What is the purpose of the gravel in the bottom? Is this just to help maintain good water flow through the resin? My tank is for water softening of truck-mounted carpet cleaner and it never had gravel in the bottom so I'm wondering if I should put some in. I have used it quite a few years as is and am pretty sure it was made this way.
