Second time probably not, third time sounds like it was an inevitability and op is fucking lucky the cops got there in 10 minutes. We have a cop shop literally a 5 minute walk away from the store I work at and if we’re lucky, they will come the day we call them within 2 hours. We had an incident with someone brandishing a knife and that was a whole in store shitshow but the cops did a quick check of our carpark an hour and a half later and they never once came and asked us what happened.
We call them, A Lot and they never come. We had another instance of someone trying to return a damaged tv, they threatened to come back and stab staff members and the cops didn’t come and head office literally said to just refund them. Because they then call head office and it looks bad for the store, ignoring the fact that regular customers see us reward bad behaviour and then complain to head office anyway.

    • @SonsOfLorgar
      @SonsOfLorgar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    • @foogod4237
      @foogod4237 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This is very bad advice. Do not do this.
Yes, grabbing headphones can be considered assault, or possibly even battery (depending on the particular state laws, etc). *However,* that does not mean that hitting her back is automatically "self defense". Assaulting someone else merely because they assaulted you _is also a crime_ and you could be arrested and prosecuted as well (and if she is seriously injured as a result, you could be liable for _her_ medical bills, etc, too).
It is only considered self-defense if the actions are _reasonable and necessary_ to _prevent immediate injury or death._ That is, you have to be in immediate physical danger, and your actions must be _only the minimum necessary to stop her from being able to hurt you._ If she only pulled your headphones off, and is not showing any intent to directly assault you further, then _there is nothing to defend yourself from_ at that point and therefore "self defense" does not apply. Anything you do just to try to hurt her when you don't actually need to would actually be criminal assault on your part (and just because somebody else did it first does not make it OK for you to do it too).
Likewise, if somebody tries to hit you, and you block their punch, or you throw them to the ground, that would likely be considered legitimate self defense. However, if you then proceeded to beat the crap out of them, that is *not self defense* anymore. It doesn't matter that they tried to hit you first, that's still legally assault because it was _not actually necessary_ for the purposes of defending yourself from harm.

It's too bad that, when the cops asked, "Do you want to trespass her?" the OP didn't say, "YES! I 'd also like to press charges. ON X date, at the theater, she laid hands on me, and I had to wrench myself free from her grasp. In the process, she fell down, and tried to claim that I pushed her, but the CCTV will CLEARLY show that she assaulted ME. Also, on Y date, at Z store, she assaulted me, and broke my earphones. Some relative of hers worked at the store, and paid me $30 for them, and asked me NOT to call the cops, as I was inclined to do, at the time. I let it go, because I THOUGHT he would talk to her, and teach her a lesson, but apparently, that did not happen. So, it's still within the time limits for me to press assault charges, and property damage for that, right? CCTV footage should show the whole thing. I want to press charges for assault and property damage for that incident, assault for the theater incident, and for today, I want to press charges for disturbing the peace, property damage, and if you give me time to check the CCTV, I might be able to add FRAUD to that list. I just need to check if SHE put the cup on the sale wall, or if another customer put it on the sale wall. If it was another customer, which is quite possible, then she has a point that it was there, although it shouldn't have been. But I wouldn't put it past her to PUT the cup on the sale wall, just so she could 'truthfully' say 'I got it off the sale wall,' in order to demand it for the sale price. Please, check the CCTV WITH me, and we'll see if we can add fraud to the list. Either way, though, I DEFINITELY am charging her for disturbing the peace and property damage, today, as well as the two other assault charges and the property damage from that first time. Just because he relative paid me doesn't mean she didn't BREAK THE LAW. It just meant that I was willing to go easy on her AT THE TIME. THAT mercy no longer applies."
Honestly, with enough charges, even minor ones, she could be sent to jail for a while, as a recalcitrant, repeat offender.
I actually believe she is mentally unhinged, and needs professional psychological care, ON AN IN-PATIENT BASIS, until she can be released into the public, again. As of now, she is literally a menace to society.
You encountered her THREE TIMES. Now, let's just figure for a moment, what are the odds that you are her ONLY victim? Million to one? Odds are, in fact, that she does this ALL THE TIME. But, people are willing to let it go ONCE, especially if someone else apologizes for her, and pays for the damages. But, if you tracked her, and found out that she does this sort of thing every day she goes out, she's LITERALLY A MENACE TO THE COMMUNITY and NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.
For her OWN SAFETY, she needs to be stopped. What happens, if she pulls this crap on The Wrong Person? What happens if she pulls this crap on someone who has no patience, and decides to TAKE HER DOWN? She could be horribly injured, or worse.
I'm not even talking about PUNISHING her, at this point. She needs to be put away, FOR HER OWN SAFETY, and get some TREATMENT. And if she can't get treatment, then she at least needs to be put away, to protect the innocent people around her. She DAMAGES things, and people, too!

