    Guache is actually really popular in Europe (at least in my country). I think it's even easier to get it here than acrylics. In the first years of art school we are usually recommended to use guache before moving on to more advanced paints like oils or acrylics. Interesting how different it is all around the world!

      Watercolour is the best paint ( guoache is still cool though, I just find it easier to work with watercolours) imo. But guoache is cool because of the vibrancy mixed with the texture is so cool, they need to make a pan of it but like a pan of watercolour and it's so pigmented that you can put a tiny bit of water on it and it's pretty much acrylic, then the more you put on the more it's like watercolour in a pan
      Only in Japan could they do that
      They be living in future lol
      THE EMOJI RECOMMENDATION I GOT FOR FUTURE WAS CRYING SAME BRO 🤧🤧🤧

      @@elainejones9400you actually have 2 types of gouache water and acrylic ones. In european countries u have also ( in my country we called it poster paint used by kids that is mutant child of acrylic gouache, tempera . Description u gived for japaneese product match perfectly to our poster paint that even my grandparents used as kids. Tick layer works as acrylic paint if u add alot of water u end up water color that blend and layer better than goache from movie.

    I've never used gouache but it kinda looks similar in texture, the way it air drys and activates with water and the opacity to poster colors. Here in India poster colors are very common and are very popular amongst beginners! Love your videos

    • @felixhenson9926

      Poster colours don't really have much in the way of consistency, it's quite thin and will become a little see-through if you put it on thin. Meanwhile gouache is thick and extremely opaque, so I'm not sure I understand the comparison?

      Buy just five tubes of artist grade if you can afford it. I bought lower student grade and while I still enjoy using most of my student grade Cotman watercolors, guache really have a difference in how they work. The worse one was streaky and kinda shiny, and buttery, and I thought that's what giache is. But W&N guache showed me it can be smooth and creamy instead. Much nicer to use, and creates beautiful colors despite very small palette.

    I remember being told that gouache was easier than watercolor because it came with fewer rules, but that it was more frequently used in commercial art than in fine arts. Interesting because that now feels like an outdated elitist kind of prejudice that has ripples into the present.

    • @Knorrette
      @Knorrette 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I was in art school in the 70ties (yep, that old..). We used gouache by Royel Talens for 'commercial' assignments. Gouache was indeed used for posters and advertising and such. It was meant to be reproduced in printing and as gouache was not lightfast it was not really suitable for art that would last. Therefor watercolor was more used for artwork that could be displayed without fading. In those days every supermarket would carry gouache as it was used in schools other than art school as well. We never worked with acrylic (I don't think it was readily available in Belgium and experimental at the time) so it was watercolor, oil or gouache and some dabling with tempera. The binder in gouache is gum arabic - same as in most watercolor brands (can also be honey for water color e.g. Sennelier paints) but gouache has some white paint or chalk in it that makes them opaque. Diluted they become transparant.
      For tempera paint, that is a different binder. Traditionally tempera uses egg yolk as a binder mixed together with raw pigment. It gives the paint a certain luminescence (like you see in orthodox church icons). Tempera is very durable when completely dried and was always used freshly made (before the egg goes bad). It was commonly used before oil paint became a thing in the 15th century.
      At least, that's what I remember.

    In India we actually call these "poster colors"! And they're quite popular here too! The brand that is mostly used is called "Camel/Camlin"

    • @shivani1692
      @shivani1692 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aren't poster colors just acrylic though

    • @tarabooartarmy3654
      @tarabooartarmy3654 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shivani1692 I believe poster colors are neither gouache nor acrylic. The difference is in the pigments. They are finer in more transparent mediums, and larger in more opaque. Gouache is semi-opaque, while poster paint is much more opaque. Poster paint is similar to acrylic but it dries faster than acrylic. That’s why poster paint is popular for kids, because of the faster drying time.

    • @Nilanya
      @Nilanya 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The main similarities to gouache is that it can be broken down by water after it dries + it has buildable opacity depending on the amount of water used

    I got this same set s bit ago, from experience: the smell fades eventually haha (or I just got used to it lol)
    I loved using it! I couldn't get the hang of cheap acrylics and the expensive brands are... expensive haha. Watercolour I do know a little but I still struggle with it. Then I tried this and it's just *chef's kiss*. It's so forgiving, and it's satisfying to work it. Also great to use together with coloured pencils (I use Polychromos and Luminance) and of course watercolours too
