If you have a mesh network you CAN plug the HD Homerun into one of the mesh pucks. Did that with my setup and it works great. One of my pucks is very close to my antenna in the master bedroom.

I have 2 of the HD Homerun Connect 4 tuner models running with a Synology 1019+ using the Channels DVR software for DVR functionality and it works extremely well. The Channels DVR software allows you to combine your OTA Channels with most live streaming services utilizing TV Everywhere, so have just one channel guide with all of your local OTA channels and many of your streaming channels as well with full DVR functionality, auto commercial skipping, and recording to the Synology server. The only real disappointment I've had is to discover that the tuners built into my Samsung TV sets (circa 2011, 2014) appear to have more sensitive tuners than the HD Homerun tuners. Fringe OTA channels that come in rock steady on the Samsungs sometimes experience pixelization and dropouts on the HD Homerun units. Not sure if its a tuner sensitivity issue or if internally the Connect 4's are splitting the signal so each tuner is only getting 25% of the original signal. Don't know if others have experienced this but something to consider if you want to pull in fringe OTA stations.

Can anyone explain to me, why I am getting a ton of channels with Plex Live TV when I don't currently have a seperate digital tuner connected to my home network? When I initially set-up Plex, I did select Spectrum On Demand (among other things like Roku, etc) in the Streaming Services section of my account. (As I do use Spectrum as my cable provider). Could that be a reason? Also, does that mean I can say, just set-up the HomeRun Servio Network Hard Drive (for instance) as the DVR to record programs from my Plex account without a tuner?

I have an external digital antenna and currently have a older Channel Master antenna tuner and dvr. I use Roku for streaming.
I am looking for a OTA tuner with capability to record 2 channels simultaneously and be able to wirelessly connect to my other TVs.
Ability to skip commercials and program guide a must have.

@@daniellong8204 That is exactly my question too! I tried finding the answer in the HDHomeRun forums and it appears SiliconDust did have an off-line mode until it was broken during a firmware update. Until that's fixed, the work-around is to use another app like "Channels" for iOS or VLC for Android. You can then cast that to a smart TV. Not acceptable. If I find something else that will do transcoding and is not 100% dependent on the internet, that's what I'll get.
I was about to pull the trigger on buying at least one HDHomeRun until I found out off-line mode was broken. I guess some of us want/need to cut more cords than others (temporarily if nothing else). I understand that there will be fewer bells and whistles without internet, but I don't want ALL functionality to be at the mercy of my ISP or another company's ISP, servers, bankruptcy, whatever. This is the same reason I bought my Wyze surveillance cameras... they keep working within my local network (WiFi) regardless of the internet status.

I want to replace my TiVo OTA when next gen broadcasts start in my area and TiVo doesn't seem to have a model that supports the atsc3.0 yet. It sounds like you have it figured out. One thing to note (not mentioned in the video) is that the new 4K models have tuners for ATSC 3.0 and the current digital broadcasts in ATSC 1.0. Hope that helps.

I have an OTA antenna (mohu leaf 50) plugged directly into my TV. Is there any reason to get a tuner like an HDHomerun? I don't watch TV on other devices (just my FireTV set), and don't care that much about DVRing stuff (I'm sort of a "surf whatever's on" guy). So, would there be any reason to use an HDHomerun? Will my channels come in better? (Additionally, Locast gives me a lot of the same channels my directly-attached OTA antenna picks up.) Just want to know whether the couple hundred bucks will give me much more than I already have. Several of my antenna'd channels are glitchy even though the antenna is in a window, so I'd be curious if tuner help with that at all. Thanks!!

If your TV is decoding all channels that are available in your market, it might not be worth buying a HDHR just for the tuner. It does come with a pretty good tuner though. I do like the Discover tab in the HDHR app to see what movies and shows will be aired to be able to record them. I generally use Live Channels app to watch local stations.
You might need a better antenna if some of the channels have signal quality variations that make it difficult to watch. My antenna works better at the front of my condo unit than near my balcony glass door.

They both have their pros an cons. I prefer HDHR because 3rd party apps like Live Channels and Channels are compatible with it. Using Live Channels allows me to use the number key pads on a Tivo Stream 4K to change channels. I like Tablo's traditional guide, which makes it easier for some people like my mom to use. Unfortunately, the app does not accept number key pad inputs to change channels.

Hmmm...I want 4 tuners, but the processor of the Extend sounds desirable. Just bought the Synology 1520+ and plan to install Plex on it. If I purchase the Quatro can Plex convert the incoming MPEG2 to h.265 for DVR storage? It has a Celeron, so that includes a GPU. Just wondering if I record 3 shows at once is it a minimal task, or will it cripple my hardware? What is the storage difference between the MPEG2 vs H.265. And when I play streams on various devices, is it more efficient to have stored it as MPEG2 vs H.265?

The average person who may attempt to use something like this will find out their tv must already have network ability or have to purchase additional equipment to even begin. That's a major flaw.
