same set and it got dry for two years and I was thinking about throwing it away but I’m glad I can restore it again!!

I hope you'll be back soon to your passion I know you're struggling with several artblocks, too much procrastination and other problems we all face. I know you can fight it! Don't doubt on yourself create masterpiece again 🌻
I badly need this right now, thank you so much.
I needed this me thoo tysmm ❤️
Thank you so much :(
I’m glad I’m watching reviews for this because I want it so much but I wasn’t sure
Thank you for making this video! I was afraid I'd ruined my set because it got so dry. It's such a relief to see that it can be reactivated after so long!
Loved seeing this and I think we can all relate to the feelings.
I’ve been thinking of getting my paints out again, after a year I was worried about if they were going to be ok!
Feel better…thanks for sharing!
I haven’t painted in over 5 years, I stopped doing art because of personal reasons that caused me to lose my emotional capacity for art.
The himi Guache pallets are making me want to paint again, even though I’ve never been good at water color… I’ve always been an acrylic painter.
It’s good to know that if I do buy this product and can’t find the capacity to paint, the paint can survive
I love gouache because it does act a lot like acrylics but also you can re-wet it and blend it right in the paper. Good luck to you!
your videos make me so happy, when a new video comes out i'm running to see ... love the himi jelly goauche
I bought poster paints when I was in 8th grade and now I am a senior and I still use them to this day, granted I technically turned them into watercolors so I can ration it during lockdown, I still think its cool that they have enough pigment that I can mix them to a base and still be colorful.
We had a gouache set sitting for 7 years in art school - someone just left it - and we still managed to reactivate it with lukewarm boiled water.
Wow!! This piece is breathtaking 🥺 the feelings it gives me are so overwhelming but beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talent 🖤 I purchased the Himi set about a year ago after watching your videos! I haven’t actually tried it because I’m not good at all 😂 but I want to try just play with it or even let my kids x
I don't know why, but the exact moment that the music snuck into the video... It really, really fit well with the emotions that the piece evokes in me. I love this so much :')
