100% right decision, you can find much better. And even if you had wanted to restore it, the asking price was unreal for its condition. As an L322 owner, by coincidence I also had a 1969 mini as my first car, and one of the main things to watch for is corrosion on the subframe. Mine failed the MOT on it, subframe had to be replaced. If needed you can always get a used subframe on EBay for £200 and use a modern anti rust treatment on it. With that being said, I had a bit of a shock seeing the prices of fully restored ones on Autotrader, considering I paid £300 for mine, in good basic nick & ready to drive away!
That’s some valuable information to know , appreciate that 👌 I’ve been after one for years , but finding one at the right price that needs a bit of work . I’m sure I’ll come across one 🤞
Hi love what you are doing on the channel. I have owned Minis for 40 years, not an expert though. It’s not a top 96 model as I have a 97 which is very different. There was loads of rust and fibre glass at the back so would have needed loads of welding all over. The trouble is rust buckets like these sell well on eBay. The clutch issue would have been down to it being sneezed in the engine bay through lack of use. Wd40 sorts it’s after a while, but it sounds like someone get impatient. Key for me would have been the underneath, door and sub frames, if they were good may have been worth it for the right price. The engine sounded very tappetty, but it’s clearly not been started for years.
Thanks Paul . Have you got the mk7 then ? I think it needed new panels all round really , some could have probably been repaired . Alarm bells were ringing when it didn’t run , as the description said otherwise . You don’t know what other problems i might have found . Im sure I’ll find one 🤞
I actually owned this car in 2018. It's a 1275 Sprite. I put the Cooper badging on it. It was a clean and solid car then. Matter of fact I still have the front seats for it.
Well, the previous MOT says it all. Odd wheels on an axle, rust causing structural failure on the rear arm.. as parts it's worth over £1000 but for a rover mini you have to be really sure it's structurally sound as they rust so fast. Older minis are the better bet, but you'll be paying £5k for a 70's Leyland mk3, and that would be a really tatty one. Also, from the outside, there's a reason there's no carpets in it. Clearly water getting in around the rear windows and possibly the from scuttle. As for the MOT saying the battery box is so corroded the battery is likely to fall out, that says it all really. Even the simplest of welding jobs have been left unfixed for 2 years.. £2,500 for a mini Sprite is really pushing it in that condition.
I think maybe he was going to try and pull a fast one . Soon as the car didn’t run and drive my instincts told me to walk away . Would be a nice project for someone though
Top video again mate yah defo contractor or a buisness don't like your posters do what mate did he was having same trouble parked he's car up with dash cam caught person doing it
Morning Buddy. What a pile of poop 💩 Nothing worse than reading an advert that makes out that something is sweet only to find it’s nothing like it was described in the advertisement wasting your time and effort. But it was really good for your channel m8 👍🏻
Steer well clear of old minis rot box's subframes will be well gone that, as for the Twat ripping your signs down try plant a motion camera nearby if you can.
hey mate good video. Had a lucky escape there. Rotten as a pear. Sounded to me like it was running on 3 as well. Plus very slow to start. Be a lot of recommissioning in that one. @polecat54941 the earlier mini's command very high prices mostly unaffordable. Nothing wrong with a Rover mini so long as they have been looked after well and maintained.
Was it worth the asking price ? I’d love to know your thoughts 👇
Nice video!, no not worth the money and for what its worth avoid the Rover Mini and get an earlier one as they are better made.

A buyer’s guide in a nutshell sir. Got stung years ago and still get angry with myself recalling it!
I bet , Had some myself !
Rust on Mini's is like looking at an Iceberg, the 10% you can see, expect a further 90% hidden!!
Very true🤣
What a shed .. 1k tops... absolute dreamer..
That’s exactly the figure I was thinking
Not with a barge pole, needs total rebuild. Who would let a real john cooper get into that state?
Shame really , just too much work . If it ran and drove and just needed bodywork id have took a punt on it

That might be worth thinking about , at the moment they are still up 🤞 cheers Andy 👍
Wow i was thinking £350 and he wanted 2k!
That's frustrating, when they say it runs and drives then doesn't
Very ! Don’t know why people are dishonest in the listing
It was only worth 2.5k if the boot was full of gold
If only 🤣
1996 rover mini sprite 1275cc , yeah right, that really looks like a cooper . Typical time wasters. She'll start you need these 🔑
Happens quite a lot , I’ll find one I’m sure 🤞
Lucky escape, everything about it was wrong…..
To easy to get carried away , I agree I think I made the right decision 🤞

Alarm bells start ringing when it’s not as described , why I walked away . Shame , but I’m sure I’ll come across a better example 🤞
Steer well clear of old minis rot box's subframes will be well gone that, as for the Twat ripping your signs down try plant a motion camera nearby if you can.
Handy to know .. I’ll find a good example I’m sure 🤞 Not a bad idea 👌
