Traditional cabin air filter media are often electrostatically charged: they are called electret filters. However, when the electrostatic system starts reducing, more contaminants pass through the media. This is especially the case for particles within the critical range for human health, smaller than PM1. MANN+HUMMEL has developed a revolutionary nanofiber media technology using the electrospinning process to achieve ultra-fine filtration and the highest separation efficiency - at any time and any weather. By using simulations and laboratory tests we improve nanofiber coatings for customized applications and combine this technology with other media and materials.
MANN+HUMMEL has successfully used the technology of nanofiber filtration for many years in various applications for the commercial vehicles sector. This nanofiber filter media solution sets new standards for cabin air filters. The nanofiber filter properties are characterized by a verifiably higher separation efficiency. But what is the nanofiber media made of? MANN+HUMMEL developed a hybrid media combining electret-based spunbond and a pure mechanical filtration layer of ultrafine polymer fibers. With this media a separation of PM1 particles up to 95% can be reached according to DIN EN ISO 16890. This technology enables a stable filtration performance and long-term efficiency over the whole filter lifetime. This nanofiber technology can be combined with any cabin air filter media of the MANN+HUMMEL range, significantly improving the air quality in vehicles’ cabins.