As someone who has worked retail, a customer saying "I don't care if you are on break" is so scary, as there are places that will straight up fire employees that help customers when on break, as they consider it "Working on your break period." I was so paranoid about it that I always wore a tank top under my work shirt so that as soon as I was clocked out, either for lunch or for at the end of a shift, I could take the work shirt off and be harder to recognize as an employee. I did the reverse for coming in while the store was open (AKA not an opening shift) so I could get in without being stopped, especially if they were busy. For my paid breaks (10-15 minute breaks are on the clock where I live) I would cover my name tag with my arms and rush to the break room. Winters were easier as I could cover my shirt with my coat, though I still wore the undershirt. I had a few coworkers at multiple jobs like this so much, they started doing it too.
These efforts managed to prevent the worst instances, as only the regulars and coworkers recognize me at that point. But if I had someone insist that *I* was the one to help them "Even if you are on break" then I would ask them, "Do you want me to get fired?"
Come to think of it, I think this is why they insist employees take their breaks in employee-only areas. Prevents such issues.

Story 2... Part 1: I would have screamed out "Security!" as soon as they broke my product. When the manager is so much not wanting the police... it really makes me want to walk outside... and file a police report... if not actually have them charged. I wonder what other stuff would be uncovered by the police arriving. Part 2: would have said "I need to press charges of assault and defamation." Part 3: I would have told my manager of the previous encounters with her... and likely would not have been offered the 10% off... and would have used the emergency number, reporting that this is the third encounter... and she needs help.

That first story... If it was me, when the manager handed over the thirty I would have handed it back and replied "No. YOU have done nothing wrong and don't owe me a penny. The WITCH here is the one who owes me and we WILL be calling the police on her immediately."

If I had been in OP's shoes while talking to the cop in the final part of this story, I would have had a difficult time keeping dark humor and sarcasm from escaping...
Cop: Do you wish to tresspass her?
Me: No, I wish I had a bat...
on 2nd thought maybe trespassing would be less trouble.

I would have pressed charges the first 2 times before she showed up at my work. Then they could have called the cops when they first saw her. I would then try for a restraining order.

Years ago I was in the drugstore that I used to go to when I had a sudden attack of major diarrhea. I asked the lady at the pharmacy who
I knew very well to let me in the bathroom she said we're ALL on break you can't use the bathroom right now we won't unlock it. I said Please this is an EMERGENCY she wouldn't open the door and mother nature took her course and I messed all over myself and the floor of the store when she came out and started screaming at me what have you done? I said I asked you to unlock the toilet now my shoes are ruined pants are💩💩 ruined everything needs to be thrown out. They offered me $25 in compensation I said no I need $200 .I never want back to that store and I just walked out and let them clean up the MESS after I grabbed some plastic bags to cover myself because I didn't know how I was going to get home without leaving a trail of poop with every step. I only ever received the $25.
When I switched everything over to another drug store they had the nerve to send me a letter asking why because I'd been such a good customer for so many years.🤬🤬🤬🖕

"Even if youre on break customers come first "
    1. They dont work here
    2. Eveb if they did that is untrue. In fact people on break legally cannot be made to work as that would be unpaid labor and violate workers rights.

These stories have made me afraid to ask people who actually work in stores for help. First i cautiously check out their clothes and look for a name tag. Then I asked them if they know where the item I'm looking for is and if they don't I just go on search for it myself afraid to ask another employee. Lol

Yes, you DO need help, professional help
Can't these f ing karens tell that someone not wearing the store's uniform DOESN'T F ING WORK THERE
Why do karens ALWAYS forget there are cameras around?

Story 2: Always call the police...always press charges! Karen physically attacked OP...intentionally damaged OP's property...harassed OP. Never EVER allow them to get away with it.
Story 3: Again...never allow them to assault you without having to pay the consequences of their actions. Karen's future victims will be glad you did...and it may be YOU a victim again!
Story 4: Karen would have been paying for the items she destroyed and/or damaged or she would be charged with those crimes before being trespassed. ALWAYS PRESS CHARGES!!!

So, the manager pays Karen’s debt and she learns no lesson? Oh wait-she learns the lesson that she can get away with being an abusive b!tch and destroying someone’s property!
What kind of deranged people assume that someone works at a store and is lying to them? Every single karen who assaults someone needs to be brought up on charges-the first time, and every single time they behave like dangerous maniacs. You do not put your hands on anyone. You do not destroy people’s property! They need consequences immediately and every time.

Story 2 Karen reminds me of a similar story revolving around another different karen that got confused with Op 3 times and each time she was banned from the establishments.
First was at a Walmart or something.
Second was at a lowes (my favorite part is when the karen kind of mistook op’s father to be their manager)
Third and final was at a Home Depot or something
