Hello and welcome! I'm Betty Franks, and I create my vision of abstract fields of flowers using acrylic paints and pencils (and other mark-making tools). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel a couple of times a year to Preko, Croatia (where my parents live). I started painting in 2012 and focused on abstract art in the summer of 2015. I love every painting you do! Have you ever done anything that was not sellable or you just hated? I can’t imagine that you have! Even watching your videos, it never ends up like I thought it would. I love your work and admire your talent!
You're super kind, Elizabeth! Yes, I have pieces that don't work out. Sometimes I got back into them. Sometimes I just throw them away. No need to have a constant reminder that it didn't work out! 🤣
What a Trooper you are, Betty. This has got to be the most challenging thing an artist can do and you compound that with sharing the entire process with us - Brava! I love the effect of transferring the painted marks onto the surface. It is just the right effect of loose, blurry and enticing the eye. Another terrific painting.

Commissions are a struggle I try to do two at once and one is always overworked
That's frustrating! Sounds like you need to have a spare piece on the side to overwork! When I was working on two large pieces (commission), I off loaded my brush and extra paint onto a canvas. That one turned out awesome!! And it's now living in Canada! Wish all of them worked out like that!
Perhaps a strategy is to have 'Commissioners" who have first pick of a series, so you are creating anyway and as their name comes to the top of the list, they get to pick.

Perhaps you have answered this question many times, but I am wondering about why you use a very small brush on a larger painting? Thank you!
Hi Susan! Great question! I used a variety of different sized brushes so that I can have a variety of different sized marks. I don't want all my marks to be the same size. Thanks so much for watching!

Yes it was! I was a piece that I had to turn sideways! That also presented a little bit of a challenge for me! Thanks so much for being here!

Hi Marian! The squirt bottles (called FIFO and on my favorite art supplies list under Amazon: www.bettyfranksart.com/my-favorite-art-supplies) are so perfect for Nova Color Paints. I don't add any water. Their paints have the perfect consistency for these bottles. Need to buy more of them!

what type of tape are you using to hold the plastic on the wall? i've been finding that my plastic keeps falling
In the past, I have used blue tape. However, when I moved my studio and removed the tape, it took off some of the drywall. No fun! So this time I put tape along the edges of my plastic and then used push pins to secure it to the wall. It's much easier to fill tiny holes than fixing drywall!
