    I've been training in Wado Ryu (Suzuki lineage) for 6 years now. It's a great style because of its eclectic nature. Balancing traditional karate waza with JJJ techniques (throws, grappling). As far as "TMA" go, it's very practical and focuses more on interactions (kihon, oyho, sanbon gumite) than other styles that are more kata-based.

      As someone from Meibukan Goju Ryu, I do feel quite lacking in my grappling and throwing ability. Most of my training was focused on strikes all the way to black belt level.

      @jadekayak01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Coscina why are you mentioned I g TMA in the same sentence as wado karate.
      the jujutsu style that is involved with wado is koryu(I've trained under its headmaster twice now) but the karate is an offshoot(or at least heavily influenced) by shotojan as the founder came from shotokan.
      also karate is not even Japanese and it actually means "China hand"

    Nostalgic!
    I also used to do Wado-ryu Karate.
    I did karate for about three years and jujutsu kempo for about a year.
    The one I knew was the previous generation, Master Otsuka.
    I signed up for the channel.

    It's good to open your mind to other styles. I can't stand people who are so closed minded and refuse to even look at other styles.

      william beck i totally agree with you. It is wonderful to hear that. Karate is good. Even better when you add another style to learn from. For example goju ryu karate + bajiquan + wrestling = freaking awesome.

      thomas wildheart I train in Shotokan but I occasionally visit the Goju Ryu school in the next town and watch their classes. I used to watch Uechi Ryu classes and Aikido classes when I lived in Washington DC. Half the time I didn't understand what they were doing but I love the stuff.

    In my opinion visiting other karate schools and learning from them is part of studying karate-te, especially if you are an instructor.

    • @BelloBudo007
      @BelloBudo007 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really? I was of the opinion that cross training was participating in a completely different physical exercise. For example swimmers would ride a push bike and so forth.

    • @dakentaijutsu2010
      @dakentaijutsu2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bill Blinky dude it's not just that, it also applies for martial arts as well!

    • @BelloBudo007
      @BelloBudo007 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Being somewhat 'old school', I simply consider it all to be kara te and not really interested in style. My 50 years of experience has taught me that even within the same school, different instructors can have completely different approaches to the same waza. Thanks for trying to educate me though.

    Hola y saludos desde Mexico donde vivo actualmente y es emocionante ver marcial como este estilo de Karate y mas cuando es muy parecido a la forma como fui instruido por amigos y mi Sensei en JUJUTSU y Karate Japones el cual aprendi por necesidad pues no queria seguir sufriendo de bulling en la escuela, en esa época yo cresi en una pequeña ciudad cerca de Boston Massachusetts. Estos son los estilos de arte marcial que hoy dia hay que preservar pues mantienen vivo el espíritu del Karate y artes marciales

    I trained with sensei Toshio Osaka in Salt lake city, Utah. Sensei Osaka arrived as champion from All japan karate Champioship in the 1960'. Man, he was so fast and a great fighter. He was challenged by a local gángster. The gángster did not have a chance. Every two years Zusuki sensei came from England. Suzuki sensei 100% great technique. After kihon Wasa then we trained in jujitsu kihon Wasa. Great training. Now in my 60' i got my godan in Aikido. Jujitsu and Aikido are related arts. Great fighting arts. Good discipline, mind, body , harmony, and spirit. Oss

    Just to note, the title is perhaps slightly misleading in that it doesn't mention that the Otsuka shown here is Kazutaka Otsuka, who is 3rd generation of Hironori Otsuka. It is however mentioned in the video, but it would be better to use his proper name in the the title, perhaps.

    • @casperwb
      @casperwb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Otsuka Kazutaka sensei took that name when he became the headmaster as did his father. The founder took this name as an adult when he started teaching. People forget Hironori wasn't his birth name either. Otsuka sensei actually talks about this in the larger film when meeting Naka sensei.

    In kumite competition, we will forget any those technic. In kumite competition everyone is just punching each other, dont care about the beautiful movement of Karate. Only in Kata we can enjoy the beautiful movement of Karate. You can say, "Kata can also used in fight"? Really? Just look at back the Kumite competition video all around the world!

      Again you are speaking as an idealist. Karate was developed based on the need to defend and protect life. There is no true karate without kumite and those who do not train it properly are paper tigers.

    • @allgadget3308
      @allgadget3308 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure that in modern Kumite Competition, any participant is just think how to punch or kick as fast as he/she can before the opponent does. When the opponent is punching or kicking, you even don't think to block, but punch/kick back. That is what I saw in video of modern Kumite Competition of Karate. Kumite in modern competition is very different toward "Kumite" in Hollywood movie. In Hollywood movie, the movement is complete, punching, kicking, blocking, dodging.

      You are wrong. The beauty of movement is revealed in kumite when done correctly. Karate is nothing but a dance without testable application.

    • @allgadget3308
      @allgadget3308 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah .. the keyword is: "when done correctly" just like you said. In modern Kumite competition, does it done correctly? Can you give the proof? The link of the video in youtube... I am sure that in modern Kumite Competition, any participant is just think how to punch or kick as fast as he/she can before the opponent does.
