    I just came from a Helix to a FM3.....no comparison...the Fractal is a different level sound wise...and feel wise....maybe not in a mix,but sitting in the room with both,the FM3 smokes the Helix in every way.....I used the Helix for 2 years,and pretty much fought it every day.....10 minutes with the FM3,I couldn’t stop smiling....It’s a great unit..

    Hey Lads, Cliff from Fractal has posted in the Fractal Forums that if you want to make the Fractal models 'feel' more like the Kemper. To directly quote him: "The Axe-Fx III models are extremely accurate. The Kemper has it's own vibe which a lot of people like. It's characterized by lots of midrange compression. You can replicate this on the Axe-Fx by setting the Output Compression type in the Amp block to Feedback and dialing in ~6 dB of compression. Adjust to taste.
    The distortion of the Kemper is smoother than a real amp as well. You can replicate this by decreasing the Power Amp Hardness." I've tried these tweaks and they do make the 'feel' more similar to how a Kemper feels (have compared to a Stage). These changes also work on AX8 and Axe-FX II. Cheers :)

      Thats a weird statement to me, because when looking at comparisons on youtube, the opposite seemed true. All modellers had a slight flavour compared to the real amp, but kemper always seemed to be audibly the closest...

    I like high gain monsters but the real trial of these modelling units is doing the low to medium drive thing. Emualting cleans is the "easy" part, emulating high gain, is far more complicated but doing the medium gain and retain the tone, the feel and the sustain, that's where a lot of these modellers fall apart. This one definitly does that really well.

    • @mcren6781
      @mcren6781 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I disagree I always think the high gain stuff sounds more real it’s the clean dry sounds that I found sounding digital and lacking sparkle..

    I love the FM3. I built my own board (12x20) with an Xotic Wah and a EV-2 and it’s awesome. I have the 3 buttons programmed perfectly and have no need for more buttons. It’s a nice small board that everything I need and sounds great. Also I tend to only use one amp at a time so there’s that. I also have had a Helix for close to 5 years and it’s great too. But I really feel Fractal hit a home fun with the FM3.

    Two things I think Line 6 has that the other two don’t have are extremely user-friendly interfaces and a massive support community. Under a microscope, the Kemper and Axe may be a bit better in sound quality and although prices may start to get even, it’s still tough to justify for most players imo. However, if Axe Effects ever comes out with something to compete with the Pod Go in the $500-$600 range, that would be intriguing.

    Weird thing to note: a lot of your videos have a consistent yet quiet click during the music recordings. I don't know what it is but it doesn't happen during other guitar channels I listen to, and this has happened on many of the vids I watch from you guys for over a year now. One way I go about kind of replicating stereo effects in front of a single amp throw a mono analog delay in front of the amp at a 1/4 note and have my stereo dotted 8th delay after the amp and run stereo cabs paned left and right. Not exactly the same but kind of gives the same effect with the modulated analog delay hitting the front of the amp and you still get the awesome stereo image.

    I am not into P&W music at all, I find the amps weak, and the effects way too wet. I do however, watch all your videos related to these products, kemper, helix, axefx etc. I find your opinions valid and informative. You discuss cons of each unit, instead of just pros. I find both of you to be honest and likeable. Keep up the good work, and ease up on the delay, one is enough.

And the fm 3 is even better such an amazing piece of gear all you need to have everything you could ever want is an fm3 and then a digitech drop pedal and then a whammy pedal You could use those functions on the fm3 but the digital capo lags so if you play fast it won’t feel right same with the whammy but thre whammy is more usable

    I definitely share Bradford's mindset of taking a preset or patch and running with it. That's why I like the Kemper (stage). There's a sense of freedom for me when I can easily build a Kemper performance and trust it, rather than go into option paralasys and tweak for an hour and (due to user error), end up with something that doesn't sound as good as the original sound.

    • @worshiptutorials

      Fractal has a tab in the amp and drive blocks called 'Authentic', which only shows you the controls that are on the real-world versions of the amps and pedals. It's a really nice feature for users who don't want to deep dive.
      Many people talk about the deep editing options in Fractal products as a negative, but you don't ever have to touch them. By default, the deep options in the amp and effects models are set to accurately model the way the actual amps and effects are built. It's only if you want to change something about the real-world counterpart that you need to access the rabbit hole :).

