      @@Shel230 Nah there just is no safety in history "way better" than Troy. Reed and Lott are the 2 that have good arguments of being better but they are objectively not "way better" than Troy in terms of accomplishments and accolades 10/9X pro bowlers and 7/8X all pros compared to Troys 8/6 and he dealt with more injuries and won a DPOY which Lott didn't do.

    Lifetime Bengals fan here. I can’t for the life of me think of a better safety than Polamalu. Absolutely one of the greatest defensive players of all time, and a privilege to watch him play the game.

    NFL players these days should study and film this guy on how to tackle an opponent. In an open field tackle. No one ever got away from him no matter where in the field or what size. He brought you down. He hit and ran like a freight train. Man was a Beast and is a Legend. On and Off the field. Miss watching him play. By the way I’m a Packers fan. Football Fan First. Love the Game. Players like Troy is what is missed in Today’s game. Mad Respect!!!

      If he is trying to tackle you by your legs, he will start twisting his body just before he grabs your legs or ankles and continue to twist holding your legs and twisting you off your feet. See it in the videos.

    Madden said it - when the Steelers D needed to make a play, Troy made it. It’s been hard to watch a Steeler game since he retired knowing that the play we need probably isn’t coming.

      i wouldve agreed with this sentiment for years, our defensive backfield was atrocious for a while in recent memory. But if you dont think we have defensive playmakers after seeing the past season or 2 with TJ and Minkah out there leading the pack its time you actually watch another steelers game.

    He was an intelligent player. He watched lots of films and studied the players especially QBs. He played the game with a lot of passion and is a very humble person. One of the best safeties ever.

      @@eugenesatele9434 none of them dominated Troy lol they avoided wherever he was. Smart but it wasn’t like they were diving Troy up throwing and running his game. Troy also intercepted manning the few times he did attack Troy. Brady would just spread the field and dice our LB in coverage or corners he didn’t throw at Troy so throwing the W-L record is irrelevant. The patriots had the Steelers number all around. They schemed perfect and our coaches didn’t make the proper adjustments.

    The best to ever do it and it’s not even close. Miss watching him play. His sense for the game was 2nd to none. Still to this day, you don’t see anyone making plays like he did. His timing and awareness was incredible. I wish more players aspired to play like him. He probably spent all his free time studying tape and preparing for the next game looking to make that one play to change the game. Nowadays, all these players spend their free time on social media and playing video games/streaming. They care more about their off the field brand than representing the team they play for and the city that worships them.

    Whats really amazing is how many offensive legends he's made plays on. Whether it's picking off Peyton Manning or cutting off CJ2K and Vick to every other type of defensive play there is. He was absolutely dominant and dynamic against the best of the best for so long.

      This is such an astute comment. The compilation showed he had an impact regardless of the situation or the players. Now I know its bc he didn't see players--only the flow of the game. If the QB was gonna throw there then Troy would go there--It doesn't matter at all that its Peyton Manning throwing it.

    I remember that play 6:10 shows how really explosive he was against a prime CJ2K, Polamalu was line up at deep safety at least 30 yards behind the line of scrimmage, and just before the play was snapped he comes rushing down for a tackle for loss. Unreal.

That one, his finger-scoop INT against the Chargers (7:45 - only Steelers game I ever got to watch in person), and his behind-the-back stop after being blocked and spun around (7:08) are probably my three all-time favorite Troy plays.

    Had absolutely no interest in the Steelers, but absolutely loved watching Troy play because it was always all out effort. He never held anything back and could tell his level of intensity and passion for his position was unmatched.

    He isn’t only one of the most athletic players to play the game but also one of the smartest. The way he could read an offense is almost unheard of. All that talent but you never saw him running his mouth or saying a word. Just pure skill and willpower.

    I have Never seen a all rounded Athlete in NFL like Troy. He’s agile,explosive, quick he’s ability to react and catch balls inches if not millimeters of the ground is unbelievable, his ability to read plays I can go on and on this dude is in my opinion the Jordan of NFL that’s just my thoughts 🙏🏽

    He is a Legend! I remember that Super Bowl Steelers vs Seahawks. Troy (Safety) vs Tatupu (Linebacker). Two Samoan against each other. It was a tough Super Bowl game. Troy and Tatupu are like brothers and from same roots❤❤❤

      I often wondered what it would have looked like if the Steelers also had Reed or the Ravens also had Polamalu. Those were already two of the best defenses in football at the time, then put _both_ of the best safeties in the league on one of them? The NFL rules committee would have had to figure something out to restore competitive balance to the league, because they would have owned every offense out there..

      I'm not sure any team will. That combination of humility, instinct, athleticism and football IQ is rare enough, then you have to team it with a D coordinator willing to give him the freedom to act on those instincts. Once in a lifetime.

    Troy P. I call him the magic man because it had to be magic for him to be everywhere he was on the field. Other players want to be him. Other teams feared him. But no one will ever be like him. I feel blessed to have been able to watch the magic. I miss him and always will miss the game without him.

    I have been watching troy polamalu my entire life and he is the greatest player I have ever seen. The passion and work he put into the game of football in truly one of the greatest things in Steelers nation. He wore the black and gold proudly. Just look at the things he accomplished in his years as a Steeler. He was my favorite player of all time. The is nobody that can accomplish what he did as a Steeler. Great accomplishment of being in the football Hall of Fame. Well deserved Troy.

    Ed Reed probably the best deep coverage safety to play the game but man Troy was special in robber coverage or dropping out of the box. His closing speed was unreal. That CJ2K play still sticks out in my mind. On top of that ridiculous closing speed his film study, and instincts were amazing. Dude could impact the game lining deep, in the box, in zone or man. Truly special, sucks injuries slowed him down and because the Steelers had 0 ILB depth he was moved there. Part of the double edge sword of that reckless abandon he played with. Such an amazing player.

    Their has never before or since been a player with such an instinct, athleticism and never-ending drive like Polamalu. He was at 200% every for every play and did things that didn't seem possible, and did them routinely. What an incredible athlete!
