- The Untold Legend of the Batman is a three-issue Batman comic book miniseries published by DC Comics in 1980. It was written by Len Wein, and drawn by Jim Aparo and on the first issue, also John Byrne. The primary plot elements of the story are retellings of the origins of several Batman characters. It is only the second miniseries published by DC Comics as well as the very first starring Batman.
As a marketing tool, each issue of the series was available in a special "MPI Audio Edition", accompanied by an audio cassette containing a performance of the text of the issue, with musical cues. The series was later republished as a single 160-page paperback. In 1989, the series was reprinted in smaller format as a premium for Batman breakfast cereal. - ตลก
Hi ya'll, this is Scott Canfield -- I'm the composer/producer who wrote, performed and recorded this Batman theme and project. Joe Raposo Sr. (composer, of Sesame Street fame, and great friend) initiated the work. I lived in "Gotham" i.e. New York City through it all. Joe's son, Joe Jr. and I painstakingly created all sound effects without computers - using only our imaginations. Glad to see it became a memorable part of so many kid's lives...

Scott! So glad I found you here. Heck, I was already thirty years old when I got this audio mini-series back in 1989 and I still enjoy it today (it's playing right now, in fact). I even still have the original jukebox shaped display packaging in its entirety. I have always told fellow Batfans over the years that, for my money, the two greatest Batman themes ever composed are by Neal Hefti (as orchestrated by Nelson Riddle) and Scott Canfield. Just about everyone who hears yours says just about the same thing: "Man, that's a great theme song!"
Your arrangement of it as well as the incidental music cues throughout the series are also top notch. Great work, Scott. Wish you'd done the opening theme for our series.

Wow! I thought that theme song was the COOLEST thing as a kid. This was pretty much ow I was introduced to comic books, and Batman in comics in particular. Great stuff.

My dad gave me this for my fourth birthday. I only had this tape but it was really heady stuff for a four year old girl. Very glad to find it again, thank you for posting it. Now I can listen to the whole thing!

I have this. The cassette is in a storage box and the comic that came with it I believe is in a box under my bed. Childhood nostalgia came flooding back as soon as I heard the song.

I still own all 3 of these comics but I don't remember any audio tapes. I recall getting them in boxes of cereal as a wee boy.

I was 14 when I bough this not knowing what to expect that when I played it in my family living room stereo I got embarrassed that I just decided to listen to it on headphones. I don't know if it was the corny theme song or the corny voice acting.
Is this the series of audios where Paul Ehlers (of cult film "Madman" fame) provides the voice of The Dark Knight?

God, that 80s soundtrack is just awful. The stuff from Power Records the decade earlier were much better as far as production goes.