    Just got my FM3. So, coming from both a Helix and Kemper background I'm familiar with snapshots and performance modes. Scenes,....I'm finding that you can't change the perameters of an effect in one scene to another scene. Is this correct? And, I'm guessing that the only possible way to accomplish this is to use the 4 "channels" on the FM3?
    Fractal products are definately harder to master in my opinion.

      To change parameters of a block (without changing channels), you can use the control switches. Just map a parameter to a control switch and assign the min and max values.
      Control switches can then be assigned to a button or turned on/off in scenes (or both). We use control switch 1 in our presets to increase the gain on the amp.

    • @westonhogan1672
      @westonhogan1672 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a partial answer for you but you might check with the forums on Fractal's website, they're very knowledgeable and helpful. You can use input 2 to bring sounds from a mixer into the unit (if you're not using it as an FX in) and then choose which output to connect it to. The problem is output 1 is connected to both the XLR out and the headphones, so if you brought those mixer sounds "into your headphones" but you were planning to send only the guitar signal out to the speaker, I think you can't do that in as straightforward of a way (mix of guitar and the mixer sound would go to output 1). However, I think if you set it up to send only guitar to output 2, and your guitar + mixer signal from input 2 to go to output 1, you could have your full mix in your headphones while sending only guitar to the board. Probably a cleaner solution overall is to send the FM3 signal straight to the mixer via output 1, and then use an output from the mixer as your headphone source.

    Yes Bradford there is alot in there that I dont care for but I like watching you guys and learning.
    Would be good if you guys had a go at demonstrating other gear. Like for instance I am soon to purchase the Joyo Gem Box III which is a full rig.

    I just got mine it’s sounds incredible BUT I have a Kemper Stage too BUT Kemper is better sounds more real! The Fractal FM3 cost $999 and Kemper Stage $1,700 so big different 💰! Both units are amazing

      You can do the editing from the unit so no pc is required. It is easier with a computer though :)

    Bought an FM3 and just couldn't get decent tones through a 4 x 12 high end cabinet. Not interested in playing through FRFR speakers and honestly I bought a Boss Katana head that was way easier to get useful tones from. FM3 was Far to complex and time consuming IMO. I'll keep the Katana plus my Marshall Jubilee stack and my ADA Mp1 rack setup for all the tones I need. Took a bath on resale value as well. No more modelers for me

    i know this is a controversial question but personally, do you find the amp models and effects in the fm3 or fractal products in general better than the line 6 products especially helix?

    • @bmitchellmusic
      @bmitchellmusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say the Fractal amps have a slight edge. And maybe some of the effects to a certain extent. But the units aren't as flexible and usable as the Line 6 products. L6's desktop editor is way more intuitive than the Fractal stuff. And the amount of flexibility the L6 has is almost untouchable. So for every pro in one column, there's a con in the other.

    • @elishajohndangat3740
      @elishajohndangat3740 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bradford Mitchell really? just a slight edge? i have a hd500x and my friend has an axe8 and the amps and effects just sound better in the axe8..so you’re saying there’s a significant improvement with the helix compared to the hd500x? i’m sorry if i’m asking too much but i’m planning to upgrade my pedalboard and i don’t know anyone who has the helix or axe fx 3 so i can’t really compare them myself

    • @bmitchellmusic
      @bmitchellmusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elisha John Dangat oh yeah. Helix is a massive upgrade from the HD500.

    • @meekee1973
      @meekee1973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elisha you must compare fractal stuff with helix stuff. My two cents: fractal is better, not so much but clearly better. Helix is way more usable and intuitive though.

      Michele Vicidomini yeah that’s why i asked bradford if there’s a significant improvement from the pod hd500x to the helix when it comes to amp modeling and effects because that’s the most important thing to me, sound quality..i kinda know that fractal stuff are not as flexible like you can’t really do dual amps on stereo but i’m kinda curious about helix being more intuitive..so is it pretty hard to create a patch with fractal even with the desktop editor?

      Better than the FM3? Ha I suppose it’s all subjective. I think the Kemper would have looked dated even in the 80’s 😂.

    Some of the models sound too digital for my taste.doesnt sound as good as Qc or Kemper.Also Metallica uses it only for some pedal effects.The only reason they probably even keeps it is because of the endorsement other than that they use real Diezel amps.Their roadie or the sound guy even said in a rig rundown that James and kirk barely uses fractal.they prefer real tube amps and fractals are just there as their last option.

    The one thing I don’t like in PW is there’s too much generic ambient sounds that mask the guitar for what it is. David Gilmour was a master of great sounds who didn’t get buried.
