    Classes start November 2, 2021, and will take place on both TH-cam and Facebooks on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sundays, at 1 pm EDT until November 30, 2021. Every class will be at the easiest beginner level with a focus of helping first time artists. Not only will you learn the beginner basics about acrylic, but it is my goal that by the end of the course, you will have the fundamental set of skills you can build on and, at the same time, unlock your creative potential. Classes will be pre recorded live streams to help us schedule and to allow me to be present in chat during all classes to answer your questions.
    The course consists of an introduction and 17 classes which will introduce concepts and skills needed for first time acrylic painters of all ages. Extra resources will be provided from the The Art Sherpa website, www.theartsherpa.com.
    Although students must provide their own art materials, I designed the series using the minimal basic art supplies for acrylic painting.
    If you have really wanted to begin painting but did now know where to start, this course is perfect for you. Perhaps you have been painting for a while but never really got the opportunity to learn the basics. This is still the course for you.

    Wow, I don't understand how I missed half of this video. I have been really struggling to paint on heavy paper from a pad. You described exactly what I have been dealing with. I have used 16×20 pre gessoed canvas pads for years. It never crossed my mind that the 9x12 pads were not gessoed. I have tried changing my paints, changing my brushes, and adding a ton of water. 6 paintings in, and I can't get a blend! I finally threw my hands up and started at the 1st video all over again. Then here's the answer: I don't understand how I missed it, but thank you. You're an angel 😇 sorry I should have said it's been 15 or more years, battles with 2 types of cancer, years of ongoing illness since I painted. I shake so badly I have trouble holding a pen. But because of your teaching, I drag my 69 yr old butt to the easel everyday. I felt like I was just waiting out the rest of my life, but you returned me to the joy I felt since I could hold a crayon ❤

    LOVED the beautiful colorful swirly backgrounds. I never heard of the watercolor block paper. I like to paint on paper, but the warping always prevented me from trying again. Always something to learn even as a fairly experienced painter. I've painted over a painting and didn't like the surface afterward. SO - I use this canvas as a practice board. Testing my techniques and colors.

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sanding (make sure to wear a mask) may help with that then, and canvas is paper is heavy enough it doesn't really warp if you want to try that 💞

    Oh my goodness...missed you live, but just finished your video on canvas, and you answered a lot of questions I had about using acrylic sheets I planned to use for your teaching beginners. I was going to use my paramount sheets in 2 sizes, but they do not have 140 lbs...so now I know I will have to prep them according to your instructions...I will do this today. I also have a Strathmore Acrylic linen canvas sheets (246 lbs) that I can use size 9x12. These sheets are very smooth...I will paint a coat of white acrylic paint for under color on that one so our beginner lessons have something to bind to, Thank you for such wonderful info!

    Cinnamon, I would like to see a video on the different types/options of frames. I have tons of finished canvases but don't know a easy way to stick the dang paintings in a frame! All of these videos are SO helpful!!! I can't wait to try the easy paintings at the end. I love the ways I can do better with my acrylic paper paintings. That really changed the game. The only thing I didn't quite understand was do you remove the tape around the edges and then paint the edges that are missing color underneath? I'm sorry if you said that part and I missed it.

    Step 5 is the reason I started watching this series! I'm excited to learn how to prep the paper!
    I'm glad I trusted the process and started with the first video. I feel like I know so much (yet somehow know nothing at all and still have all the things to learn haha).

    Question: I want to paint on Masonite with Acrylic paint, do you recommend I prime with gesso first. If so 1 coat or 3 coats of gesso. I found some circular frames and plan to cut the Masonite board to fit the frame then paint on it.

    When preparing a piece of paper can you do the white acrylic paint and then put gesso over it

  • @nikeletiner1381

    The other fix for paper to not be wavy is to paint the back of it with two coats of paint, then to put soft gel gloss on front before you paint it. This makes the surface better for blending, and it helps with waving as well. Acrylic paper expecially. I used it on mixed media paper as well.

    Learned such good info. I've been painting in watercolor journals as I don't have room to store canvases and love thumbing through all my journals. If someone wants a painting, I have glued the paper to a canvas for ease of hanging. Thanks for ALL your great info and sharing your time and expertise. Been takings lots of notes to review. Stay well. 😁

    With Acrylic April 2023 coming up do you still recommend prepping your paper with GAC 100 and gesso? I’m using the Fabriano 1264 mixed media paper pad.

    Very helpful!! When using gallery wrap canvas, is it better to use black acrylic paint or black gesso on the sides, if you just want black sides?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either one is great for just covering the sides. Which ever is most cost effective for you I would say then 🌻

    What's your watercolour channel? I do both. What are ways to preserve the painting... especially if it'll be one for sale later. Is that wax good for just generally preserving or something else ? Also sounded like it was just to prep. Anything to seal the painting or is it good without ? Thanks btw. Love these videos

    I really enjoy your videos. They're always so beautiful. However I can NOT draw to save my soul. I tried to paint a Llama once & people thought it was a weird dog. LOL
    I'm just so bad at it. So I tend to do abstract, no drawing, but I seem to be able to do tree's & mountains. Go figure.😏

    I so much enjoyed this video will have to come back take notes. I HAVE TWO VERY LARGE PIECES OF WOOD I BOUGHT Master's Touch GESSO CAN I DO 2 OR 3 COATS AND THEN PAINT ACRYLIC ON THEM? Thank you! 💜🎨

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can gesso directly on the wood and 2-3 coats are perfect, If you are not sure of the chemical treatment of the wood you can do an isolation coat with the GAC 100 before the gesso

    Thank you. Question: can you use acrylic paint that has dried on your palette by re-wetting it like watercolors?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No once acrylic is dry there is no way to reactivate it. This is what makes acrylic lovely for layering and tough to blend with.

    Whenever I finish a painting & it's dried for a good week or so, I resin it to give it that beautiful finished look & protection. Sometimes I'll use a acrylic clear varnish.
    My question to you is what do you do or use as the final finish?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I am finishing a painting Artist Varnish - Spray for acrylic with a good uv factor
      (john does it as I am not great with the VOC)

    Question: are you suggesting we prep acrylic canvas paper from strathmore, for example?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi great question. I personally find that strathmore canvas paper can be so thirsty as it make blending a challange until i am well into the painting so I do prep them to make sure I get the results I am looking for.

    WHEN USING GAC100 SHOULD YOU USE A DEDICATED BRUSH? OR CAN YOU CLEAN THE BRUSH PROPERLY AND PAINT? Thank you for this series. I’ve recently began painting again and this series has been a tremendous help.

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GAC 100 is easy to clean so you dont have to dedicate a brush to it like varnish. Do clean though
