I spent 3 1/2 year making nothing but fancy 'coffee table boxes' out of exotics - in dovetails. I lived and breathed dovetails! It's nice to watch someone else do the magic. A very sharp European saw - 15 tpi - with no set, worked best, for me. An excellent design and a minimum of 'spinning tools' sells best!
I really enjoy doing hand cut dovetails. The work is slow, precise, and contemplative in the making, and tremendously beautiful in the finished product. Using 'spinning tools' to the minimum is great, even preferably not at all (when I have the time).
What a beautiful piece. I haven't seen this much hand plane work in 50 years. I can't do this any more, too unsteady. My dad taught me back in the early 50's. Thank you for letting me watch.
I’m a complete amateur noob to carpentry with rudimentary knowledge. The last time I did anything with wood was at secondary school for my GCSE’s. I chose woodwork / carpentry as my elective and designed and built a jewellery box, fixed together using dovetails. IIRC I think I got a B for it. 22 years later and watching other people showcase their skills on TH-cam is inspiring me to buy tools and a workbench, and just start experimenting and building things for my home in my spare time, and try to improve my skills in general. Watching people showcase their skills on TH-cam really is inspiring and I can’t explain why but I find watching these videos for hours on end incredibly relaxing.
WoW! The graining of all 3 woods is gorgeous. And of course it really pops when 5he oil is applied. Just another beautiful piece by Carpen Tak! Keep them coming!!
That's a very pretty box and someone is going to cherish it for many years, someone else will inherit and cherish it, and so on. Thanks for showing us your skills and process, it's impressive - subbed.
Wowsers.... That's some smooth craftsmanship. I was impressed when you decided to cup the lid with a JPull saw! I would definitely not trust myself with that technique just yet.... Very nice, sir.
Starting with scrap wood and basic tools allows beginners to focus on skill development while minimizing expenses. As you complete these projects, consider gradually expanding your toolkit. For instance, a small router can help you round edges beautifully, while a doweling jig opens up new joinery possibilities.

Hi.THTS A REAL BEAUTIFUL BOX..LOVE THE WAY YOU SEE HOW TO MAKE SUCH A GREAT LOOKING BOX..THE HINGE IDEA IS REAL CLEAVER...I GET THE IDEA YOU MAY BE A WOODWORK TEACHER ?...MAY I ASK WHAT PART OF THIS GREAT WORLD ARE YOU...DAVID..N.S.W. AUSTRALIA
To make such a piece shows great creativity and knowledge. But, to share that knowledge with others in a way that we all can learn is the mark of greatness. Thank you so much for your presentation.
As someone that isn’t very talented this video made me so jealous it was kinda hard to watch. Seeing every cut be square, the lid line up perfectly, the hinge work to perfection, no tearout on any planing or cutting or drilling…no gaps, no dents…it’s almost sickening to watch a master craftsman do it…but that was absolute perfection my friend!
marvelous. Tried this three times. Can't figure out the hinge. 2 questions: you glue every other hinge on the bottom, wax the ones in between, then on the top, you glue the ones OPPOSITE the wax so the top is glued to 3 and the bottom is glued to 4? And how do you decide which radius router bit to use with a 12mm dowel and how do you determine how deep to rout? thanks. Joe
The hinges should alternate between 4 spaces at the bottom and 3 spaces at the top. Make sure to draw a clear border between wax and glue and stick it on. Router bits use 2/1 inch bits. I couldn't find the 12mm bit. The depth is set by making several test cuts.
Whoua !!! Je suis en totale admiration devant votre art de faire des choses magnifiques 💖 Je débute en menuiserie et j'aimerais tellement avoir un professeur comme vous à mes côtés 🙏 Respect 👍 Vous avez une abonnée de plus ✌
That wooden hinge is the one piece that interests me the most of this box. The wood is beautiful but the hinge really peaks my interest.. Brilliant content again my bro. Keep em coming. Enjoy ur videos as always. I can only hope to become as good as u are but hope is a word used a lot. I'm way behind the curve atm.. LOL
objet admirable. technique apparemment simple, d'une précision remarquable, exécutée par un virtuose . Chapeau bas Monsieur ! ----------------------- admirable object. apparently simple technique, of remarkable precision, executed by a virtuoso. Hats off sir!
Always a pleasure to watch a real craftsman at work. The hinge is just brilliant, I've not seen that before in my 40 years as a cabinet maker/furniture maker!👌
Beautiful work! Quick question: Why go to the trouble of hand planing the surfaces when they will be sanded before having finish applied? Does it prep the wood in some way? Thank you!

This is an example in which the container is probably more valuable than what you put inside!! Beautiful work!!
Nice hand tool technique. Cute little mallet. And thankyou so so much for demonstrating the table saw with the blade guard in.
What a beautiful piece. I haven't seen this much hand plane work in 50 years. I can't do this any more, too unsteady. My dad taught me back in the early 50's. Thank you for letting me watch.
I’m a retired Carpenter / joiner and always enjoy seeing other skilled craftsmen complete such high quality work. Well done sir :))
100% you are not that skilled buddy

Master Craftsman, its not just a box, its a work of art. Thank you.
Beautiful, I've never seen snakewood before, what a beautiful pattern with the grain, simply stunning workmanship.
I was really impressed by that wooden hinge. The whole box is beautiful, but especially that amazing hinge.
A really nice piece of work. I love the melding of the different species of wood, It gives the piece a special character.

Beautiful work. Amazing technique
Woodworking is my therapy. That was very relaxing I need to get back to dovetail boxes.
Masterful! I hope that the recipient appreciates it as much as we all do! 😎
Disfruté mucho este video, GRACIAS por el tiempo que empleaste haciendolo. MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!
The time it took to make this box was well worth the effort. The end result is beautiful.
That Snakewood would make a really nice fingerboard on a guitar or bass. Looks pretty dense and maybe not as oily as Rosewood
That was amazing! I'm so glad my eyeballs got to see that box being made!
Beautiful woods for the box, and very clever hinge construction. Thank you!
Thank you for demonstrating how to make this box without special tools. Love the snake wood.
Well done. When you inserted the bottom and top I did not follow you but the cut in half made sense. Well done, good craftsmanship applied. Thank you
That is some next level craftsmanship, that I can only hope to come close too!! AMAZING work! Bravo!!!
That is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
Thought for sure you were going to remove the top with a bandsaw. Kudos for the thin kerf handsaw.
Gorgeous, thank you. true craftmanship!!!

Rob Cosman has done a similar thing, drilled dowels alternately glued.
You continue to amaze! Beautiful work.
Nice this has inspired me to make one as well
absolutely amazing. I kept wondering what that hinge was going to be like. you are genius
Boy. Hand tools is right. Amazing 🎉
The snake wood is absolutely stunning, where do you source it?
Welch eine klasse Arbeit super👌What a great job super
Stunning!
Beautiful work! Quick question: Why go to the trouble of hand planing the surfaces when they will be sanded before having finish applied? Does it prep the wood in some way? Thank you!
It is not necessary to use a hand plane before sanding. However, this will make sanding much easier. thank you
@@carpentak Thank you!
