Hey Steve, if I set that maximum RPM below the max rating for the pump, will that affect the operating pressure for my heater/chiller as well? I think that at 3450 I’m pushing water so fast through my heater that it’s not adequately heating the water due to the amount of time the water actually has contact inside the heater but my heater won’t work unless it’s on max RPM….please help
@jamesstultz7920 try cleaning your filter media and see if the heater will operate at lower pump rpm. Pool heaters are generally optimal for heat in the 80 to 100 gpm range but at higher speeds this should not cause a noticeably loss in heat / longer heat times. The heater will output the rated btu regardless.
Hi, i recently bought an astralpool victoria plus 2hp pump, i have 2 inch pipe and a sand filter that is rate at 31000 L/H The pump room is located under the pool and i'm afraid of exceding the flow rate the pump is rate at 26000 L/H
I have the Hayward Max-Flo VS 1.65 pump. I wish I had never installed the VS pump as it does not service my pool solar panels, pool cleaner, and water fall unless it is on a high speed. Is there a way to program this pump to run at one speed all of the time? I saw this video on how to set the max speed which should be helpful. I have a Pentair Clean and Clear 200 filter which I think handles 200 gpm. (1 gpm per 1 sq ft). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
A maxflo pump is not the right pump for a solar lift. Yes you can program you pump for one speed but why not sell it and buy a single speed pump instead.if that is how you intend to run it. Realistically a better sized pumpnfor your application would be the best solution. Variable speed for sure.
@@Swimmingpoolsteve Last question about this...Curious as to why the Max-Flo can't handle the head pressure to get water up to the solar panels? It is probably pumping up 10 ft to the roof, and another 40 ft horizontal run to the panels. Are their impellers different than other manufacturers? Thanks
@@tomdavis3495 low, medium and high head pumps are used for different pool applications. A higher head pump would perform better with a solar lift and the added resistance of that extra pipe run length
Does the max flow rate of a sand filter apply when going to waste? Just something I had thought about the other day.
It does. The main restriction is the multiport valve head.

I’m trying to buy a VS pool pump. 18000 gal pool. I’m also having all my PVC pipes changed to 2”. Please tell me what Hayward pump I need and HP?
We have a 9000 gal pool. I run the pump daily for 6 hours (year round). What RPM setting should I have the pump set for?

@@Swimmingpoolsteve Thanks so much for the information!
So does a single speed pump (1hp) always exceed the MFR of a sand filter? (say a S244TC)
Depends on the pump manufacturer and system parameters. It definitely can. Especially a pentair 1hp
@@Swimmingpoolsteve can a Pentair 1hp exceed the flow rate possible for 1.5 inch pipe?
