  • Hey Guys.
    We finaly got around to sort the engine problems on our Suzuki.
    Or rather, we dumped the broken 970cc engine completely, and put in a completely rebuild 1324cc instead. this will give us a boost of about 20 hp. yeah, that dosen't sound like a great lot, but when it had only 45 to begin with, it's going to make quite a differance.
    Thanks for watching!

    can you provide the basic types of engines that can fit into a samurai with or without some massaging of the firewall please?

      +1234tric Did a LJ50 conversion. Two stroke replaced with a 1.3 litre Toyota Corolla engine coupled to a 5 speed Celica gearbox...changed the gearing in the transfer box to give it longer legs also.....good result.

    Hey, Awesome zook guys! is that engine the stock standard for samurai? Would like to do the same with my sierra soft top...but not too sure what motor would be the best? Would like more power, higher top speed, and a turbo...any ideas which motor would best fit with minimal mods? Thanks.

      Thanks!
      This one was an old one from '86 I think. But the engine we put in, was from a' 98.
      I don't think you'll go wrong with one of these. They are well built, easy to work on, and very capable.
      There are a ton of different upgrade options, too many for me to list here. Have a look around the net, I'm sure you can find suppliers that'll ship to you out there.
      Thanks for watching, and good luck with it!

    Great job guys, thumbs up. Ok i was into Suzukis long time ago, then as offroad got tougher i got into defenders and land rover stuff. Now i just bought a Maruti Gypsy and installing a Samurai G13A engine and gearbox. See how it goes. I would like to paint it like this one, would you kindly tell me whats the paint name / code. Thanks guys

      Hey there. Thanks for watching. glad you liked it.
      Sounds like a cool project you have going on.
      The paint we used for this, is a military "Desert Sand" colour. now its been a few years, but i think at that time we were buying our paint from these guys in the UK:

    the 1300cc engine fit on the 1000 cc transmission ?

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, the transmission from the 1000cc will not bolt on to the 1300cc engine.
      the old 4 speed is much smaller. but it might be possible with and adapter plate.
      We also replaced the transmission with a 5 speed, from a newer samurai.
      Unfortunately, our camera cut out through that, so we didn't get the on video.

    Question? I would like to know if the transmission of a 85 suzuki sj410 is the same as of a samurai? As seen in your video you changed the motor but not the transmission...... Will it work the same, is it the same?

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey buddy.
      The transmission from the older SJ410's will Not fit the engine of the newer SJ413's / Samurai's. the old 4-speed is simply much smaller, and will not bolt onto the engine block.
      We did actually change the transmission for this swap aswell, to a newer 5-speed.
      the reason you don't see it, is simply because we had a bit of camera problems.

    Hi guys, i will be also change engine in sj410 and i have one question, i saw that right engine mount doesn't fit and i need to fit new one but what with left mount and gear box? It fit to 1,3 engine (with 1.3 gearbox) ?

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michał Fabisiak hey there. From what I remember, the gearbox mount was the same. But both engine mounts have to be changed. However, we made an adapter plate for the mount on the left side, instead of welding a new one on. That's why you can't really see it in the video.
      Thanks for watching!

      I would, but i can't. I don't own the car anymore. And i don't have any pictures of the setup. I seem to remember that the bolt holes were the same, so i just cut off the mount, and bolted it to the engine, and then put some metal on the mount to extend it, so the it would reach the frame again.

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +raghib ali Hey there.
      No, we didn't change the rediator, as it's the same size as the one on the 1,3l. all we did was moving it forward a bit, to clear the fan.
      But we also did change the gearbox for a 5-speed. as the 4 speed didn't fit. (We had a bit of camera trouble. so we didn't get it on video)
      Thanks for watching.

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you.
      But no, the gearbox has just about the same ratio as the 4 speed. And we used the same Transfer case. So the final gear ratio was the same.

    That's great to see a SJ410 brought back to life ! - even if it's more a 413 than a 410 now -
    A little question please : On my SJ410 (a 1987/1988 model) there is no grid behind the calender.
    I wan't to add this grid to protect the radiator but i don't know how to fix that grid on the calender. Please, can you tell me how the grid is fixed on the calender of your SJ ? (or post me a link to a picture )
    Many thanks by advance
    best regards and keep up the good job !

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, much appreciated.
      About the grid/mesh. it is indeed a good idea to put that in there, as it otherwise has a fairly open grill. But the mesh was already on mine when i got it, and i don't own the car any more, so i can't really go take a look, but from what i remember, there had simply been drilled a few holes in the metal of the grille, and the mesh was just held on with zip-ties through those holes.
      But if you don't wanna drill holes, another solution could be to simply glue the mesh the the back of the grill. (With strong glue, like the stuff you use to glue in windows)
      Hope that helps.

    Hello guys. I have a question if i may ask. I have Suzuki Jimny japan version with 660 cc turbo engine f6a engine. I overheated it and want to swap 1.8is bmw engine, i was wondering if you know, will the stock transfer case be able to cope with the engine or what should i put in there ? Thanks in advance

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I have no clue... But, I'm thinking that if you are just going to do normal driving, it will probably be ok, as they seem fairly well built. But if you are gonna do heavy off-roading or some kind of racing. It may not take it so well. But this is all just guessing.
      But i say try it out. If it breaks, you'll have to swap it anyway. And if it doesn't, then no problem.
      Thanks for watching!
      And Good luck with the project

    I know you have already sold this vehicle... But, did you ever install a "Locker"? A Locker would have made this little truck way more capable, even before the engine swap. Great vid!

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there.
      No, we never did put lockers in it.
      As we started using it for competitions, it was certainly in our plans. but a lot of other things came up, that sadly lead to the sale of this little thing. but it would indeed have been a champ with lockers.
      Thanks for watching.

    It looked like the engine compartment could use some paint. Shouldn't you guys have painted it while the motor was out. None-the-less, it may have not needed it. Just a poor view on my computer.

  • @Mn09lfV6f
    @Mn09lfV6f 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Install a 1.3 gas motor, huh. Why? I mean you are doing the work anyway and so many options of engines from VW diesels to larger gas motors such as the 1.6 in other Suzuki vehicles. And yeah I know the differentials won't take a lot of power but still its not the best choice.

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well i agree. It's not the best choice, but main reason was, i already had the 1,3 sitting around. Besides, car regulations here are pretty strict, so swaping a much bigger engiene in, is not legal, nor is it, to swap it with a diesel. And at the time, we did want to keep this street legal.
      Thanks for watching!

    • @Mn09lfV6f
      @Mn09lfV6f 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry if my comment came off harshly. Possession of the motor makes it more sensible to install but I don't think I could justify spending my time on the installation. I've been thinking of the emission for my Samurai (which has the 1.3 and isn't passing California smog) and the fuel injected 1.6 gas motor would be legal. A pre-'97 diesel is exempt from smog so I am strongly considering that. Where is your location and the rules wouldn't let you install a diesel?

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No offence taken. And yes, the small diesels would really allow these little trucks to crawl around, with that low-rpm torque. I think it would be a great option.
      We are located in Denmark, northern Europe. And it is possible to change a petrol engiene for a diesel, but there is a massive amount of rules and regulations on cars, so for these kinds of projects, we'd often get completely bogged in paperwork and extra taxes.
